It's a basic and utilitarian civilian plane, nothing wrong with that. It's also the most manufactured plane in aviation, and people modify them for STOL landing and plenty of other things. It's beautiful for it's simplicity.

Passengerfag here. I do not like flying. What do you mean?
Actually, just days ago I read about the 'deathspiral' where an aircraft banks in one direction or the other and turn until it stalls. If the pilots don't know how to use instruments, their inner ear may fool them into thinking they've corrected, when they haven't. Naturally, this occurs most at night.
>>769081863
I'm used to it!
The planes are really well maintained which is impressive given the very limited downtime (we parked it at about 00:30 and it will most likely be off again by 06:00 or 07:00. There is usually a lot of minor defects in the cabin (broken trim etc) but mechanically they are all sound which makes my life so much easier. We rarely dispatch with a significant defect. Today when we powered it up though, it did say it had a fault on the Flight Recorder but simply turning it off and turning it back on again cleared it. That is the usual issues we have, it is just a computer problem which requires a reset. In 5 years, I've cancelled a flight once due to a technical defect.
>>769081994
Airbus FTW. For the job I do, which is usually short sectors, busy days, it is an excellent machine. Plus we have a table to eat dinner off.
>>769082002
By 'behaved itself all day' means we had no issues that cause any minor grief. For example. last technical issue I dealt with was that the toilet waste quantity indicator wasn't working. Just a small issue but that involves engineers, paperwork and a little hassle. Flying wise, there are never really any defects or issues that cause us any grief, it's just minor annoyances. For that example, normally we'd go the whole day without getting the toilet waste removed, with that defect, it meant we needed to delay the departure each flight whilst we waited for the toilet waste tank to be emptied.
>>769082002
Whilst the instrument thing might be an issue for an inexperienced pilot, I have flown 99% of my carer on instruments alone so if I'm honest, I'm probably better at flying that then flying visually so it isn't really an issue. If you're confused, you just ignore what you feel and don't look out the window and just keeps your eyes on the instruments and interpret accordingly.
if it aint Airbus I aint going.
Airbus A340
Even though it's not a very pretty aircraft to look at, I always thought it was pretty cool that a jet plane could land like a helicopter.

Well, planes with humans in them suck. To have to build all the life support systems of the pilot inside the plane is just extra weight, and then you have to build it so slow in speed and handling so it doesn't kill your pilot, manned aircraft just can't compete.
It's like, yeah, ok, a little electric car piloted by a hamster you wired into it is kind of interesting, but if you take the hamster out and build it as top performing RC car, you'll have a lot more fun flying that, with all the speed and capabilities your design can handle.
