Serious question here, /b/.

Has Donald Trump improved the lives of ordinary Americans? After all, the measurement of the effectiveness of any leader of a state is quantified by the overall improvement of the quality of life of said state's constituents.

>tl;dr: explain to me how trump is improving the lives of ordinary citizens. i'm honestly curious
>>
My income tax isn't as high

How much do you make a year?
>>
>>768249014
i dont pay as much in taxes either. granted im not a poor fuck. those assholes got screwed
>>
For me, there's no appreciable difference, as long as I'm in the United States. When I travel outside the country, however, I get chilly receptions more frequently. People in other parts of the world are watching this little experiment unfold and they don't appear enthusiastic about it.
>>
If Hillary had won, the right would be consolidated, even more so than under Obama.

Now, the GOP is ripe for fracture between the Trump traitors and the reasonable conservatives. 2018 is going to be huge, 2020 even bigger.

Taxes didn't change for me really, but now my wife (a teacher) doesn't even get reimbursed for shit anymore. Everything cool she wants to do for her class has to come out of our pockets.

the news is entertaining as fuck now.

I live "outside the country" and I love it. Even got me a MAGA hat. The people you're getting a "chilly reception" from are just foreign libtards.
>>
>>768249487
I mean, if it isn't necessary then good. I don't want school funding to be going to bullshit like donut parties or whatever else your wife likes to do with the class.

Science projects, object lessons in math, stuff to actually get kids engaged and educated...
If this country valued education like, say, Singapore or those happy Scandinavian countries, there would be less loser dropouts bitching on 4chan all day.
>>
>>768249487
This is no different than 20 years ago when I was in school. Too often we had destroyed books, teachers bought pencils and paper, chalk.

Only difference now is schools are buying completely unnecessary shit

>My younger brother had 'ipad tablet' as a required material a few years back
>Same year they scrapped spelling and arts classes
>>
>>768249266
i don't know if there even is a reasonable faction in the GOP anymore. i think this is just what happens after 8 years of Citizens United... the monied special interests have displaced all but a few holdouts that have yet to retire or die.
>>
I'm waiting to see how much my tax refund next year is. That's where a random jack off like me would get robbed by "the system"
>>
>>768249680
Glad to hear that you're enjoying it. But no, they aren't all "libtards. It's a pretty good cross-section of people. Some, like you, like what they see. A lot more of them don't. At least that's my experience.
>>
Not exactly ordinary since I'm upper class (~1-2m/year), but honestly your income as a middle-class citizen is only realized in your ability to buy velbin goods [https://www.investopedia.com/terms/v/veblen-good.asp], so only lower class citizens [15% of us] ever have noticeable quality-of-life changes when money is given or taken away, and even then they should be markedly better off than anybody in the world a few decades ago. I also live in Houston, and I'm sure many of the people I know are illegals but no one I've known has ever been deported and the police don't fucking care, so I don't give a shit.

His foreign policies are good for long-term success as I understand it, though.
>tl;dr he's playing the long game so who knows, but it hasn't gotten worse

It's just such a non argument, head in the sand line of thinking when people default to:
"that's how it was when I was a kid, therefore that's how it should be"
Things can change, for the better, that's possible.
>>
>>768250545

well yeah it's possible but things aren't changing for the better at all, quite the opposite
>>
>>768250149

Given that his popularity in the US is shit, it's no surprise that his popularity in other countries is also shit. Who gives a fuck. He's the most entertaining thing to happen to politics in ages, and I'd take him in a second over the fag we have running my country.
>>
Average Joe's got cucked hard
>>
>>768250545
I never made it a point as too, that's how it should be.

The point really was, it hasn't changed through any sitting leader, it's always been shit, and funding goes off into all kinds of odd places.

I don't believe that teachers should have to open up their already baren wallets to provide for students.
>>
Bottom line though, as long as teachers are paid shit, public education will be shit.
It's funny, it's not even that expensive private schools have better teachers, those teachers are usually paid even less than public school teachers. But when you can choose to not accept poor/retarded/whatever kids, obviously it's gonna be easier to manage a classroom.
I don't know what the answer is, higher pay, selective breeding, accepting the american "1% rich, 99% slaves" mindset?
I dunno man.

