Here are the two main contributions to broken kids/people in western society:
1. Aside from poor parenting, there is a general lack of both the promotion of self awareness (the tool by which people with poor backgrounds can escape the cycle) coupled with the tools and outlets needed to assess and deal with any problems that might arise from said awareness. Note that this isnt a call for more therapy, although therapy does have its benefits.
2. The minimizing of useless cynicism. There are generally 2 kinds of cynicism. The kind borne from wisdom and the kind borne from insecurities, general lack of perspective as well as other things. We can see this reflected in things all around us from the obsession with social media among youth to even here in this very thread, where people think government endorsed culling and forced limits on breeding would be a viable solution.
Of course, it's a bit bigger of an issue than these 2 points illustrate. But these are very human problems that require human solutions. Not things to be effected by the state. Which by definition; can only account for 1 to a few nuances of mass psychological issues. And this is a huge issue. Obviously.

Those assholes picking these kids more often than not have their own shit going on in their home lives which leads them to act the way they do to others because it gains them some degree of control and acceptance where they aren't at home.

I guess I don't know what my point to all this is. Schools need to stop giving the impression to kids that this small chapter of their lives isn't the most important/crutial thing they are ever going to do
They need to start telling people life isn't concrete and it's fucking confusing and every five years you will look back at yourself now and marvel how dumb or wrong you were about certain things.
Above all else they need to somehow get it into kids heads that everyone is in this shit together and making life worse for others doesn't do shit for anyone.

Everyone wants to take the easy road to judging people because frankly, our parents and grandparents were generations that were learning to break that. It's evident across all three and in generations behind tradition is far more strict and respected. In our grandparents (as me, being a 1990 baby, at least) and especially our parents we see the attempts to break past social mores and conventions.
And then, somewhere, we regressed. Went backwards. Decided it was time to undo all the things they'd done. It wasn't "losing is bad" with our grandparents, it was "losing is a reason to become better." It wasn't "losing means you're a failure," it was "losing means you should reassess your strengths and weaknesses." They had sensible answers that were short, succinct, but made a lot of sense and spoke to a lot of types.
I understand fully there will be outliers who just want to watch the world burn, but damn, I didn't think it'd end up like this.
It's OUR job. "Average people" have got to stop thinking "I don't have anything to do with this." Anytime you let something slide; anytime you just sort of grumble and walk off.

It used to be normal, okay to be bored. To have a moment without personal stimuli. You'd have to do something, go ride a bike, go make some trouble, go do something. The behavior of just sitting there, hour after hour after hour used to be an aberration, something that nobody in their right mind would do. Now that you can have fake interactions (like this) in your pocket constantly, you become more isolated.

I definitely agree that the difference between 13 and 27 is a huge mental change, but really when you think about it, you are the same person you where at 13 as you are now at 27, you just have way more life experience.
