This movie is exactly what it should be. The alternate ending was that Aliens come and take Johnny away. Extrapolating this, you can see that this is a movie about how a group of bodysnatchers take over a group of friends and try and appoximate human behavior.
Only Johnny succeeds in mimicing human behavoir by falling in love with fellow bodysnatcher Lisa. He cant comprehend this human emotion, however, so he kills himself. In this he is finally human.
Truly a masterpiece.

Burn After Reading was, next to The Lady Killers, one of the Coen Brothers' worst films. That's not to say it was bad, or not entertaining, but rather that it wasn't nearly as good. Especially in the face of The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, O Brother Where Art Thou, A Serious Man, or Fargo.

I think the main problem most people have with Apocalypse Now was its pacing. There are large sections of the movie that drag. Its made worse by the 30 hour Redux version which I am sure is all a lot of people have seen.
