Also fluoride naturally occurs in groundwater, people noticed that people in certain areas had lower incidences of dental cavities and also stained teeth,and they found out it was because of fluoride. They tweaked the levels and found that you can get the benefits to teeth without the staining and they started equalizing the level in the public supply, and it lowered cavity rates. It isn't harmful at the levels in the US water supply, and it is proven effective, especially among the poor, and as such is a huge cost-saving to the tax base. It's really, really all good stuff.

Fluoride is the main ingredient in rat poisoning. There's been a campaign to convince people that fluoride is good. And good to put it in drinking water instead of vitamins and minerals? Fluoride should not be consumed, a lot of people say well in the small amount that people drink. How about asking why is it in there in the first place and why does anyone need to drink it.

Fluoride only works on the surface of teeth -- it literally remineralizes them, they absorb the fluoride and it makes them stronger. That being said, you get all the fluoride you need from brushing your teeth.
Why should the government:
1) tax us, buy fluoride
2) put fluoride in all water, making it unavoidable.
3) expose babies, sick people. etc. to fluoride unecessarily.

Fluoride is a byproduct of Coal Mining.
It would be extremely expensive to remove as a hazardous material.
Fortunately coal mine owners did a study on the benefits of fluoride and instead of having to pay to get it removed, they sell it to the government for a nice profit.
