I used to go to the library when I was a kid and it was kinda heartbreaking to not be able to find some book you really wanted to read. I never really spent time playing outside with friends because I grew up in an isolate place so I played by myself.
Can't really criticize videogames becase I grew up with them, from the pong consoles to atari VCS all the way to PCs I spent most of my life with a computer and my generation is probably responsible for this.
I do miss the time before the internet and cellphones, when you wouldn't spend your time checking social media every 5 minutes and you would plan what you would do for the next day, and then you'd do it without having to check things online every time you thought about something new. You'd just spend your day the best that you could without thinking "it could have been better".
You also didn't have to compare yourself to others constantly, you knew everybody was different and had a different cultural/intellectual background and it was fine.

We decided to go to prom together and I ended up ditching her there to go see a punk show. I feel bad for that now.

Having watched a lot of old VHS tapes of my older brothers and sisters growing up in the early-mid 80s, they definitely had it much better.
Mid to late 90s were okay from my point of view, especially considering how kids born during the birth of iPhone are all fucked up, social media dependent, phone zombies. It's much easier for them to become reclusive and self-entertained then during my upbringing. At least with the older game consoles, before online matchmaking really caught on, there were plenty of 2-4 player games and you could actually get the neighborhood have a get together.
