what do you guys think of this? its a mask from the onondaga in central new york. theres some weird traditions where you have to like keep a mask and feed it and keep it hidden to get rid of curses. just thought you might find it interesting.
>>
>>767892565
how do you feed a mask?
this interesting to me.
>>
>>767892565
Id feed it my cock and leave it with that stupid smug grin of satisfaction
>>
>>767892697
>Return
you're supposed to like offer them food, i've never done it before but from what i understand you're supposed to offer them food and tobacco and keep them hidden from people.
>>
>>767892565
This is unironically the best thread on /b/ right now but of course every fucking faggot on this board ignores it in favour of dwelling on the repulsive mud that is trap threads and related shite.
>>
>>767892981
Makes sense considering most of the native cultures that use tobacco see it as a way of directing and redirecting energies. Do you know what do the masks represent anon?
>>
>>767893166
well as far as i know thats usually something the mask maker tells the person who needs the mask to get rid of a curse, its all supposed to be a pretty secret affair
>>767893074
well thanks /b/ro
>>
I've only ever heard the name of the masks said and not written down but they are called hutdewie or hukdewie masks
>>
I dont wanna get 404'd so im gunna keep posting about onondaga
so on the rez guys call eachother gun and gunnat, it meens penis in onondaga and its a pretty fun thing to say. you use it like you'd use dude or man
>>
i've also only heard this word said but the word for white person in onondaga is hucksanie, kind of a similar word to the masks
>>
theres a legend/ story about little people in onondaga, they're supposed to be like the size of mice and if you see them you're not supposed to acknowledge them or they'll do bad shit like curse you or something
>>

if theres any one still here i have more
john lennon and yoko ono came to the rez in 1972 to protest the highway with the onondaga
>>
the chiefs are actually supposed to answer to the clan mothers in onondaga culture, women have a big role but for some reason arent supposed to play lacrosse or even touch a traditional wooden stick
>>
>>767892565
Dios mio goblino
>>
the word for lacrosse in onondaga means creators game and it would be between two huge mobs of guys and the idea was that the creator liked it the rougher you played.
>>
this is probably gunna 404 but i think someone might find it interesting
onondaga is one of the only sovereign nations out of all the native american nations
>>
theres a buffalo field on the onondaga rez. its crazy to see a buffalo get killed. the buffalo field is almost hidden but you can find it
>>
theres a little over 2000 people living on the rez and not may more onondagas that live off of it. not too many left and its a pretty poor rez that is hard to want to stay on and hard to leave
>>

>>
alright since this is going down again
ill just say that there is an old abandoned runway at the line of the onondaga rez that has a junk yard at the beginning of it and a hanger farther down and it goes for about a quarter mile. its pretty weird
>>
>>767896062
thank you, i could answer questions about any of this stuff if anyone wants
>>
i've got nothing better to do so heres more
onondaga people take lacrosse really seriously, its a big part of the culture, guys literally get a little stick when they are born.
>>
theres a rez school but it only goes up to 6th grade, then you have to go to the school in the closest town. the school used to be one of the schools you would get whipped for speaking onondaga and they wanted to un-native you. it didn't change till the 70's
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEbvX9hfBGY
thats a video of the cops coming on to the rez (the part on the highway) and beating up a bunch of onondaga protesters who were not wanting the smoke shop to have to pay taxes to the government. pretty crazy stuff
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgM3b4fni9Y
there are belts that are really sacred to the onondaga and new york state refuses to give them back
>>
not trying to annoy anyone who doesnt care, i just wanna share
theres a dam on the rez thats basically not doing anything at this point other than being huge and a place to party
>>
>>767892565
So have you been out there or just researching?
>>
i know it lame to want attention, im just board with porn threads and bait threads, i just wanna have some interesting experiences on /b/. sorry to complain and be a little bitch, just trying to help make this place a little better
>>
>>767897907
Im half onondaga and have lived on and near the rez for 20 years, i just wanna share what i've learned
>>
>>767894622
This story interests me. More plz.
>>
this one is a little less interesting but here you go
theres a back road on the rez they call 13 curves and its supposed to be haunted because of all the crashes that happen on it really its just a road with 13 really really sharp turns people drive on really fast
>>
Syracuse fag living in Onondaga county here. Give me the details and I will go and steal the voodoo mask.
>>
>>767898165
Ok cool. I find the mask thing interesting. Whats with the curses though, who places them and why, typically?
>>
>>767897954
Absolutely agree anon. Thanks for making this place a little bit less shit
>>
>>767898235
... I am asking because there's a story in South Texas and Northeastern Mexico about Mala Cosa, a small bearded person that appears at night to terrorize people by taking their guts out and then putting them back in.
>>
>>767898235
well onondaga is a really superstitious culture and there are a lot of ghost stories and legends. The little people are supposed to be like omens of something thats gunna happen to you. if you tell anyone about seeing them youll get the curse or punishment, if you dont say anything you're supposed to be fine.
>>
>>767892565
I'm not an overly superstitious person, but I'd be leery of messing with another culture's voodoo. It's one thing to be like a white guy that's really into something like Norse/Roman/Celtic mythology. Things that belong to us.