It's just frustrating trying to do something that seems inherently good, but knowing these kids are probably gonna get fucked by our system anyway. If they're brown, and in these title 1 schools, odds aren't good.
Just frustrating when already strapped teachers are getting gimped even more. Can't really blame ppl for their bad perception of teachers in general, low pay attracts lots of shitty teachers along with the minority of good ones.

Tax brackets and withholdings changed Jan. 1, 2018 with the passage of the tax reform.
So yes, he probably is seeing that much extra due to those changes.
>>
>>768251036

I'm assuming you meant "does not equate"

I'll admit my equation was fairly retarded, however the point stands, Clinton would have completely destroyed the US as we know it. It would be flooded with refugees and immigrants who don't add anything to the economy and suck up resources while over breeding. Etc. Etc.

Did you know that Germany has hired practically less than 1% of the refugees/immigrants? Google it, they can't hire them because they have no skills whatsover.

It's funny how people so readily and willingly play into the whole republican/democrat narrative provided for them.

And the whole tablet and spelling thing was to show how lazy education is getting.

Something along that line is why they got rid of it.

Pisses me off that they just think it's a good idea to remove critical curriculum.

Mandatory healthcare mandate abolished so more money in my pocket. North Korean nuclear threat completely wiped out so no reason for any Californians to worry about an attack (and they'll prolly never thank him for cuz they're ungrateful pieces of shit). More jobs coming back day by day, ending the government-dependence strangehold and the need for useless government programs that only serve the welfare scumbags and shitheads who refuse to work. Veterans are being treated like decent human beings now. Policemen are being treated like decent human beings now. White people are slowly starting to be treated like decent human beings now. GDP growth is WELL above the average, even more so than Obama''s at this time during his regime. Fewer illegals crossing the border along with brutal killings they commit while they're here, ALL OF WHICH ARE VASTLY UNDERREPORTED AND ALL OF WHICH THEY WERE RECIEVING AMNESTY FOR WHILE UNDER OBAMAS ADMINISTRATIONS. So yeah, I'd say quality of life has improved.

>>
>>768251806
I agree, ipads and whatnot are just gimmicky. You don't need more than a chalkboard and a competent teacher, maybe some good textbooks, to do quality genuine teaching. It's all about how the teacher engages the kids gets them actually learning productively. You're not gonna get lots of teachers who are good at that when the pay isn't great.
Only super altruistic people are gonna stick it out in education when they know they could easily double their salaries moving to the private sector doing something else.
>>
>>768251879
The change was for this year’s income you make - it should have started as soon as you began work in January.
If you’re talking about your W2 forms for your taxes, yeah, they have to be mailed out by Jan 31 each year or they can be levied a hefty fine from both the IRS and your state’s labor or income tax commission agency.
>>
>>768251649
>It would be flooded with refugees and immigrant
This old chesnut
Only number I ever heard regarding that policy was around 4-500,000 refugees. Doesn't add up to much in a country of 300 million. Is this the sole deal breaker for you of a Clinton Presidency? It's only a matter of time before Trump does some ignorant thing or policy, since his knowledge of political affairs and ability to learn is traish, that his handlers can't reel in or whitewash. Of course he'll be shitposting on twitter blaming someone else, and you'll be probably blaming the scapegoat too.
>>
>>768252168
It's really not even that hard, shit a white board is 50 bucks for a big one (my company just bought like 10 with a bulk discount) and markers are fucking 1 dollar.
>>
>>768248670

That's not the mark of a good leader.
>>
>>768250239
I'm all for our robot overlords, but until then, it might be best to keep people educated. I know I know, having a low quality of life is extremely appealing, but there are unforseen downfalls to it.

Unless you’re talking about something illegal, there is very few ways you can make more without serious investment.

