The how to treat people part... I just never had any self esteem as a kid (fuck, now). Middle child, weird birthday so I was maybe a little young to be starting out in school as a kid, health issues that kept me from socializing in elementary, etc. Got used to being treated coldly, and saw enough fake niceness that I started to suspect all forms of niceness towards me were fake. It was impossible for me to tell when people liked me because my base assumption was that they didn't and were just tolerating me. When I lost my puberty weight in middle school I had a lot of attention out of nowhere and I brushed it all off. I hurt a fair amount of girls that didn't deserve it, and though my intentions weren't malicious I must have seemed like a total cunt. I only really realized it and reflected on it after a fling with a friend from home during freshman year of college. Of course people didn't assume I was just a fucked up kid, why would they.
