Not OP, but I too love Donnie Darko (and most mind-fuck movies). Its ambitious, complex & layered, comedic yet poignant, and it captures a certain early 2000s suburban nostalgia that only makes sense if you experienced it yourself. Not to mention, young Jenna Malone with sad eyes gives me a formidable erection.

as the mpc-hc poster itt, I have to agree. It's not a great movie. There's almost nothing visually striking about it. The music is meh. The plot doesn't really make much sense. It's a film about teenage angst. The relationships and character development aren't that great: mostly flat progression all around. Overall I didn't like the movie. It has a few novel ideas with time travel but that's it.

Nymphomaniac was incredibly boring and a flaccid attempt (yet again) of her riding her fathers coattails.
The entire point of the movies was to challenge peoples sexual norms and make them uncomfortable... In the 21. century.
Movies (or art in general) that are still provocative for the sake of being are almost insulting, nowadays.
Shame wasn't particularly good, but it still outshines this piece of shit by showing us a genuinely unknown side of sexuality and not being pretentious enough to do any kind of social commentary.
I swear, the French have to get over this Gainsbourg shit.

This film comes up often in these kinds of threads, but I don't think it's a masterpiece. Something about it wasn't quite right for me. It has novel sci-fi ideas, and it's a great audio-visual experience. One quality of the film that irks me is the interaction between himself(s). He seems like a very short-sighted person, but maybe that's why the corporation chose him.
