Imported gaming goods were located in the back of gaming magazines and cost a fucking fortune to ship over, £80+ for a flask.
Gaming cheats and hints had its own hotline where you could call and charge your parents phone bill up the ass.
Big, bulky heavy as fuck TVs.
Transexuals looked like men.
The lack of smart phones meant that people HAD to communicate.
Playing DOS games with bleeps if you lacked a sound card.
>>

yesss and pam anderson was still hot back then, but as an ass man i enjoyed jenna von oy and j lo even more so

You couldnt be tracked or reached as easily.
You would carry around change, so you could make a call on a public phone later.
TV ruled popular culture more than at any point. By then music had been entirely changed to be sold through television.
People were still being educated on throwing trash everywhere. You have no idea how bad shit was and how acceptable it was to litter, the 90's was when a lot of initiatives to educate started seeing results.
You would listen to the radio.
The internet was for nerds and honestly was pretty useless except for conversation.
Arcades were still a thing. Big place where any adult would stand out, a children's casino. A gaming legend used to be a local phenomenon backed up only by a high score in the machine.
Weed really wasn't as strong.

> when you visited your friend you left your bike out in the front yard. 3 hours later when you left to go home your bike was still there
> arranging to meet your friend at the mall meant making plans possibly days beforehand and sticking with them. If one of you didn't turn up you had to wait til school on Monday to find out where they were

Man the current generation just "leaves it alone." During my high school, if my friend group was getting into a fight, we were all down to back him even if we knew we couldn't fight for shit.

It's interesting to see how these generations change.

Speak for yourself with cooking shows. Ready, steady, cook! was really popular in the UK. Ainsley is even a goddamn meme. We also had supermarket sweep.

Quiz shows and games of chance were super popular too. Price is right, higher or lower, countdown, who wants to be a millionaire, catchphrase, wheel of fortune.

Hypercolor shirts were big for a minute, but quickly died once people realized it just changed color where you sweat
Jams were all the rage
Every cool kid had to have his hair like John Connor from Terminator 2, usually paired with a denim jacket and plastic sunglasses
Every restaurant was filled with smoke.
There weren't theft scanners at every door, cameras were rare. Shoplifting was much easier.
Airbags were optional & every car came with cigarette lighters and tape decks.

Although rare, it was still possible to get to age 15 and have no idea what a vagina looked like. Porn supply was hit and miss, until '96 most people had never been online, and no girl ever dreamed of showing you a pic of her cunt. The thought would never have crossed her mind to take a picture of her pussy.

Literally no undesirable immigrants outside of cities. You can't imagine how good that was.

It was awesome. Last decade where kids stayed out late without fear of being kidnapped or murdered by the police. I remember having long summers filled with all sorts of adventures. I spent about half my time playing outside in nature and half my time playing SNES, N64, and later the Playstation in the mid-late 90s. I used to take walks in the forests, swim and camp at lakes, pan for gold in a stream down the road and at the bottom of a gulley. I mean, I could go on and on. I have a lot of fond memories of the 90s.

>>768751302
Net neutrality wasn't a big deal because internet didn't threaten the cable TV industry.
>>
>>768750971
This is very true.

I think the 90s can be summed up as this transition period from sort of an older analog era where people still played outside and much technology was still very user focused (less automized, VHS players, cartridges, cassette tapes, etc.).

I remember a lot of my youth playing outside. There was a meadow behind my house that my sister and my friends used to sneak into and play in this abandoned house. No one gave a shit and we'd be out all night basically trespassing but it was all in good fun. Coming home on a warm summer night, watch the Lion King or some Disney movie. Having to rewind it. Going to birthday parties at Discovery Zone.

Good times.

you're reading the context wrong there buddy, I meant from the 90's til now what big corporations did to tv by making it overly filled advertizments til it got to the terrible point it's at now, give it 10 years and the big isp's will ruin the internet the same way, it will cost a lot more and they'll make it filled with nearly unavoidable ads.

"Net Neutrality" was a solution for a problem that didn't exist...

Further, which nobody likes to talk about, is that nestled inside that law was a bunch of internal monitoring laws, giving the NSA/FBI/CIA/etc. more power to e-spy on American citizens.

It's a good thing it's gone, trust me...

Actually, school shootings have been happening since Charles Whitman in the 60's...

And even further back, there was a dynamite attack on a school in Bath, MI in the 1920's... Schools have always been a target, anon; many innocents congregate there, so it's a great target for a psychopath looking to gain recognition... Even better now that they're all defenseless target-rich havens...

For me, the 90s was this.
Started playing in ‘89, eventually opened a field in ‘95.
If I wasn’t playing paintball, I was running the field. Once we got big enough, and respected enough, and I had a great staff of workers I could trust, we (my team) started playing across the nation thanks to the field’s income.
Great fucking times. I wish the sport hadn’t really died out in my area when the economy crashed in 2005-2006, I closed the field some years after that, but I miss the game a lot.
Maybe I’ll open an airsoft field when I get tired of working for other people again.

