They need restructuring. In my city alone 40% of homicides go unsolved . But they have no problem harassing everyone else for a seat belt violation . I'm also tired of the "for my safety" line . An officer's safety is second to the public's. That's kind of the job . I've never seen a fireman refusing to run into a burning building to try and save someone . But it's ok for police to wait outside a school with an active shooter .

Fuck the police. All my cars are antique and I get harassed weekly about dumb shit like ride height, exhaust or not having a third brake light. Even when I calmly explain it is an antique and give them rego they still try to charge me. been to court 6 times for cases that got dropped immediately because the officer didn't know the law. Lack of training becomes a waste of money. Besides this I was a 13B in the army. We were not allowed to fire at anyone unless first fired at, result would be a court martial. Police get far too much respect demanded by them and the public for effectively taking personal matters and applying them to their position of power, i.e. racism, sexism, prostitution, or what have you, and use that power to justify their actions with biased public opinion. I think cops consist of two types of people. One type has some superhero-complex and wants the save the world, the other type is people who were bullied and made fun of in high school.
Being a cop and having a badge is their way of taking back control and trying to get the respect they never got when they were younger. In short, they take out their bitterness on anyone who crosses their path.
For the most part, both types get an us-versus-them mentality at some point and start to view all non-cops as evil scumbags.
When they pull you over or want to talk to you, they don't care about the truth or even if you are innocent. They view it as their job to stack the odds against you and to build a case for the prosecution.
I have seen cops lie on the stand more than most people would believe, but I have also seen them withhold and suppress evidence that could prove that a defendant was innocent.
Even if you are 100 percent innocent, a trained detective could trick you into saying something that would get you convicted if you go to trial.
For those who are guilty, they will try to hit them with way worse charges than they deserve.
They use absurdly long sentences to con people into taking a plea deal.
They will smile and tell you that they want to help, but they are looking for reasons to put you away. When a cop asks to search a car, you never have a valid reason to let them.
They are basicly asking if they can look for reasons to lock you up, cause you to lose your job and cause a range of other problems.
The ones who start with good intentions often become worse than the people they want to put away.
Many of the innocent people who were later exonerated because of irrefutable evidence were convicted because of a false guilty plea. The system collects as much evidence as possible and threatens to railroad them if they go to trial and lose, but they get a "good" deal.
That is the unavoidable nature of an adversarial justice system.