>>
>>768252246

So a little poison is fine because it's "just a little"? What happens is that "just a little" turns into "a whole lot" after one generation of breeding like rabbits due to welfare.

Also, here's the link on the Germany situation. Why don't you move there and help educate these migrants and report back in a few years?

I only ask that a president not screw things up too bad by eroding civil rights, taxing the populace so inappropriately that class structure remains rigid, or forcing me to die "for my country."

I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I still think I made the right decision

I can't speak for the nation, but our local economy has been booming since Trump was elected into office. Being a small business owner, I have directly encountered this. His business-like mind is doing an excellent job of stimulating our economics and will hopefully get us out of debt. He may need another term just to undo everything the Obama administration put into place. I understand why the left doesn't like him from a social psychological stand-point, but he is restoring power to the middle classes; something that has been going on with the string of democratic presidents.

Because of the upcoming tax reforms, my company gave a $1000 bonus to all employees. Taxed, of course, but still this is the only impact the current administration has had on me, and its positive. Plus, the standard deduction is going way up next year, so that'll increase what I get in my return.

Honest answer no. I am not trying to sound like a Debbie downer but trump in office is no different than Obama and bush. Everyone hates them for something, the presidency is a distraction, this is why the millennial voting demographic was for Bernie Sanders, albeit he was running an atrocious political campaign with wanting to throw socialism in the mix, but the youngsters liked that change. They are tired of seeing the same blue vs red, hence why most sanders supporters went to trumps side(including me) he’s not your average politician or at least didn’t run like it. Now that he is in office he is doing the same things the others did and that’s play ball. A fall guy. I remember when George bush was in office everyone made fun of how stupid he was and how unfit he was for the presidency, books were made about this. Now that 10 years have gone by no one cares anymore. People are now calling him a genius and a good president.

>TL;DR
Nothing has changed, presidents are good for one thing and one thing only, distracting you into thinking you can make a difference without having you make a difference

The cost of firearms and ammo were going down before the country went Hogg Wild and I was able to get a nice stockpile of ammo

My friend stationed in Korea could potentially be coming home sooner than he's supposed to, but at a very minimum at least feels safer at night.

Screeching liberals who no capacity to be exposed to dissenting opinions have all deleted me on facebook, making my social media feeds like 90% less whiney, because as it turns out, the people who complain non stop about Trump, were also the people non stop complaining about everything else.

Non stop witch hunting and fury over Trump winning has drug politicians on both sides threw the mud and they are dropping like flies because everyone is out to get everyone like we've never seen before.

So tl;dr, I make more money, I get less money taken from me, my hobbies are cheaper, I have better quality of life, my friends and family are measurably safer, politicians I hate are falling apart, and my social media experience has improved significantly.

And I didn't even vote for Trump. I voted libertarian, because I couldn't vote for Rand Paul. I don't care how many feelings he's hurt, or how butthurt super liberal eurotrash is. I've been *mostly fine with everything he's actually DONE, because he hasn't DONE any of the awful shit he's said. That's a win.

The thing is people think the number of migrants and the effect it will have on public life is kind of linear. It's not. You need very few people to completely change everything if they behave completely different than the average person. German people are kind of "shy" and try to stay away from public places. The only go out to buy stuff or go to a restaurant. Middle east people basically live on the street (at least the mens). So even if their number are small, their share of people you see on the streets is very high. At night time way above 90% in some regions (maybe higher as you rarely see german people but it's just a guesstimation)

Oh there can be quite the compilation gathered with enough time
Let's rewind back to when he first started running. When asked what he would have done in Iraq, he went "hurr durr I woulda just taken their oil". So that tanks the entire Iraqi economy, leaving millions starved and impoverished, for what, exactly?

He was also a big supporter of torture, for literally no ascertainable reasonable other than it makes him look tough.

When pressed on some of his sexual harrasment allegations, his only real defense was "Does she look like someone I'd want?" That's a good line for a speech, but if your gf or female family was in the same position, and you heard that from the accused, would that convince you?

