the reason i quit after my level 65 attempt was because i had other things on my mind and didn't want to keep paying for a subscription

Yea, should have gone for multiplayer stuff, that's what MMOs are for, even though WoW is huge in itself and some people have the most exotic purposes of playing it (like some faggits that don't care about achievements, raiding or arena but play wow for the sole purpose of dominating AH).
Back then, yes, you could have burden, but they could just kick you or be nice and understanding and explain you how to improve whenever they spot a big mistake.
Right now the game is so easy you'd have to be quite the retard to burden anyone in a low level instance. Like, if a tank knows what he is doing he can actually have 100% of the damage done to all trash NPCs up to first boss simply because he one shots them before DPS are able to do anything.
About the money... it's my opinion that blizzard are legal thieves and very smart ones, but I'm just a salty wotlk lover who wish they didn't release any new content for the past 8 years so don't take too much of my biased opinion in consideration.

It's just a side effect from the game being old and reworked so much. For example, some boss mechanics were designed around the skills a class had 5 years ago, but right now that class works in a completely different way.
Low level content has been made easier and easier and easier so that's where the tank issue comes from.
You can always play on garbage pservers, right now I'm barely pouring any time into them due to girls frontline but for basically the past decade I've been playing on and off in wotlk pservers, which is the final state of the game before old world and it's questchains get remade. It's also free.

On legion, everything is about mobility compared to how much of it existed back then.
Can't really comment on hpallies right now, only thing I played in legion was hunter and druid.
In wrath, hpally is one of the easiest specs to learn both for pve and pvp. It actually fits the description of what you want, they are the ones with fat heals on demand and have plenty of cooldowns that can save raids if used well, meaning low skill floor yet high skill cap.
