Are there any Flat Earthers here?
I have a Master of Science in geology and I work as a geologist, and to me it is so fucking obvious that the Earth is a sphere (flat-earthers might say that I've been indoctrinated by the schools).
I have a serious problem with Flat-Earthers, and I'll do my best to explain it: They conduct an experiment involving the assumed curvature of the Earth. They'll say something like "The Suez canal is 100 miles long, and according to the globe model, there should be a x foot drop in elevation from one end to the other due to the Earth's curvature, but no change is elevation has ever been observed. Therefore the Earth is flat".
They do these experiments and they do not seem to take into account how complicated the natural world is. There are so many factors at play, like exactly how level their laser is, how the tides and wind affect the sea level, the amount of refraction in the atmosphere, etc. One thing I've learned through my years as a geologist is that nature is unbelievably complicated, and there are many many factors at play. Flat Earthers don't realize the complex level of technology and research it has taken for geodesists to survey and map the Earth.
They believe that their 1-day experiment is more accurate than the hundreds of years of evidence. It pisses me off so much.
the earth is flat as taylor swift
Yea, the earth is flat, bro
hey bro
do you seismic echo and reflections?
i am a master and the earth is flat and everyone with a brain and the correct info knows that.
fuck off nigger
>>768705055
You can never tell me with 100% certainty that the earth is flat nor round. You have never seen it.
>>768705596
tfw we have but not from space. from the inside
>inb4 faggot
>inb4 not op
>inb4 newfag cant triforce
>>768705055
Its a meme you dumb faggot
>>768705513
No. I work in the mining industry, but I am familiar with those techniques. The work I do has more to do with understanding the history of the Earth and how ore deposits form.
>>768705055
the earth is donut shaped you fuckin nigger
>>768705055
Even if Nasa and the government told the public that they lied and it was flat - really what difference would it make in the end. 'Just heard the earth was flat, apparently the flat earthers were right all along... Well I gotta go to work, I'll see yea later tonight for beers.' People would freak out for about 6 months, after that life would go back to normal.
>>768705657
We who?
>>768705701
thats cool. NASA's new Flat Mars debunker has just took off for Mars after being tested in an old silver/tin mine or something irrelevant like that.
>>768705797
It would raise many important questions actually.
>claims to be geologist
>has no scientific explanations
>"its just complicated"
>>768705885
Then what
>>768705596
This is the type of flat earther argument I can't stand. I've seen sunsets, boats go over the horizon, been on long flights, and I've learned in school that the Earth is round. I trust what I learned in school because I'm not a delusional idiot.
>>768705055
I work with satellites for a living. I often laugh at what these idiots think I do all day. Do they think the government pays me to just sit and do nothing for 50 hours a week? I fucking wish. And if they think my job is that I know the secret and I spread propaganda, my salary isn't anywhere near high enough to keep me quiet about it.
>>768705935
>trusting what people tell you just because they tell you it's right
Haha. You're so smart! I never even said I was a flat eather. All I said was you can't tell me with certainty.
>>768705922
Well people would look for answers. It would be a pretty groundbreaking discovery.

Light does not lie. That sun is local as evidenced by the specular highlight below it and also by the shadows from the clouds.
If the sun was 92 million miles away the highlight would be on the side of the "globe" that you can't see. But it's not a globe. It's something else. Probably an infinite plane.
>>768705904
The fucking shape of the Earth is complicated. It's not a perfect sphere. There are undulations in the shape of the Earth and there are tides. Search "geoid" if you want to look more into it.
>>768705677
arguing against flat earth is a meme you fucking aspie
>>768706123
>infinite
okay buddy

That all you got?
>>768706361
You literally believe that a planet is actually an infinite plane (INFINITE, really think that through for a minute), and you're the one acting all incredulous?
The lack of self awareness is staggering.

