That's why it's different from assault; it's not getting punched in the face, it's someone sticking their dick inside of your body without your permission. It's taking something that's supposed to be romantic/sensual/fun and making it horrifying/painful/humiliating.
Add on top of that that many women then become pregnant with the child of the person who raped them, and it's pretty clear why it's such a horrible act.
tl;dr getting punched in the face isn't going to get you pregnant with some psychopath's baby. Assault is external, rape is internal and external, plus can have long lasting consequences.