This is true, even though the unemployment rate is fantastic, salaries aren't going up.
Some companies are giving more non salary pay, bonuses/etc.

buddy... by "us," I assume you mean the american population as a whole, or a generalized group like say the population of Houston.
If so, what led you to believe that lower class citizen account for only 15% of the population??
I mean, houston is doing better than the rest of the country on average, but only 20% of the population (according to statisticalatlas) accounts for 56% of the household income. I mean, that would mean 80% of the population of Houston fall in a range that could be called "economically sensitive," right? People and households that would feel the effect of even minor shifts in the price of staple goods, like gas and milk, right? Unless I misunderstood you. And please correct me if I did.

>>768248670
a bit more than half the people I know and care about fall below the median household income where I live (TN). WIth a few exceptions, even those that are comfortably above the median line have difficultly with the cost of gas spiking due to the Iran mess. And everyone I know, regardless of income or education, is affected by recent DOJ changes in policy regarding drugs, prescription or illicit. Everyone. My octogenarian uncle, the CEO of my company, the guy that works the drive through window at the nearest taco bell, my 15-y.o. nephew...

Taxes when down marginally for everyone I know this year, and might do the same next year. but within ten years (unless something changes) the bottom 80% of the tax payers are set to carry about 90% of the tax burden, but only receive about 20% or less of benefits. Whereas the top 5% might carry 10% of the burden, if any, and receive the full spectrum of any benefits available. On top of that, the GOP wants to eliminate what they refer to as "entitlements," which are things like Social Security and MediCare. Things every tax payer contributes to. Those aren't entitlements. And losing them would have a major impact on the quality of life of any person in the lower 60% of income

so tl;dr - if things keep up the way they have been for the past year, we would NEED something like the Purge instated within the next ten years in order to keep from having a fucking revolution within twenty.

And let me just say, nobody in the world wants that. Well.. nobody in the world except crazy people and poor people that have been driven crazy by poverty want that.

But hey, our shit is broke like a motherfucker. Maybe a revolution would give us a chance to fix it. Money is always returned to the owners. That's not evil or wrong.

Productivity has substantially increased which is a good thing too.

The world economies are very different than they were in the 70's. This is a great thing too.

The quality of life in China and India have increased exponentially. Billions of people have literally been lifted out of poverty and famine. This is great.

Wages are good in America.
Our economy is proof of that fact.

"How has quality of life increased, because you have a smart phone?"

Yes, having access to all of the worlds knowledge at any given moment is a fucking HUGE quality of life increase, are you retarded?

"Housing and basic cost of living eats up a significantly higher portion of the average person's income now."
And the quality of housing and living accommodations are significantly improved. We don't have to spend entire days laying on the floor trying not to sweat to death in summer, or huddling together entire months to not freeze to death. We don't have to buy literal giant blocks of ice to preserve food. We can travel anywhere we want faster and more comfortable. We have more variety of foods and cheaper foods.

>There are more toxic particles of industry leftovers floating around in your air and water than ever.

Way better back in the day when all the toxins were just in our food, water, and paint in our walls.

>People in general are more isolated and unhealthy than ever, I could go on.
People choose to isolate themselves and that's no one elses business. And yeah we're healthier because we have so much access to cheap delicious food we cant control ourselves. HOW TERRIFYING, it'd be WAY better if we went back to not having all the overeating illnesses and had to worry about getting a meal each day while also still having shorter life expectancy.

>As for inflation, come on, when everything but your salary is increasing, you have less money relative to the cost of stuff.

that's a structural fallacy, and maliciously misleading (whether knowingly or in ignorance)

Salaries in a corporate setting are affected firstly by demand for a position, second how that position directly affects the bottom or top line, and third what they believe they can get away with paying someone in said position.

Corporate taxes are only levied on corporate profits, and the tax structure is such that operating costs are taken out of the gross income before being taxed. Anyone that has ever filled a 1040 could figure that out.