But I don't think anyone should be using voodoo or some type of magic from other cultures. If there are spirits, entities, or gods of any sort; I'm pretty sure the Native American/African entities do not look favorably upon white people.

This is no joke, I used to be really fascinated by the occult growing up and particularly those African/Indian voodoo masks and relics. I bought a Navajo spirit mask out of high school and I think the fucking thing was haunted, I would get a bad vibe even being around it and I'd have nightmares where an entity bearing that face was haunting me.
>>
>>767898514
Anf they are the size of mice? I think this is very interesting. Do they have a name in your rez?
>>
>>767898320
well people say witches put do the cursing but i dont know the onondaga word for witch. Basically if you're mad at someone you get a witch to curse them and if youre cursed you get mask maker to make you a mask.
>>
>>767898571
But when you say messing around do you mean in a playful way or in a serious manner?
>>
>>767898571
fair man, im onondaga and im not dont believe in the supernatural aspects of the culture, i just wanna share information with people who wanna read it
>>767898619
I dont have a native name, i didnt get one, my family isn't really into practicing the culture, but i find it really interesting
>>
>>767898762
Either. I'm a very rational person for the most part, but I do believe some things can happen that are outside explanation by any rational means. Things can be imbued with a certain type of power and once they are, they're *not* to be used outside their intended purpose and only to be used what they're intended for. Such relics should not be owned by "collectors" or foreigners (to that group's religion culture), and if they are.... well, bad shit can happen.
>>
>>767898979
that doesn't mean people cant learn about it. secrets dont help anyone
>>
>>767898619
sorry misread that, im not sure the onondaga name for them but they call the the little people
>>
>>767898571
I can verify this to be truthful in some ways.

There's an old hacienda (Spanish plantation) my ancestors used to own like 100+ years ago... for centuries. When my family no longer lived there, the people who remained living there were killed by angry people who were fed up of them.

During the last hundred years people have said it is one of the most haunted places. People who report this are mainly treasure hunters, peasants, tourists, drifters and such.

I have visited the place twice. Its main house, its church, everything... and all of it seems so peaceful to me, almost inviting -- like the sensation we get of being home.

Actually leaving the place was painful for me. But apparently for the rest of the people is a place of untold terror, dreadful apparitions and such.

It is so hunted that people havent had the chance to make it a museum.
>>
>>767898979
This is one of the reason natives in Mexico "killed" sacred objects by ritually breaking it in order not to be used again.
>>
theres basically only one guy left on the rez making actual wooden sticks the traditional way, i believe he has a son who he taught how to make them but there the only ones doing it anymore
>>
i've interacted with alot of pieces onondaga culture and nothings happened yet, don't worry guys its fine
>>
Nice thread OP, really interesting compared to 98% of the threads. Bump for you!
>>
>>767899863
thank you, heres some more hopefully interesting info for you
the onondaga traditions say that there was a race of sky people before the earth was formed and that a woman fell through the clouds into the water and met up with a bunch of animals. they start diving into the water to try to find dirt to plant on the turtles back but they all keep dying. finally a one of the animals floats back up with dirt in its hand and the plant it on the turtle and the earth grows. and the woman has twins that are the embodiment of good and evil. hell of a creation myth
>>
Bump
>>
if i get one thing out of this thread other than sharing the information with you please let it be that some of you will start saying gun or gunnat like dude and man, its just a really fun thing to say and i think its a really interesting and funny part of the language
>>
I said this in an earlier post but if you didnt see it, theres two water spouts that are constantly pouring out fresh water that people on the rez who dont have running water use for their water.
>>
onondaga lake is the most polluted lake in america and is really important to the onondaga. the city of syracuse emptied a shit load of mercury and other shit into it back in the day and now its fucked
>>
>>767900718
makes me sad to see how this country treats the remaining native people, anon. good thread
>>
>>767900859
it is, but thats america, heres some more
not only is the lake destroyed but the creek the goes through the rez that used to be the place the onondaga would fish is now completely contaminated with silt from mud boils down stream. the mud boils are due to mining in tully (south of the rez) and they cant really be fixed now.
>>
there is supposed to be a hidden cave somewhere behind the firekeepers diner (just off the highway on the rez) and its allegedly cursed and white people arnet supposed to be able to find it. i've never gone looking for it myself
>>
since onondaga is a sovereign nation the only law enforcement with authority on it are the feds, if youre on the rez you can sit on the line and wave to a cop on the other side smoking a joint and blow it at them. its pretty funny
>>
i also posted this in another thread but here it is
if you're mom isnt white you arent considered native to the onondaga and you dont get to go to long house and participate in the religion.
>>
do you guys want more?
>>
alright unless this goes back up ill leave you with the onondaga word for shit. again ive only heard it said, its oatdot ot ouhtdot hopefully you got something out of this thread
>>
>>767902399
*oatdot or ouhdot
>>
>>767892565

Native Americans predicted niggers
>>
There's a good amount of people on the Rez who's cars aren't don't have plates so if the need to drive off the Rez they borrow other people's plates, I did that once, it was scary as shit
