I don't think it's a matter of an inability to pronounce rather than a natural evolution of language. For example, let's take the word "diddler." You've probably been hearing people saying "did" lately. "Did" is a slangterm referring to "diddler" at the end of the day. It's easier to pronounce, ultimately.
