1 is correct.

>>769147345
for those that say 9, implied mult/div happens before explicit.
>>
>>769147229

Depends on the way you do the division and multiplication.

Brakets first is 3, same both ways. then if you do 6 / 2 * 3 doing the divide first it's 9. doing the multiplication first it's 1.

Conventionally, it's left to right.

You are incorrect. When the multiplication in is implied(numeral is adjacent to parenthesis, there is no multiplication symbol), it will happen before any explicit function (when the operand is present), in this case the division.

Any rewriting of the equation like changing the 6/2 or adding the multiplication sign alters the function.

You try arguing syntax with a doctorate professor.

When dealing with something a little more complicated, very clear notation is required.

The fact that there is argument about the answer is evidence enough.

This is nothing more than an attempt to show superior knowledge. Akin to criticizing someone’s grammar.

Found your error. ÷ and × are the same class of operation. Multiplication indicated via adjacency is not in the same operator class. You should have learned this in grade school. Had OP used the equation 6÷2×(2+1) your answer would have been correct.

Point to me where this rule is written, it has never been a thing. At best you can point to the rule that everything left of a ÷ has to be divided by everything after it, but this hasn't been a rule since 1917. Unless you're ~105 years old you have no excuse.
>>
>>769152020
You can't just distribute whatever you want to, there's an order of operations. If you really want to distribute, you'd have to consider that your 'b' value is 6/2.

Its actually P E MD AS
Multiplication and division have the same value, as well as addition and subtraction.
So 6/2(3) is the same as 6/2*3
6/2*3 is read left to right because they all have the same value.

if you were to write it out fractional form instead of using the retarded divison symbol it would be more clear as to what is multiplied and what is divided