Accurate but you will always have the voters that base their opinions off of surface value, like Obama being colored, Bush walking in Bush Sr's foot steps, Trump 'MAGA'....
>>
>>768248670
if you're rich or feel your life is improved by blocking immigration and deporting people, sure.
if not, you're just delusional if you think trump is making things better for you
>>
>>768261367
Because roughly %50 of that 91% is probably fake
>>
>>768260973
Alright, I'll give you food, I pulled that one outta my ass and it turns out it's slightly cheaper now; but c'mon, everything else costs more. Are houses really that much better, no. Slap some AC on a 1920s house and it goes for just as much as a comparable house built 10 years ago.
And just look at how angry you are right now, you'd be more civil in a real life face to face conversation, which kind of lends credit to my opinion that the way we use electronics is unhealthy and in no way beneficial to quality of life.
It's like when the TV was invented, the dude thought it would be such a great learning education tool, and it is. But 99% of the way it's actually used is just mindless entertainment, keeping the sheep docile. It's not far fetched to think our smart phones and ubiquitous internet aren't working in our favor in the big scheme of things.
>>
>>768261549
>blocking immigration and deporting people
blocking ILLEGAL immigration and deporting CRIMINALS
ftfy

btw: why has the Democrat Party NEVER introduced a bill that abolishes all immigration laws and eliminates all border patrol?

when is illegal immigration OK?

yeah we live in a house built in the 1976 and the AC looks like it too, its MASSIVE, and we pay 1100 a month in rent, this is not worth it.

>>768261977
dude he's doing plenty to reduce legal immigration too.

bullshit, trying to teach history with just a chalkboard and a good teacher isnt going to get you anywhere, and youre not going to really be able to connect them to what going on in the world. Which do you think has more of an impact? Me showing the class a video of the horrible things going on in syria or me talking about it? Half of them would be asleep 5 minutes in if i just try to explain. A good bit of this technology is helpful in the classroom. Of course not all is, but there does need to be some trial and error along the way, not just "we had a chalkboard and we did fine"
>>
>>768262349
"Half of them would be asleep"
Not with a good teacher! That's my point, the most important thing in a classroom is the teacher, keeping kids engaged and responsive is a skill, a hard skill to learn and master.
If there's an excess of money, by all means, get ipads and stuff, but when you can't even attract skilled teachers with the pitiful salaries you have to offer, the money being invested should go to teacher salaries.
A matter of prioritization.
>>
>>768259750
now wait a second man..

the dude you responded to wasn't saying anything about quality of life. He was talking about the wage gap between the top 1% and the bottom 99%

I agree with you on a majority of what you said. No argument on almost all of it. But you got the wages thing all wrong. Wages over the past 30 or so years have been outpaced by inflation year over year almost without fail. Except for the top. In the 70's and 80's the average CEO made somewhere between 4 and 25 times more than the other 99%. the average for the past decade remains the same for most private small companies (under 200 employees). But for the top 272 of the fortune 500 companies, CEO compensation is over a million bucks a year, and 300% to 1100% higher than the other 99%, which for some damn reason is an average of everyone else, including all of the other "C-suite" execs.

Dude, wages for the top 1% have increased at a rate about 3 times greater than the rate of inflation, but that rate is also about 900% higher than the wages for the average 99%. All of this is public information that must be reported, thanks to Dodd-Frank.

Pay inequality might not be as heinous as it is in places like the UK (the gender gap is .. gah), or in the third world. But there should be no question in anyone's mind that the rich are indeed getting richer, and it's because everyone else is working harder to make comparatively less and less.

i was watching some interviews with trump supporters. without fail, every single one of them said they liked how he was doing because of something outright false, something they think benefits them when it really hurts them, something he keeps saying he'll do but hasn't, or just because they're pissed off at the left

i've yet to find a single person who supports him that isn't stupid or malicious
>>
>>768262560
yes even with a good teacher. Getting kids engaged isnt always about the teacher. Often good relevant content is just as important to them. If a kid cant see why any of this matters to them, or is impacting other people in a big way then they will often tune out almost immediately. Standing up there preaching is proven to turn a good many students out. Exactly why i would start many lessons with a video or something relevant to the daily news or what we were talking about that day.
>>
>>768248670
>Has Donald Trump improved the lives of ordinary Americans? After all, the measurement of the effectiveness of any leader of a state is quantified by the overall improvement of the quality of life of said state's constituents.

