Been in country a week. First mission flying what is basically a Piper Cub. Observe and photograph. Partner had a year in country.

I was flying in supplies to a village and had to land on a narrow dirt road (not uncommon). Set down and was rolling out and the tailwheel hit a landmine. Luckily, it was slow to detonate and at the speed I was going I was probably 30 ft away when it blew. Put a few holes in the tail but no serious damage. Unloaded shit and had to take off on the same section of road. Scared the shit out of me thinking there were more mines so I wouldn't even taxi back, turn around, and take off into the wind. So I just hit the throttle, rolled out with the wind at my back, got off the ground as quickly as I could and barely missed a few trees as I was climbing out. Had some leaves lodged in the wheels when I landed but I'd swear that I never touched those trees.