>>768706361
Light does not lie. It's no sphere.
>>768706123
Typical flat earther response. I can't even understand the point you're trying to make. What "specular highlight" are you referring to? All I see in that video is the sun way up in space. This is a classic example of using to pseudoscience to prove the Earth is flat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
this video provides the best and simplest evidence for the flat earth argument
>>768706314
Yeah I've seen this one haha. I've been spending a lot of time on Youtube with this flat earth shit
Seismic echoes and the reflections they make map out a sphere, so probably is a sphere?
>>768706289
>there's no way a plane could be infinite
>infinite space is okay tho
>>768705055
You´re a moron.
The Greeks already figured out that Earth was round and probably someone before them.
You don't need our technology to figure out that the sails of a ship show up before the rest of it when it sails towards you.
They even figured out Earths circumferene.
The Suez canal argument doesn´t make any sense. All you need to tell them is that due to gravity things are always pulled towards the center of Earth. That is how the "Globe Model" explains how nothing drops off said globe.
>>768705055
Earth is an infinite plane and there's a whole other world on the bottom side
>>768706808
Yes. Because space is space and not a planet. How would space end?
The physics that explains that the earth is round is adapted so that it helps to believe in a round earth.
>>768706845
About the ship over the horizon argument. The flat earthers always say some shit like "after the ship disappears over the horizon, you can grab a telescope and still see the ship off in the distance. therefore flat earth"
I see what you're saying re the Suez canal argument. My point is that FE believers have bad logic to begin with and come to their conclusions from this. Also, they don't believe gravity exists, which makes it even harder to dispute their logic.
>>768705055
Look man... this will solve everything for you once and for all.
>>768707113
Then explain without the adaptations
>>768707245
I love any theory that includes other "worlds."
their argument from your first line "I can still see the ship with binoculars" is just not true and easily disprovable by looking through said binoculars.
What is their argument for falling apples then?

I am not convinced by either the globe or flat model. Globe people can only point to science that nobody understands. Globe people don't even give flat people the time of day.
Every debate I've seen is just a globe person acting shocked at a flat person's ideas. They didn't even bother to watch a single youtube video about flat earth. The globe person is totally unprepared to debate and just acts confused and perplexed in an attempt to discredit the flat person.
A lot of the flat peoples evidences for flat earth are based on faulty logic. They proclaim that a gyroscope can only work on a plane, not a globe. They don't elaborate on that. And I won't just take their word for it. Some of the observable evidence can be explained in other ways.
Everyone can go fuck themselves. I am not believing anything until I see proof with my own eyes.
>>768706046
>Flat Earther
>>768707113
Of course physics is adapted to fit a round Earth model. We've known for centuries that the Earth is round, so we develop theories and models that help explain the physical processes that happen on Earth. What other approach would there be?
>>768707521
Why are you so delusional? There are thousands of satellite images online of the Earth and we've been to the moon six fucking times. Do you think 9/11 was an inside job? Do you believe in chemtrails? Do you have trust issues?

The Himawari 8 weather satellite uploads a new 11K photograph of Earth every 15 minutes. There are many more than thousands. We've been routinely photographing Earth since the 60's.
>>768708001
>Why are you so delusional?
I will only believe what I can see with my own eyes.
>There are thousands of satellite images online of the Earth
I have never seen a satellite. I have never seen space. Pictures can be fake.
>and we've been to the moon six fucking times.
Moon stuff is way to questionable.
>Do you think 9/11 was an inside job?
I have no belief about it. The official story may be true. But it may be false. It could be an inside job. It could not be. I'm not taking anyone else's word for it.
>Do you believe in chemtrails?
I see contrails in the sky. It's possible that they are spraying chemicals, but I do not know or believe this to be the case.
>Do you have trust issues?
Yes, very much so. I am very skeptical of everything. I only truly believe what I experience first hand. I am, of course, very familiar with mainstream ideas. I play along outwardly because people are uncomfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty.
People want things to be black and white. Earth is either flat or it's a globe. The reality is that, for most people, we cannot truly know any of these things. And to blindly believe second hand knowledge about these things is akin to personal deception.
>>768709112
Thanks. I'll check that out
>>768709159
That's commendable. It must be difficult to play along outwardly. I just can't get inside the mind of someone with that thought process. I consider myself skeptical but not to the extent that you are. I have a job where I work with satellite images daily and the thought that they are fake is just absurd.
>>768705596
>You can never tell me with 100% certainty that the earth is flat nor round. You have never seen it.
so, exoplanets around other worlds dont exist. no-one's seen them?
Atoms don't exist. no-one's seen them.
nor do bacteria exist. no-one's seen those.
and your penis doesn't exist either, as no-one's see that.
would it utterly blow your mind that there are ways to work it out, without having to look at it from a distance. Methods which have been used for more than two thousand years?
>>768709159
If you've never seen a satellite, it's because you've never tried. Look up Iridium flares. There's a brief period after the sun has set where satellites in orbit are still sunlit, but the sky is dark. This allows you to see satellites as they fly over. They look like bright mobile stars, and they'll briefly flare when they hit the sweet spot in their orbit. You can get an app on your phone called ISS Detector to get the timing right. As you'd expect, the ISS (being by far the largest object in LEO) is the brightest you can see. It's a very interesting experience. I'd recommend it.
>>768709159
>I will only believe what I can see with my own eyes.
once upon a time, you would've been weeded out of the gene pool, when Ug told all the other people that a fucking big sabertooth tiger was prowling round the water-hole.
sadly, in this day and age, your utter inability to learn from any other person means the rest of humanity has to suffer your incredible levels of ignorance.