No, but allow them to think that their lives have been changed.
>>
Trump has already successfully pushed an agenda that allows the top 1% to get even more 1%-ier

that's all that matters. The only question is whether new policies survive the next election cycle
>>
>>768262897
Oh my god dude, you're not listening.
A good teacher CHOOSES the content, content tailored to engage and teach the kids. A good teacher gets the kids to understand how it impacts them, why they should care, a good teacher DOESN'T preach, they get conversations going...

that's profit sharing, that's not a salary. that is not the norm, much less a practice that affects the majority of wage-earners. That is a value-adding benefit in working for a company that offers profit sharing. I'm not even sure if that counts towards the ambiguous catch-all of the word "compensation" since it's something that is never guaranteed.

My towns non-essential businesses are no longer drowning. Before Trump, nobody had money for Timmy to play hockey and Tina was shit out of luck when it came to gymnastics. Some great athletes were lost during those 8 years. I'm not saying my town was producing Olympic athletes and NHL players but they were sending kids to college on scholarships. Since Trump, athletic enrollment is up in the private sector of my town (hockey and gymnastics).

And just in case you think that is not a big deal, then you are thinking too small. Parents put kids in sports and now they need to travel, parents buy a new vehicle so the car dealership has benefitted. That story could go on forever.

Socially, student athletes generally develop outstanding social skills and a great work ethic. That translates to the real world in a real way. Just those two skills alone can increase chances of promotions over the next person. So now, 20 years from the day Trump entered office, there will be a surge in the workforce that will outclass its previous 8 year mini-generation.
>>
>>768262783
yeah it's late for me and I was responding to more than one post.

CEOs that make alot of money are executives of companies that generate billions in revenues. Most of those companies are publicly owned and their salaries are public info.

I don't thing making any type of rule that would cap their salaries would affect the salaries of the other employees. Probably just increase dividends by a few cents.

But the real issue would be the rule governing the salary of any individual. Kinda commie
>>
>>768250073

>>
>>768263642
I dunno man, can you back up that outstanding social skills/work ethic thing?
The athletes I can think of from high school are the same ones who are still working shitty jobs now, or they're the girls who got knocked up young.
Could be you're spot on and that's just my abnormal high school, but I'm curious where you get that?
>>
>>768261497
that's actually a really solid, if unfortunate, point my dude.
>>
>>768263110
If i only have a chalkboard and nothing else, i have no choice but to begin the lesson by preaching somewhat. Most of these kids arent going to walk into a classroom and know exactly what is going on, then immediately start contributing to discussions. They need to be presented the content in a way that engages them, with many students learning in different ways. (video, audio, reading, writing, hell even music) To be honest all the things that need to be taught in the classroom arent that interesting. That doesnt mean that we just shouldnt teach it. If you only pick awesome content for your students then your failing them by leaving out some of the most important and core concepts of the material
>>
>>768262897
videos were always nice. I knew nobody would ask any questions and i could think about whatever i had in mind that day. The only difficulty was not falling a sleep or at least waking up in time.
>>
>>768263877
feel like this is a cliche more than anything. A lot of athletes i know can point to the fact that they have good social and networking skills and it leads to them being able to better communicate with other employees and voice they needs and concerns better. It doesnt matter how smart you are if you cant effectively tell the next person in line what youre thinkning

