Yea I feel you. Sometimes employers will straight up respect you if you tell them from the outset. I moved to one town for just a couple of months after being manager in a city for a year or two and just wanted a change from the stress. Straight up explained the situation and told her that I only wanted to work part-time, I didn't want any stress or drama and that I was thinking of moving in 3 months and she was totally cool with it. Even told me down the line that she was blown away that I came forward with that shit.
It gives managers time to plan on looking for and training a replacement or they can give someone else who needs it a month off to travel or whatever.
Or you can just do the old "WOW I got this scholarship out of nowhere, I have to go!!" or "zomg family emergency, grandma died g2g" and it would be less shitty than just straight up quitting after a month.

With places like Qtown and Nelson they're expensive because limited landspace. There's not a lot of space to grow. Plus they're exploding in population like everywhere else in the country because Kiwis have stopped leaving for Australia and foreigners (like me) are flooding in and causing strain.
Wanaka is booming because it takes all Qtowns slack. Plus it's a decent spot in itself.
NZ suffers just like we do from Chinese nationals coming in and buying everything up. Means in the big towns and tourist places they've effectively stopped locals from being able to afford decent 1st homes.
I've heard in 2002 you could buy a good house in Queenstown for about $240k, now it's entry level $750k.
If you're thinking Nelson I'd recommend places like Mapua, Takaka, Collingwood. They're small AF but real chill and excellent access to outdoors.
People rave about Motueka but imo it's a shithole. Full of druggies. Think Nimbin.

Can't even work there unless you have a uni degree and are already employed when you arrive, job is obligated to get you a house and pay for your commutes, cities/towns designed from the outset to house lots of people in a small space (town i'm visiting right now is 30,000ppl and it's like 2km across) and they forbid selling all property to foreigners. All land, buildings, houses and property there is 100% owned by a Japanese person.
Australia used to be a cool place and the nature always will be stunning but the country itself is just a shitshow now. I just want to go back but I can't, so gunna settle for a chill life in the mountains in NZ instead.
