Keep sorties to a moderation. Alternatively sortie to worlds with no whirlpools with girls that don't get too hungry after a mission.
I also recommend you to do expedition five (5) and nine (9). They yield above-average fuel. I doubt you have access to 21 or 38 yet, but those are also great, the latter being the best in the game.
