What does /b/ think of this build? I need to keep it around $800 USD, but I can go over a little. Already have the OS, monitor, SSD and HDD.

Go to /g/ and fuck off
>>768502428
Well, thanks for pointing me to the right board.
You fuck off and have a great day.
what about mouse? where is mouse? you have mouse?
>>768502623
I don't, but I know I need one. Still looking for the right one. At the moment, just worried about the "core" of the rig.
>>768502861
mouse first ok
>>768502102
What the fuck is that?
anything with only 3 ram slots is legitimately going to cost you in the long game. no matter what.
>>768502102
>ryzen
clicked off right away
>>768502102
>Already have the OS
yehhh free copy from internet lol
>>768503107
>>768503124
Well done, you've just proved you know fuck all about computers, click off and uninstall the internet dipshit
>>768502991
looks like the MSI x370 pro gaming board to me, could be wrong though
>>768503529
nah thats a gtx titan
>>768503124
Lol I have a Ryzen 1600 and it's fantastic.
Go suck a blue dick, Intel fanboy.
Do us all a favor and buy a Mac
its 2018 people stop using these cut rate pc boards and just buy the server boards for fucks sake multiple processors what like 4-8 fits any of the the newer processors cores totaling 64 or up 512 gig =more ram than most of you would ever use and tromps Any pc hands down in gaming or anything else. and yet your still arsing around with sub par machines
>>768503886
>No free game
No ty
>>768504281
Yeah cause it's much fucking cheaper than buying a server board and multiple processors, that barely anyone is gonna actually take advantage of.
>>768504347
bullshit you dont know how to build it then
>>768503107
And that's the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks!
>>768504422
Please, enlighten me then
>>768502102
Spend slightly more on the case for better acoustics and cooling, also don't be afraid to go with a slightly less powerful gpu.
>>768503184
What about Ubuntu? It's free.
>>768504347
any say older (say 4 year tyan server with 4 chip slots will run you what 150 to 200 $ go on fucking ebay and wait to catch processors and ram for a decent price dont have to be the latest and greatest ether 4 older amd prossecers will tromp a ryzen in any case more cores is more core and running speed is running speed as far as ghz as for video anything with 1-4 slots you can stick in and sli or cross them and total would be close to 2-3 grand ..its been done before ass
>>768505006
Well some people like to buy old cars and fix them up, and some people like to buy new ones.
If people only need a Ryzen 1500, then that'll last them a few years as it is. Why buy stuff that's already old given how fast computers and games move? it's much simpler to buy good bang for buck stuff new today and as you said, get about the same performance.
>>768503184
Haha. I work in IT, so I have access to some hardware and software
god dam i really wish sometimes they'd raise the prices back up on computers so you piss poor ignorant ass morons would get the fuck off the net like it was pre 95
>>768505006
>poorfag detected
>>768502102
You should get r5 2600 and x470 Chipset mobo, and better power supply
Only thing I'd say is, do you really need a 1080? You may be able to lower the cost a little, by getting a 1070 or slightly lower... I know that GFX cards boomed in price due to mining, I don't know how much they've dropped now
>>768508038
Ah, shit, didn't realize I pasted the wrong link. I agree with you, which is why I'm going with a 1060.
>>768508115
Good choice for bang for buck man. I have an RX580 which is roughly comparable to a 1060.
I played GTA 5, Project Cars 2, DOOM and Bioshock Infinite on my friend's 4K TV at 60fps or above, medium to high settings depending on the game.
>>768508262
Nice! Thanks for the info.
>>768508115
Are you comfortable buying used?
I'd recomend checking used marked for processor and motherboard
>>768508444
I was really impressed, it handles all but the most modern games at max settings on a 1080 screen with absolute ease. Not overclocked or anything.
In DOOM with the Vulkan API, I get like 120fps at max settings, it's delicious.
>>768508739
With a Ryzen 1600, in case you were wondering
>>768502102
why SSD? cut the SSD if you want better gpu/cpu performance
>>768508905
lol wut?
So everyone using SSDs is getting bad performance from the rest of their system?
>>768502102
that case is really ugly IMO but the build works, you might want to opt for 8gb of ram right now and get another 8gb in the future when the cost goes down because its not like you would actually need 16gb. Try to throw in a 40 dollar mechanical keyboard, your mouse of choice, and an xxl mousepad to complete your shit.
>>768502102
>https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9XsjZR
When did people start buying AMD again?
>>768509320
Since the Ryzen processors and RX5 series graphics cards are such great bang for buck.
Like I said to OP, I got a Ryzen 5 1600 for 180, an RX580 for 280, and I can play GTA5 at 4K
I build these systems and fix computers professionally.
Your build is fine. I don't think you picked a CPU cooler though. Stick with the cooler master hyper 212. It is hands down the best cooler for the money. Don't let any weabo faggots here tell you otherwise. Other than that the build is fine. If cost is an issue it's far better to go with a low end motherboard that has the features you require and spend the extra money on a better GPU. So you are on track there. Not sure what the other guy is talking about having worse you/CPU performance with no SSD. That is 100% horse shit lol. Also make sure you run windows 10. Tired of hearing morons whine about it. It is easily the most reliable, fastest, best overall version of Windows that has ever existed. In fact given the same hardware configuration windows 10 can be up to 5% faster in games over windows 7. Good luck bro.