It was awesome, OP !

The President had a brain! You might disagree with what he was doing, but he wasn't doing completely stupid shit and reversing his promises all the time!

It was possible to discuss politics with other Americans and not have them shut you down and insult you immediately. They didn't see politics as a team sport !

Microsoft were exposed as losers - they almost missed the boat on browsers and on Java. We came to understand that mere mortals could take them on and win !

Computers had several MEGA bytes of memory !

Music had soul again
Taco bell still tasted good
The internet had dial up or you connected to a BBS to talk to people
Windows 95 actually worked and people liked it
TV was magical and you would talk about it the next day at work
Trump was still an idiot but you didnt worry that people listened to him
Pogs were like spinners but didn't do anything
Video games could be played at home with arcade graphics
Girls would make out with each other and called it "a phase"
You had a two-way pagers which could send text messages
Book stores still existed and you could get coffee for under $1
You had to wear a tie for just every job
After work you would meet up with friends and talk to each other, in person
Vegas was trying to change into something family friendly
The movies were better, you would wait in line for tickets
Roadtrips were a thing and girls wanted to come with you on them.
The federal reserve was still corrupt, there was no bitcoin
You had to get a newspaper or booklet to look for a job or buy a used car

Cartoon channels actually showed a variety of cartoons instead of the same 3 shows all day, and none of that live action bullshit. Oh and mtv still actually played music. A ton of new video games created the base for a lot of now common genres. The internet was great for the time but dogshit compared to today. You could let your kids play throughout the neighborhood without fear of them getting kidnapped as long as you lived in a decent neighborhood. No sjw bullshit, or at least it wasn’t widespread and what little there was got ignored by most everyone. Muslims generally stayed in their own shit countries.

We thought a "snuff video" was a secret, degenerate thing. We couldn't imagine watching people DIE for entertainment !

Then, of course, the war came along, and the military put their targeting camera clips on the news, and suddenly, without any discussion, we were all watching people die for our entertainment.

Not that guy... but in the late 90s, if you were teenage didn't have at least one pair of JNCOs (or maybe the off brand baggy shit if you were a poorfag), you must have been supreme nerd. By the end of the 90s, literally everyone was wearing them. It's like skinny legs, even in the generation they came from might only have a 50% adoption rate, JNCOs were worn by literally 95% of us. But most of us didn't wear the crazy *2 pentecostal skirts sewn together * sizes. Most of us were like 30 inch legs, which were still huge, but not like the 100 inch ones or the trip pants.

Pardon the rose colored glasses but...

The 90s were time of fierce optimism and looking forward to the future. This air of gloom, doom, depression; of a failing nation mired in debt with no end to war didn't exist. That came post 9/11

The 90s were like a slightly tamer 70s. There was a lot of exuberance and partying. Rock music was still the dominant music force rather than rap and all pop music was rock based. Music was epic. But I consider the 90s to be the dying gasps of rock music. Post 2000 it's became emasculated pop punk and emo shit, rock music got castrated and rap music or rap based pop dominates the radio/tv.

TVs were much more primitive and so were video games, but they were much better. I'll still maintain that the SNES was the greatest video game console ever.

There was a lot of youthful drinking, partying, and sex. And it astounds me how young guys just don't have sex anymore. There was a lot of pot and drinking but pot was *much* weaker. Mexican brick was the norm unless if you knew a guy who had a dope hookup and then you were paying through the roof for Chronic, which was the strongest shit at the time, but still only high mids compared to modern smoke strains.

We were a more colorful people, figuratively and literally. Look at Clarissa and Sam in OP's pic ffs. Bright colors were a thing, and more ostentatious personalities. Though by the mid 90s there was a major style shift and grunge based outfits, baggy jeans, and gothic shit became huge (though goths existed since the 80s, Marilyn Manson made that scene huge in the 90s).

We were the last generation of kids that mostly played outside.

The porn was rare and hard to come by. Me and my bro would steel magazines and videos from stores and sell them at enormous markup to our middle schools and highschools. Since most didn't have the internet, porn was more valuable than gold to a teenage male (we'd watch the scrambled channel for a chance at seeing nipple).

Simpler times, not just because i'm older but because you could walk into a game store, buy the first thing that took your attention and enjoy it even if it was shit.
Kids played outside and the only phones they had were walkie-talkies, we'd entertain ourselves mixing together household liquids and calling them "potions", we'd put on parades in the street because fuck it, why not?
Only the rich kids had Sky so the rest of us just made do with what we had and enjoyed ourselves.
We could go out and not have to worry about being felt up by a pedophile and the kids from pakistan could make jokes about them being chocolate bars and that they'd melt in the sun without causing a big fucking uproar.
Computers were shit, big hulking pieces of shit with a niche audience.
Todays world is fine, not great but fine, technology has made shit too easy and kids nowadays don't have a childhood because the parents are shit.
It's all shit really…
Everything is shit.
Nothing is good.
One thing I can say thought…
Sesame street was better in the 90's

the 90s is kind of a play in 3 acts.

act 1. Very post-80s. Psychotic neon color becomes safe for conservative grownups to decorate stuff with, and they put it on everything. SUUPER wholesome. Everything was FullHouse or softer.

act 2. Counterculture became cool again. Hair metal bands fell to the wayside in favor of grungy goateed guys playing minimal post-metal music that became coined alternative/grunge. Earth tones and purples make a huge comeback. Goth gets sort of cool again but most people don't get it. Everyone can afford a computer now.

