I was a Cub Scout in the early 90s. Made it to Bear Scout. Fell off after that joined a band and life went on.
Never realized how sad I'd be to see that all go down the drain. When I have a son I'd have had him go into the scouts in a heartbeat. I had a hell of a lot of fun, those traditions stayed with me maybe more than I thought and I'm a better person for it.

I finished my project in september of 2017. Went to basic training, graduated basic. Came home on leave in december to have my board of review and go to one last troop meeting to say hi to the younger kids. As a fellow Eagle Scout I am deeply saddened yes; exclusion of genders are imperative. I learned a lot of useful things in the Boy Scouts, for sure. I was lucky to have a chill troop. Plenty of camping trips, not super strict, minimal focus on grinding merit badges. Even got to go to Philmont twice. I'm proud to be an Eagle scout, and I hope the organization is back to how it was 10 years ago by the time I have kids of my own.

Fellow Eagle here ('08) and I'm a bit upset about this all. I remember getting my Eagle and feeling like it wasn't that hard to achieve back then, like it was already on the decline. This is just next level. I really hope some of the old scouters that guided me are dead, because it's such disrespect for the organization that they believed in. There is a war on young men, and we lost a great asset to it.

What really pisses me off about this is that it's clearly a cash grab because scouting numbers are down but they're acting all high and mighty pretedning to be "inclusive". Scouting was going downhill long before this though, even back then they didn't care about turning boys to men and just cared about their prophits. I saw this first hand when I used to work at a scout camp as a merrit badge counselor, they took a beautiful camp and took away everything that made it rustic and tried to "modernize" it and make it more convenient. I made it to First Class Scout. I was in a dedicated troupe in Virginia and learned solid woodcraft and nature skills. My family then moved to Illinois, and eventually joined the most perverted and fucked up Scout troupe in the history of Scouting.

This is something that the Girl Scout leadership should have addressed decades ago. There is no reason why they couldn't. A Boy Scout troop is as good as its leadership. The work of the leaders and the support of the parents of the boys in the troop are what makes things happen.
The problem is that boys need a place to be boys, and that is becoming harder and harder. I don't know if you understand the male mind at all, but there are things it needs to be healthy, and these things are being fenced off and destroyed.
A lot of people will talk about how so many school shooters are men, and how men are prone to violence and hate women, etc. The destruction of male spaces is actually driving a lot of these maladaptive behaviors.

I grew up Mormon and was forced through the scouting program all the way to eagle and hated every second of it.
In my eagle board of review they asked me if I ever saw myself as a future leader in scouting. I never thought about it previously but as soon as they asked it I knew the answer was no so I told them that I wasn't interested in being a leader in scouting and that I wasn't really a fan of scouting in general. I stepped out for them to make their decision and they asked to speak with my scout master. They decided to let me have my eagle.
I later found out that the board wasn't going to give me the rank of eagle and that my scout master 100% vouched for me and convinced them to give it to me. Though I never found that out until I had already dropped scouting completely and left the church. I heard that my scout master regretted vouching for me.

2011 Eagle here. At first thought, I realized most people might not care or approve of this because it's all in the name of diversity and sexual equality. Hooray for progressiveness I guess. But then, as usual, these "progressives" don't think about the consequences of changing things. They just want to change for the sake of change.
Boy Scouts has always been about getting away from pressures that would normally be existent in co-ed environments. Having a boy-only environment is VASTLY different from one that has boys and girls. The BSA was the last place a guy could actually experience that. And if you didn't want to have that, there has always been Venture.
So yes, I think this is essentially ruining what actually made Boy Scouts great for boys in the first place, and it won't ever be the same. I don't doubt it will be a great place for the girls considering how absolute dogshit the Girl Scouts are, but the boys are getting screwed out of an experience they can never get elsewhere.

At summer camp I met a troop or two that had one or two girls in them. But these girls fucking camped, they earned their damned badges. They actually worked. They were rare exceptions. I thought this was fair.
Now what we're left with is a bunch of dumb bitches complaining their phone doesn't get wifi while the guys set up the tents. Next thing you know, merit badge standards will be lowered just like military physicals so they can "catch up." The girls that join will either A) Earn their fucking badges, get their bug bites, hike their gear to camp, and be required to succeed on the already fairly easy physical requirements for silver border badges; or B) drop out or be miserable until they do if they can't hack it, just like a number of male scouts in my troop did. I'm not down with bending over for the "progressive" agenda, but as long as they have separate tents and badge requirements aren't adjusted to meet the lowest common denominator, then let's filter out the slackers from both genders and let the worthwhile succeed. I was like 15 and I think there were minimum times you had to be a certain rank, (6 or 9 months) as life, star, etc. before you could move up.
