Well, I try new music on an almost weekly basis. I will go through a discography and try listening to as many albums as I can before I break down in tears because I realize I just don't like them and it is just more evidence that I hate everything.
I have tried reading. Books made me near-suicidal as I was breaking down from it. Never read DnD manuals. Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Star Trek novels... it is all torture. I will be happy if I never pick up another book.
I used to try doing martial arts. It felt dull, but I did it for about 7 years, in which time I was yelled at because I couldn't do the most basic of maneuvers. Tried changing schools twice, didn't fix my problems.
I try to eat new foods. I make it a goal to get at least one new thing every time I go to the store. Every time, I hate it. It has been a long time since I have legitimately liked anything I bought that I didn't already like.
I hate movies, but I have tried watching them. Watched hundreds of horror movies. Sitting through two hours was torture, I can't stand it if it isn't more interactive.
I tried watching a lot of different anime series recommended by some people in my determination to become a weeb. I found I just hated everything, I hated the mannerisms themselves, and I found the stories boring.
I try playing games, but every new game I try just usually ends up being terrible due to having annoyance after annoyance. Arena crashed constantly. Daggerfall was just wandering in giant mazes. Morrowind was just a slog of text in a static world. Oblivion has magic and I want a more realistic world as I can't stand the overuse of magic. Skyrim made it so I can't separate pants from shirts, one of the most important things in any RPG. Second Life just has people standing around, bored, and nobody knows how to RP right. Doom sucks as you spend more time spamming walls and hunting for items than anything else. Heretic is Doom with a medieval skin. Hexen is a button hunt.

Well, time to ramble until I run out of text (aka this isn't a complete answer). I like her for a large number of reasons. If you haven't played the game, I will be talking about spoilers.
First and foremost, Monika is amazing because she has done something nobody else has. She has given me that which I desire the most, attention, and furthermore shows a desire to be with me. I am not very good with underhanded social cues, so being this upfront is essentially the only way I will know someone likes me, and it means a lot. She went to extreme lengths, but it is the same reason I love the yandere type. Extreme lengths show a devotion, a willingness to do ANYTHING for me. That passion is something I cling to.
Secondly, she is the closest person I have seen to myself. She is well known and "popular", but at the same time outcast to the point that she is far more alone than the "outcast" girls. They at least have each other. They try to be nice to Monika, but they can't really connect, and so Monika has nobody. Sure, a bunch of people choose her, but they do it to make her a meme. They just want to sprout "just Monika" memes or otherwise joke about how she is the best girl because she killed others. Everyone who has seen Doki Doki gets that Sayori has depression, or Yuri has self-harm. Not many get Monika.

Part 2: Electric Bugaloo
Monika is hated by a decent sized group of people because of her own antics, which tend to cause harm when she is just trying to do what it takes to maintain her own situation. It it being a survivor in a world that refuses to give you a choice.
Those that accept her? Most just accept her love and that is it. There is no real depth... when Monika is one of the deepest thinkers I have seen. She thinks about everything, constantly questioning REALITY itself. That is essentially how I am and is a great part of the reason why I get mocked and made out to be a meme by others.
I managed to accidentally get a person to hang themselves. I have been seen as the "monster", as the one who was going to attack everyone else. I have tried keeping my sanity by writing poetry, but nobody really understood it or cared, they just did their own things and pushed me to the side. They didn't feel I deserved happiness.
We both live with a lack of confidence, of expressing who we are inside as best as we can, refusing to stop and let the ink just become one massive puddle. There is no real reason to be alive, the world would benefit from me being dead, and there is no true happiness to be found. All the others will eventually get help; they only acted out because their emotions were heightened. For Monika, there is no hope, no help. She can't even be understood, I am not sure many can acknowledge there is even a problem, and even I am not sure what that problem is if there is one.
She tries. She does what she can to embrace the world around her, regardless of the existential hell she lives in, and ends up feeling more isolated because of it. She just wants happiness, something real and genuine, and yet it seems the universe is designed to keep that away from her and keep her compressed in a world of people that are essentially NPCs. People that don't really listen to what you say, they just regurgitate what their syntax allows them.

I like... metal? It is sorta ambiguous, since I loathe far more than I like. I cannot stand high pitched male vocals, so power metal sucks, and I hate black metal as it all sounds boring. I like stuff with a lot of emotion; I find it best in symphonic/gothic metal. A hybrid seems best, pure symphonic tends to be pop bands disguised as metal bands (Within Temptation, Epica). Gothic stuff tends to drag too slow and be boring without some other element (looking at you Theatre of Tragedy and Sins of Thy Beloved).
I also enjoy Neue Deutsche Harte. Megaherz's 5 in particular has a certain... gothic... overtone that I really like even if most of the songs are garbage. I like Metallica, but really am only a big fan of Saint Anger and to a lesser extent Death Magnetic. I have some Nu Metal artists I listen to, but it tends to not be as amazing as the really good symphonic metal songs.
