You get 36 months of free college, and Veteran's Affairs benefits for the rest of your life. Many states also have their own benefits that they give to veterans.

It can be used wherever, including foreign schools. Not sure how that works though, but heard of people doing it. The benefit is called the Post 9/11 GI-Bill. It covers the USD value of 36 months of school, UP TO the most expensive public school in that state. So if you go to a private school in California, and that school costs more than the most expensive public school in California, it won't cover all of it. However, some schools have something called the "Yellow Ribbon Program" that will make up for this. Also, the Post 9/11 GI-Bill gives you a book stipend and Basic Housing Allowance at an E-5 with dependents rate based on the location of the school you attend.
