You dont want to keep it wet all day unless you want fucking trenchfoot. OP there is bad advice here. An epsom salt and or iodine soak a few times a day and you're going to have to cut the nail out of your foot on the edges of the nail where its growing into your toe. I get ingrown toenails and I just make sure to pry them out of the skin every week or two and trim them. It doesn't hurt that bad and after a while it stops hurting at all.
You will most likely have to be seen by a doctor for that, its going to be too painful for you to do anything like work until it grows out on its own. Suck it up and go to the er, they'll fix you up and if you dont have insurance theres a good chance you can fill out the charity form and get a good reduction on the cost.
You need to learn how to trim your nails so that doesn't happen. And you're probably wearing the wrong shoes.

Had these at least 12 times in my life, only thing that works is keeping it in a wet sock for a day or two. Dry nails curve but straighten when they get wet. Keeping the whole area damp for days gives the nail a chance to straighten then grow out some so it won't curve back in.

That's what my uncle always does. Washes area thruoughly, soaks the foot in hot salt water for about an hour, then covers everything with iodine and rips the ingrown part of the toenail out. Then keeps that part of the nail clamped straight inside pliers until it dries (straight).

Looks like the first few days of a localised infection.
Swelling, inflammation, likely pain.
Local doctor can sort it out quickly, clean it up and put some antibacterial cream on it, might need minor surgery with local anesthetic.
Sooner you do it, the less that will need skiing to fix it.
Go to the doc, have them take care of it. When treated it will heal for the most part within a few days.
Left untreated it can cause tissue damage, loss of toe, or a blood infection.

Seriously guys, I've had a badly infected ingrown toenails before. There would be puss coming out when he squeezed it. There is no puss ooze visible.
Now he should go get it dealt with. Dr. doesn't have to permanently remove half of the nail, about 1/8 of the nail will do it, with the nail bed scraped to kill it on the section that was removed.
P.S. if it really was badly infected, they can't numb you enough to keep it from hurting badly when they remove it. 11 shots in each foot, starting with toe, the middle of foot, then back by the back to numb the entire foot, still didn't do it. Then you gotta suck it up, and they do it a little at a time, let the pain go down, and then do some more. By the time they are done, they gotta put a blanket over you and treat you for shock.

Mine were oozing so bad, that the socks would be stuck to the toes in that area, and had to rip the socks off, which hurt like hell.
Save yourself a bunch of money, boil some water and sterilize some cutting tools clippers, scissors, knife and some pliers and do it yourself, disconnect from the pain, once that fucker is out that is digging in it'll feel fine. Clean it and pack it with salt and wrap it up. Air it out after a day or two.
