If I remember correctly, they had prototypes built,
Known as the XB70, but a collision with a fighter escort during a test (f104 starfighter) caused both crews to crash and die, leading to the cancellation. But also true about missiles and ICBM's.

The plane so advanced, so superior to anything else in the skies, that the Amerifat military industrial complex extorted the Canadian government into not only cancelling the program but dismantling and destroying every prototype and burning the blueprints. All the engineers who had worked on it ended up being snatched up by Amerifat aerospace companies, and their work is what gave the US dominance of the skies.

>>
>>768323674
Well let's see, a program which had used up a generation worth of the finest engineers in the world was destroyed because rich, corrupt Amerifat corporations knew they couldn't compete with it. Then the Amerifats sold Canada a bunch of F-18s to replace them,,, knowing that they were going to be used on the DEW line, up past the arctic circle, and that they COULDN'T START in cold weather. The entire fleet of F-18s had to be modified and rebuilt to add heaters.

All the engineers who had worked on the Arrow were so angry and bitter that they fled the country and ended up working for the same fatcat corporations who had forced the Canadian government to destroy the Arrow.

Yeah, I'm mad.

Jet engine technology is matured and even relatively old planes still can be retrofitted with modern tech. The harrier is a piece of shit because its fundamentally inferior of a design compared to the F-35.

This

Also, the f-15 is pretty great and has an interesting origin:
>Be Ivan
>See America building a new bomber
>Decide you need an interceptor to take down the bomber
>America cancels the project
>Keep building the interceptor(Mig 25)
>Don't have good materials so build it out of steel
>Keep it secret but show it off at some airshows
>Brag about it being the perfect military jet
>Scare the shit out of America

What makes humans the best apex predator on earth is that we can kill prey with only a minuscule risk to ourselves. A wolf can be kicked by a moose; a cat can be gored by a water buffalo; a bear can be killed by a cougar stealing its food; but a human can kill its prey without playing a game of Russian Roulette before every meal. And Americans, chief among humans, can slaughter other humans as though they are sheep in the slaughterhouse. As the Apex nation of the Apex predators, American technology must be protected from the lesser "peoples" of the world who reside in foreign shitholes perpetually enslaved to old grievances and ethnic division. The foreign savage can't invent new technology lest it disrupt the balances of power and, as such, lives in lands governed by institutions that favor order over advancement. That is fundamentally inhuman since it runs counter to our natural instinct - coupled with our superior brains - to develop better and better ways to dispatch our prey and competition.

Stuff changes. Also, we need to minimize the amount of stuff those savages steal. New fighter jets and penetration aids on ICBMs/SLBMs are very tightly kept secrets. Yeah, Chang can steal industrial secrets and some serious stuff but they can't steal everything and have to be opportunistic. That's why they wanted parts from that chopper that was used to kill the bearded man(obviously they didn't know about its stealthy skin).
>>
>>768336901
>Yes and the mig 29 can land without landing gear in the snow and pull a cobra
So? It may be slightly more manuverable but there's a price you pay when you make a plane more manuverable.

There's a triangle for planes with 1 point being maneuverability, another being armament, and the last being speed. Each one of those qualities comes at the cost of the other two. The Mig-29 may be more maneuverable but so is a stunt plane. An F-15 is slightly faster and can hold far more weapons.

>But a Mig-29 can land in the snow
Yeah, and a frog-foot and eat concrete. These are qualities associated with crumbling/destroyed airfields and are basically only important if you already assume that your enemy has air superiority. American planes don't need to take off from ruined runways because we already own the skys.

False.
>"Inaccurate intelligence analysis caused the West initially to believe the MiG-25 was an agile air-combat fighter rather than an interceptor. In response, the United States started a new program which resulted in the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle.[24] NATO obtained a better understanding of the MiG-25's capabilities on 6 September 1976, when a Soviet Air Defence Forces pilot, Lt. Viktor Belenko, defected, landing his MiG-25P at Hakodate Airport in Japan.[25][26] The pilot overshot the runway on landing and damaged the front landing gear. Despite Soviet protests, the Japanese invited U.S. Air Force personnel to investigate the aircraft.[27] On 25 September, it was moved by a C-5A transport to a base in central Japan, where it was carefully dismantled and analyzed.[28] After 67 days, the aircraft was returned by ship to the Soviets, in pieces.[29][30] The aircraft was reassembled and is now on display at the Sokol plant in Nizhny Novgorod."
No one expected an interceptor in the age of missiles because that would be retarded. The defector landed many years after the Valkyrie was canceled.

It is during times of uncertainty since it can adapt to new situations. Also, it'll probably be slave aircrafts(drones controlled by the fighter) in the future and the F-35 is clearly designed for such systems. Imagine 2 F-35s flying with 2-4 drones each carrying weapons, ECM, or even being useful in dogfights. The F-35 would be like a manager of unmanned systems that'd give it the flexibility to do damn well everything.

Think about it another way: if the F-35 was a total piece of shit and waste of money, then why would the Russians and Chinese bitch about it so much? Why would RT and CCTV give a damn if it was an Edsel of the skys? They'd be promoting it and telling the American voters that its the greatest military investment imaginable.

Not really. Yeah, the F4's original engine set up that used regular turbojets instead of turbofans was pretty stupid but it was still better than shit like the Mig-17. The F4's other drawback was that it didn't originally have a gun but that was rectified.

Shitting on the F4 is like shitting on the original IBM PC; yeah, it had its flaws but it was at the beginning of a new era. Also, you can blame the early air-to-air missiles for fucking up its reputation since they were far more unreliable than the designers of the F4 imagined.

1) The feds do care.
2) Sometimes its smart to throw your enemy off by letting them steal useless information so long as your delivery mechanism isn't a Russian nuclear scientist who points out the problems.
3) No one thought WW1 would be like it was but it did happen. We could be at war with China at any time.

>XB-70
>2018

The B-70 if it was adopted by the USAF would have undergone modernization. It would likely be a cruise missile carrier. So lets say the B-70 survived SALT II/STAR I treaties. It would likely fly from Minot AFB to targets in the PRC/Russian Federation.

It would have to carry stand off weapons to survive.

>A mission to China would take 3 hours and three air refueling, with stand off weapons.
>A mission to Russian would take about an hour to the range of Arkangelesk Naval Base and one air refueling, with stand off weapons.

There is a reason they cancelled this thing in favor of missiles. But I guess you can sortie bombers for a standoff and not missiles. Also the US doesn't have as good as an air launched cruise missile capability as the Russians/Chinese.

I think we can all agree on 3 facts:
1) The F-35 is superior to basically every other fighter except the F-22(for now). When its capable of controlling drones, it'll be the best plane.
2) Russian planes generally suck relative to American planes.
3) The A-10 is the 3rd best plane.

Well, maybe not so much since the .50 cal buff. but other than that, it's just the typical vatnik surprise that is bias. They can't stand seeing the US having superior hardware. Better nerf it in a video game, that'll show em.

But seriously, bf109 is where it's at. American style BNZ, but climbs faster, has better armor, and competitive armament.

>Look at the range of our missiles versus those of the Russians.
I did. Russia's main cruise missile, the Kh-55, has a significantly shorter range than the AGM 129 and around the same range(or up to about 200 miles further) as the Tomahawk.

If you're talking about SAMs, then its a question of how good the countermeasures are on the B-70 vs the contemporary Russian missiles.