>>768509201
you're not that smart duh. an SSD just cuts the loading times and bootup times cause of faster reading speeds. it's about as beneficial as running a higher clockspeed on your RAM than usual.
(1600mhz instead of 1333) an SSD in itself would at max give 7 fps boost which is nothing if you check how much you pay extra
>>768509792
Yeah I know, and he probably does too.
I don't have an SSD for gaming performance, and he probably doesn't either. It's just nice to have a faster, more responsive system to use when you're not gaming. And game load times are excellent.
>>768502102
poorfag build , who gives a shit
>>768509792
I'm not the guy you are replying to, bit you are a little confused.
People are not buying SSD's to get better FPS in games. If they are, they are sorely ignorant. You use an SSD for the exact reason you said, to decrease loading times essentially. It will drastically increase the bootup speed of the computer, accessing any files, filw transfer speeds in some cases depending on the other medium, and opening any program/game will be far faster.
The performance increase of an SSD in terms of loading times versus say overclocking your RAM are not even comparable. Having faster RAM has literally made no significant performance increases in years, until DDR 4 came about. Even over clocking your DDR4 isn't going to change anything compared to upgrading a hard drive to an SSD however.
>>768509988
I have one but I only use it for booting up and to put one of my most used games on since it's only 120gb big. all other games are on my HDD which runs just fine. I play mostly online games tho so only looking for good ISPs with neat backend
>>768508905
I work in an IT department. The guy I replaced bought a M.2 SSD, and none of our systems can use it, and it was bought too long ago to return, so my boss said I can have it. Thought I might as well put it to use.
>>768508566
I'm comfortable with it, thanks for the tip!
>>768510414
You should definitely use that. You won't cut down your performance in any way, shape, or form.
>>768508739
Oh, that gets me moist. I've been a console guy all my life. I can't wait to ascend!
>>768510316
I feel you, I like a neat backend
>AMD
You should go for an Intel build, most of my experiences with amd are not too good
>>768509792
Higher clockspeed on RAM makes no more than 2% difference, congratulations on falling for marketing bullshit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_Yt4vSZKVk
>>768510575
Alright I'll bite, why?
>>768509773
I agree. Win10 has been great to me so far. Been using it for awhile now with zero issues. And at my job, we just upgraded all the systems to Win10, and my workload has gone down significantly
Thanks for the heads up about the cooler.
>>768510256
so then you agree I can finally go to sleep in peace>>768510414
then just find a board that has the port for it. if it didn't cost you anything use it.
I also have 2 spare HDDs in my shelf just in case something unusual happens.
I'm the guy who told ya to cut ssd
>>768510647
>Linustechtips
>>768510722
I don't agree in terms that cutting out an SSD is going to gain performance, because it doesn't. Having SSD over hard drives is better all around if you could afford the storage sizes. There is absolutely no advantage that a hard drive has over an SSD other than the cost per GB at this point in time.
>>768510885
He did a test, got some numbers. The result is the same, doesn't matter who reported the numbers.
>>768510885
Linus might be fairly annoying, but his videos and benchmarks are always on point.
>>768508262
yeah fuck off fat nigger
>>768511812
Care to elaborate?
>>768502102
>https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9XsjZR
>550w
>overpriced gpu
lol okay retard
>>768512049
Well, are you going to add anything of quality to the discussion or are you just going to spout shit?
>>768502428
This is the random board here can be here if he wants
>>768509792
you're a fuckin' retard
SEEING THIS ON /B/ IS JUST ADDING SALT TO INJURY. GET LOST YOU WEIGHTLORD - YOUR OWN GRAVITY WILL BE THE END OF YOU. BUY A BOAT.
>>768503107
wut
>>768503124
you clearly don't know what you're talking about, ryzen is great for budget builds, but if i had infinite amounts of money i'd still go with an i7
>>768514097
What about the Ryzen 5 vs an i5?
>>768514631
you can overclock the ryzen 5 (with stock cooler) and blow any non k-series i5's out of the water
>>768514809
Awesome, thanks!
Okay... first of all - what is your target resolution - are you gaming - what are you playing?
Two issues right now.
If you're gaming in 1080p, don't buy a 1080, worst waste of your money. Buy a 1060 6gb.
Buy an SSD, and a secondary storage drive. Will save you a shit load of trouble.
Now to the actual hardware.
Buy Corsair Vengeance LPX ram. It's certified for Ryzen. Same price as that stuff too.
you're skimping on your PSU, do not do that. Get a 600w fully modular, it'll make your build look cleaner.
Get the Asus prime B350 plus. Much better imho. Unless you want that black board for a reason - the MosFets on those aren't as well cooled as the ones on the Asus Prime board so if you're going to OC your CPU, I'd recommend you not go stock cooler.
>>768515536
For reference, this is my build.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BdY8r6
>>768502102
where's your heat sink / cooling system? i think you could avoid amd...
>>768515536
Yeah, I pasted the wrong link. I will be gaming in 1080, and I did end up choosing a 1060.
As far as what I will be playing, I'm not really sure. I'm a consolefag at the moment, so I'm probably going to end up trying a bunch of new games. At the moment, I'm into games like R6:S and The Division. I'm more into FPS at the moment, but that's really all I've known.
Thanks for the tips on the RAM and PSU. For the board, I'm not married to the one I chose, so I'll look into what you recommended.
For the SSD, I do already have a 512 SSD (M.2) and two 1TB 7200 HDDs.
