I agree with you, we are kinda loud, but you need to distinguish french from big towns and french from small town. Those from small towns are not as polite as the other etc... It's also because northen countries are more rigid than us, like we cross the street when it's red all the time, I did it in Germany and people looked like a Jew in 1943.
