I got in a wreck over the weekend and need to buy a new car.
I'm considering any '05 - '09 Mustang, mostly because I like how the front looks more muscle-y than your average sedan or sports car.
Thoughts? I've only ever drove shit-cars before and haven't driven much else.

idk what other anon is talking about. i've had great reliability with my mustangs. i like the 09 because it's an anniversary edition with different badges. never needed to take it to the mechanic and runs great, no leaks, no engine or transmission issues. regular maintenance and new tires is all i ever put on it, well actually i did change the grill out and had them do the wiring for that (led fog lights).
they're a great value as far as price and availability, the v6 isn't bad at all, the v8 is fun as fuck with lots of power.

For 6K, whatever you get is probably going to need a little bit of work. It might be as easy as new tires; it might be more. You can spend 6K, minus what repairs it needs. (For 4 tires, spend maybe $5600-5700 on the car, so you've got $300-$400 left for new tires.)
Boring, but reliable: Corolla/Camry, Civic/Accord. Honda had a run of bad automatic transmissions in about the late 1990s, so go read up on that before shopping.
If you have to buy American: Impala/Malibu or the equivalents from other GM divisions. Not as reliable as the same year Toyota or Honda, but parts and mechanics are cheap and plentiful. Try to avoid 2008-2010 or so GM stuff; going through bankruptcy shook their tenuous grasp on how to build cars.
Avoid: European anything (parts are expensive, mechanics that understand them are expensive). Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram anything (Chrysler is so fucked that not even the Germans could unfuck them.)

I drive a challenger and it's heavy and big as fuck and never meant for a track. It gets terrible gas mileage I even had to pay an extra grand for a gas guzzler tax. But idgaf I'm an adult I have no kids and I wanted a muscle car. If you want to be responsible go with a charger or camaro. Both are equally expensive and expensive to repair. Neither is easier to work on than the other and both will get you about the same amount of attention. Just get a v8 and be happy

Ranger rusted out and the Colorado's repairs were worth more than the truck itself.
Just picked up a CPO 15' Caddy ATS with 38,000 KMs on the Odom, still under a year and a half warranty. Starting price was 19,500 Leaf bucks. Chose the base model, because it's much cheaper and way less shit to go wrong.
Maybe OP should look into financing a car. I know the ATS is a bad example sine it's a luxury brand and depreciation is high, but at least it's a car under warranty most of the time.

Look up the chrysler/Mercedes lx platform reliability rating. It's the same chassis used for the 300, magnum, charger, challenger etc. Easy as shit to repair cheap parts cause millions of them. And other than the airbag recall mine has been flawless. Same with my jeep wrangler. Both are 15's and both has the airbag issue but that was the supplier

Anyways i highly suggest the GT Premium version (leather seats, upgraded dash and shaker 500 sound) for 2005 - 2010. The premium looks a hell of a lot better interior wise to the deluxe or base. Also the 2010 is a different generation (2010 - 2014) with the same engines as the 05 -09 but looks better imho and it might be more expensive.
As far as engines go, avoid the v6 in the 05 - 10. Its absolute dogshit and lacks power. I honestly think the 99 - 04 3.8 / 3.9 pushrod v6 engines were much better. The 3v 4.6 is ok with 315 hp not great though you have a massive aftermarket for it. You can easily get to 400 rwhp naturally aspirated if you dont mind getting your hands dirty. If you go 2011 - present, the v6 versions have 305 HP, thats 10 below the previous year, though the v8 is more fun since you got all that extra torque and the sound is unbeatable. But i suggest if you can, get a 5.0 (2011 - Present). That engine is a MASSIVE difference over everything before it apart from the Shelbys.
Also if you can help it get a stick shift, autos are a bit too sluggish until you get to the 2011 + present mustangs.
And there are a fuckton of forums and aftermarket websites for mustangs. Example: Americanmuscle, CJPonyparts, Latemodelresto etc

They're cheap as fuck to buy , and easy to maintain. The parts are cheap because they're literally everywhere. I've had a Police Interceptor for almost 3 years and It's been a solid reliable daily driver. Plus you still get the 4.6, granted its a 2 valve and not a 3 valve like the mustang.

I've only ever known women who drove mustangs, and though Ford makes some good vehicles the mustang isn't one. They fall apart. Thats all my sisters want to drive and every one has been a POS with the exception of one old '98 stang.
Those "affordable" sports cars like the mustang and challenger are built like shit. They look good but they dont last.
Personally I'd look for a non lifted non modded 98-06 Jeep Wrangler. I've had mine since 05 and kept it stock and its never let me down. Or an old Cherokee. Ford/Dodge/Chevy trucks and SUVs are decently reliable if you want american.
