MySQL was pretty similar to what i was learning.
our class taught us Microsoft's take on SQL through Microsoft access. combine the somewhat unfamiliar syntax of SQL, and the absolute god awful abomination that is the SQL editor in MS access, and you get what i had coined at the time as SQL hell.
