I'm an atheist aka someone who doesn't believe what people say about god as they have not provided me any valid reason to do so. I don't have moral compass. I have ability to reason instead. Morality just follows from reason. I could murder every living thing on this planet but there really isn't any reason. So why do something that has no point and does waste my time? Also it would be counter productive as I kind of need the people. If I would kill everyone I just dislike then it would turn world into place where people would try to kill me as well. That doesn't sound very good idea either. So not killing anyone and hoping other people agree is the best course of action for my safety. Same goes for stealing, if I respect other peoples property, maybe they do same for me. It's much easier not to steal than trying to protect the property.
