Your one man one vote is great for in-state elections. You gotta look at the presidential election as the choice of the state's and not the people directly. Northern California is predominately "red" compared to the rest of the state, yet the state is controlled completely by dems. So when it comes to the presidential election, no matter if it direct democracy or the EC, cali would always be won by a democrat anyways. But the founders wisely made sure that our national leader wasn't made that way by mob rule. It's far to easy someone to become super popular and upend our constitutional system. Ether they have nothing or the GOP and Republican leaning people, like the people investigating Trump are trying to slow down the information of there being something because they'd lose Trump and any power they had to push their plans into fruition.
In the end though, Trump is to good to let go, he's done a lot for the people of America, he's pleased the GOP and other people and has made incredibly smart moves to ensure us for the future and any possible Democratic fuck-ups