There are ways of presenting "not all that interesting" stuff and making it interesting, it just takes a good teacher, which unfortunately many americans never experience. You probably think this stuff is not all that interesting because you had shitty teachers.
There are also ways of engaging kids in conversations incrementally, building up, knowledge on knowledge. Clearly they can't expect kids to walk in the door ready for doctorate level discussions on the geopolitical climate preceding america's secession from britian.
This is my whole point, it's HARD to do these things, it takes skill, time, hard work and education. You can't just throw some ipads at schools and call it good. As long as we don't value teachers and hold them to higher standards our education system won't be so great.
>>
>>768250944
>accepting the american "1% rich, 99% slaves" mindset?
its funny that you think this is an "American" mindset when foreigners are the largest demographic of small business owners. and they'll surely work their way up the ladder faster than anyone who believes the black-and-white mindset of the 1% vs the 99%. your toxic mindset is poisoning Americans. that's ok for me though, that means less competition for my business where i'm earning "only" within the top 15% when i go to file my taxes.
>>
>>768264214
eh, depends on the type of video. if its some old vhs youve been playing for years, yeah that wont get you far. If you pick something that you know the stuents will find interesting and builds on wht youre learning or have learned or especially something going on in the world today it can be really helpful. A good deal of this though comes from knowing your students and how they will respond to things. Also, not a bad idea to tweak things as you go along from class to class and year to year
>>
I have more money on my paycheck after his tax plan. So thats good.

On the other hand i cant see Gook Nukem wanting to nuke Commiefornia anymore, so that sucks.
>>
>>768264408
getting kids to willing contribute to discussions is hard enough when they already dont want to be there most of the time. I agree with you on valuing teachers higher, but taking all their technology away from them and telling them they just "need to be better teachers" isnt going to work either. Most things in a classroom today have been proven to help, not hurt, but then again im someone who thinks we spend way too much on the military when that money could be better spend elsewhere
>>
>>768264444
Sure, we're not quite there yet, but we're well on the way.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_inequality_in_the_United_States
Other people have already pointed it out, but wealth is being increasingly funneled into fewer hands. You're down in the 15%, that's great for now, but things keep going like they're going... 30 years from now you'd be a brokeass.
Better claw your way up into that 1%. So many poor people accept the mindset too, believing they're inferior because they didn't:
A.Get born into wealth
B.Spend most of their youth/middle years working crazy hours on startup business/whatever to get rich
Wish we could be like those happy Scandinavian countries where everyone has a basic education, but then can also choose to be a simple cabby or something without being considered a lazy sub human.
>>
>>768263718
completely agree with you on that. Honestly, I really think the most that info is meant for is so investors can make better informed decisions, and maaaybe a smart employee or union can use it as a bargaining chip for wage negotiations.

But you hit the nail on the head about capping wages. In my opinion, the only rules governing salary should be minimum wage, and that should be set in stone to change every X years by Y rate. But even that should only exist as much as is absolutely necessary in order to protect the "little guy" from unscrupulous people. While I think the "tax burden" should also shift to the tax payers with the income that can support it the best, I think attempting to govern anyone's salary is politically suicidal.

literally nobody wants anything to happen to america. EVERYONE relies on the fitness of the US economy in one way or another. Every country that has two rupees to rub together has money invested somewhere in america. And I won't even bother trying to figure out who owns property where...
and I will bet real money that at least 99.995% of the world population has eaten american food, and at least 2/3 of the population directly or indirectly relies on american produced staples like corn and soy.

Only the wackos and so-poor-they're-driven-bonkers want to actually do any harm to the US. US citizens are on their own, but it's in everyone's best interest to protect the american dollar

To be honest, that cliche kind of exists in my town too but only with football players. But they may work hard labor jobs but they still usually carry that work ethic. When I was in high school I worked at KFC and my manager was one of those types. Sure, he didn't make great life choices but he brought great work ethic to the store. And I worked at a few other food places throughout school and nobody matched him.

My day to day life is pretty much unchanged from 2 years ago.

I won't see the effects of a lot of this shit until a few more years down the road.

I'm just above poverty line so deductions make a good bit of difference. The tax cuts don't offset the loss of individual deductions. I end up using personal funds for my work (I work in public education) and the decrease in federal funding to states for various programs will hurt in the end.

Main thing I'm worried about is the deficit and how it'll be dealt with in the future. Either services must be cut drastically or taxes must be raised. The budget didn't cut enough to make up for the tax cuts and a spiraling deficit doesn't bode well. If Repubs remain in control and coalesce it sure as shit won't be tax raises, so if they actually care about decreasing the deficit and balancing the budget they're gonna have to make cuts.

