I would add on to this to avoid Sigs. Their pretty guns but the metal framed ones like the P226 have aluminum rails that the slide runs on and they require special care with grease to keep them from being excessively worn down (they're not replaceable) and Sig's plastic framed guns have been lackluster with safety issues. If you want a fancy handgun for your one and only, and something like a Glock or S&W won't cut it, then consider Walther or HK

I always recommend a pistol for home defense since you can hold it in one hand while using a phone in the other. Otherwise, an AR15 since the round will destabilize while going through walls which makes it relatively safe for your neighbors.

.223 and 5.56 are visually identical. Same case, same bullet (.224), but the difference comes from how they are loaded.
5.56 are loaded "hotter" than .223. they have higher combustion pressures than the .223. This becomes especially apparent when firing multiple 5.56 through a .223 as the manufacturing process for 5.56 barrels are different than .223.
Over time, 5.56 will damage a weapon chambered for .223. Unless you have a weapon chambered to .223 Wylde.