Act 3. Alternative edginess merges with mega-sterile big business during one of the biggest economic booms in American history. Shit gets simultaneously safer and more edgy. Music and movies in general become a soulless mash of bright colors, fish eye lenses, backup dancers and very, very bad CGI. Anything remotely shocking or poignant is doomed to financial ruin. Sex jokes are the gold standard all other humor is compared to. Videogames, however, start getting really interesting. Its cool for grownups to like them again. Everyone has a dotcom. Nerds are starting to tell their friends about the super-powerful search engine they found called Google.

fuck it was such a weird decade, man. In equal parts, I miss it and am so glad its long gone.

I suppose all people say their own decade was amazing. But it really was.
We had the X-men, Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron-Man, Superman and Batman animated series.
Video games were truly finding themselves. Sonic, Mario, DK, Zelda all got some of their greatest games. We jumped into 3D with the Playstation and N64, we got the Dreamcast too which honestly felt like a machine from the future.
Sci-Fi was having a boom on TV, with Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Voyager, Stargate SG-1 and many more besides.

PC prices were starting to come down and their usefulness was expanding.
The internet was just getting started, a mysterious place filled with a million secrets.
And porn. So much porn. We'd never seen the like.

The Simpsons were good and actually the funniest thing on TV and considered super-edgy.

Yeah, I miss the 90s.

First person shooters were the best games available, and until quake they were bad but we didn't know that at the time. tv had much more viewers back then and we all talked about the latest episode of the fucking simpsons like it was the best thing we'd ever seen, which is why simpsons memes refuse to die. the first mobiles could only really make calls but then they could play snake and send text messages. a million (yes, a million) people got hacked to death with machetes in rwanda and nobody in the west gave a fuck. we all just watched 902010 and acted like nothing happened. oh and clinton fucked lewinsky and got impeached and hillary was fine with it. people wore a lot of fluro colours and thought the 80s were cringe but clearly in retrospect the 80s fucking owned compared to the 90s.

We had couple communist crooks infesting the white house. People were a lot calmer. And it was HOT. Not that stupid global wrong bulls hit we have now where it's cool. It was utterly hot. Thank God it cooled off. Much better now. It that 10 years was hell.

90's were fucking awesome. Only real downer was how careful everyone had to be about sex during the peak of the AIDS crisis (early 90's). It's far easier to get casual pussy now than it was then.

Yeah, the first-wave of PC hit in the late 90s. South Park even made fun of it back then.

Nowhere near as bad as it is now, though.

We used our imaginations, our tv guides, entertainment weekly, or magazine ads to fap to our celeb crushes, or just record it onto a vhs.

I didn’t have a computer in ‘93 or ‘94 but my older cousins had one. I was 4 and they were 7 and 9. They launched their games from ms dos. We played rescue rover and dangerous Dave. I guess once you get the grasp of it you do it without issues

It was also a decade of talking, about anything and everything, since there was no widespread internet culture. It was also fun reading about new console rumors and reveals.

I played entirely textual online rpgs called MUD's which you would connect to by using telnet and knowing the IP and host at that time.

I couldn't be bothered with trying to download pics, just not worth it when there were so many mags back then.

It was a magic time when people were allowed to say what they wanted to say without sparking international outrage and harassment.

Michael Jackson was still black, Will Smith's nice clean rap was flavour of the month and nobody had heard of Quinoa.

The 90's were great. It was a time of balance between technology and a more tangible way of life. When you wanted to hang out with a friend you'd have to actually walk or ride your bike over to their house. Kids would play outside. Music and video games were exciting because there was a long wait to discovering what was new. TV shows weren't full of reverse racism nigger and jew shit. Cartoons were better. School wasn't some safe space homosexual retard breeding ground designed to perpetuate the feelings of illogical teenagers and pre teens. Basically just look at all the problems we have today because of tech and imagine they weren't there. Information didn't spread as fast so no one gave a shit about the thoughts of all the internet voices that no one should ever give a shit about anyway. I could go on, but you get it

Actual stand-up here. The 90's was the last of the glory days for jokes. Now any joke can be the end of your career. On top of that, you're competing with YouTube "comedians" for views who shamelessly steal jokes and content to the point where comics can't even put clips on YouTube without some hack stealing them. As for pay, you are completely wrong. No one is paying comics anymore, the bar scene is nothing like it was. It's all unpaid open mics. If you try the tour thing, you're lucky to break even and make your money on merch, not stage time.

TL;DR = Stand-up comedy is not what it used to be and will never be again. RIP the 80s/90s.
