I think people are generally good, as is human nature. I believe that, even in base instinct, humans generally try to reduce their own strife and increase their own pleasure the best they can as their most basic goal, and most humans have the empathy to recognize everybody else is just trying to do the same, and thus will usually try to either leave others to that goal, or at best help each other out in that goal, be it with companionship, mutual agreements, etc.
Sometimes I worry about the 21 century, and the rapid shift of the generally agreed upon human morals and values, but I think these rules are generally good, and we'll adapt just as we always have.