And when I say services, I'm not talking about muh welfare. I mean schools, maintenance of roads, just basic services that let society run. Corporate profits are shooting up but it really hasn't helped me at all. Prices aren't cheaper for anything where I live, be it goods or services or things like car or medical insurance. I'm more than a little worried about increasing gas prices since I have to drive quite a ways (I live in the south and in a place where mass transit isn't exactly an option)

As of 2018 my taxes will go down significantly, that's a great improvement.

Hostilities with North Korean are coming to an end.

Corrupt intelligence bureaucracies are being cleaned out by the day.

Pretty good so far imo. Still 2 years to go too.

>>768248670
Actually yes. The tax reform helped but the big thing is his Twitter account. Whenever he would tweet about a company or business the stock would tank, after a couple weeks people realize it's no big deal and the stock climbs back up to original market value. He's great for private investors like myself. When people get rid of the "I exist therefore I deserve" mentality, you can do amazing things and I think that, for someone with only business experience and not politics, he's doing fine.
>>
>>768267260

To be fair, I couldn't afford healthcare at all before Obama. It's not great healthcare I'm getting at the moment, pretty much just cuts my co-pay in half and makes my medicine less expensive (hi2u epilepsy), but it's better than i could before.

and before you mention it, I work. it just pays like ass and doesn't offer benefits. on the private market i was fucked and lived for years without insurance because it was either buy medicine or pay premiums.

with my income now, i just forgo a tax return and have a $0 premium that helps me get to the doctor and afford my medicine.

No. If I incur all the investment and risk I damn well better be seeing 8 figures if my business does well enough. No one is forcing the secretary in this situation to work at the company either. That's the beauty of a competitive, capitalistic economy. Don't like your job? Pay sucks? Work somewhere else.

Average executive officer salary is 6 figures, not 8, so I figured you meant to say owner. Either way, why does it matter? Why would I pay someone with no applicable skills other than answering phone calls and setting appointments? I can do that from my phone. Again, using the secretary example - why would I pay someone a salary for a job that's going to be done by machines in a few years? Makes no sense.

>>
>>768270268
the better question is why the fuck do you think your job is worth being paid more than 20x more? you're a better worker, highly skilled and educated, and therefore make twenty fucking times as much as that secretary. but you're not doing anything that's so valuable that your workers should live in poverty so you can be compensated 200x or 2000x instead of 20x.
pay the lowest people 50k per year, that means you're already making $1mil per year. that's a fucking fortune, and whatever you're doing, it's not worth that much more, and if it is, your company then ought to be so successful you can pay a higher base salary. and conversely, if you're only able to pay $20k per year, well you don't deserve more than the $400,000 limit in that case either
there's no excuse other than pure unadulterated greed to say 20x isn't enough
>>
>>768270268
compensation of the average CEO of a publicly traded company with at least 250 full time employees on payroll is greater than half a mil. In that same group, the average difference in pay between the CEO and everyone else in the company is 300:1. Privately owned companies, to my knowledge, don't have to report the data necessary to compute, but the ones that do average a pay ration of >= 25:1

Glassdoor and several other organizations have more than proven that companies with the smallest wage gaps between CEO and everyone else have the most satisfied employees. The SEC and several other organizations have overwhelmingly proven that the companies with the smallest wage gaps and the most satisfied employees are also the best performers on the market, and by extension the smartest picks for investors.

Think about it like this: Employee satisfaction is most important to retention, obviously, right? On average, for every $10k/yr that an employee makes, it costs a company around $2k to train a replacement when said employee leaves. So would you rather have a 40% turn-over that costs your company a $1M/yr (figuring 400 ppl at avg $60k/yr) that looks hella unstable to investors, not to mention shit quality... or would you rather give all your people a 3% raise for no damn reason, which costs your comp like $750k once, and your retention and quality and desireability go through the roof?

also, >>768270656 probably said it better than I did...
