o anyone who is against citizens owning "assault weapons"
The 2nd amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
The purpose of this was to give the People the power to stand up against the government in case the government turned tyrannical and threatened the People's freedom.
What is the point of the 2nd amendment at all if the People do not have arms somewhat equal to the potential evil government's soldiers that they would be fighting against? I'm pretty sure the founding fathers wouldn't want the People committing suicide missions by trying to fight high capacity medium to long range weapons with low capacity short range weapons. To restrict access to certain arms because they make you uncomfortable would limit the effectiveness of a well regulated militia, and that seems counter to the Constitution to me.

But the government no longer needs weapons to become tyrannical. The government is never going to round people up and put them into camps or kill them because they need your tax money so they can keep fighting wars that feed the military industrial complex so they in turn become rich.
