Look up Alan Watts videos. Learn to become at peace with the knowledge that you, your whole life, everyone you've ever known, it all literally comes form nothing. You are one of the many amazing things that just happen. New universes will bang into existence with another you; same thoughts, same consciousness, the same life but maybe you for example chose a different bus route and led you to new experiences and new people, a different version of your life. So you and your potential never fades. When you close your eyes one last time, you become nothing, but you always were nothing. Nothingness isn't anything to fear. Non existence isn't an experience, one shouldn't fear death as a dark, infinite void. This all just happens and it will happen again.

I’m not that guy but I’ve been coming here for about 10 years. Back then /b/ was still mostly underground, someone inevitably challenge me on that statement but it’s true. That doesn’t mean a lot of people didn’t browse, it just means that most of the people were the same people day in and day out. So, just like any other cult, /b/ had its own culture and memes. It was more like a club where if you didn’t know the lingo or get the jokes you probably didn’t enjoy being here.
These days /b/ is just an open invitation for any random asshole to anonymously make a thread about how they hate their life or ask a meaningless question they’re too inept to ask anyone else. That’s all in between the innumerable amount of porn threads, half of which are about traps or cum eating. It wasn’t always like that. There are still the classics, YLYL, gore, R34, etc, but the main difference is just the culture. Instead of being a club of obscure memes or a safe place to post edgy content, /b/ is just a place the public comes to say things anonymously and there’s almost no cohesion between anyone or anything.

Been aware for twenty years
After a while it goes from a shrieking panic in your mind down to a yell, then down to a thrumming, loud noise and eventually down to a low, dull hum that persists through every single thing you do and say, the knowledge that any single thing could be your last-- that nature can decide at any time to pull your plug. There is even a subset of conditions alluding to totally random, unexpected death.
You really just get by by realizing death is really the only way life would be any good. The idea that it ends gives it... levity, some sort of relief in the mire.
Or maybe that's just me.

Social media killed the entire internet. What else is new?
Everyone wants to be able to say "NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER" without being fucking lynched by people twice their size, but they all want to get UPDOOTS and LIKES and THUMBUPS for it, so they can be socially elevated or something.
If you want to point fingers, point at ourselves. We could have prevented this. This was the natural order of the internet... we all got our kicks acting like total fucking morons, so now we're surrounded by total fucking morons who think this is where they belong.
It is, but not in the way they think or act.
Or maybe it is, I don't really know anymore.
As for the porn I wish you cunts would stop bitching about that. I've been getting my porn from /b/ for actual years, I was a teen and not legal to drink when I started. Porn has been around /b/ forever, the only reason it seems 'innumerable' now is because the rest of /b/'s content left with its creators who saw all the teenagers everywhere and realized the sad, unfortunate truth about /b/:
We're just too old for this shit anymore.

No. Back in the day it was a mortal sin to talk about /b/. Rules 1 and 2 my dude. The majority of us wanted to keep it a secret so that we wouldn’t get flooded with roodypoos shitting up the fun. It’s inevitable that eventually the word will get leaked to the public and we’ll get flooded, so there’s nothing we can really do about that. It’s not our fault that culture from other sites bled into ours.
>porn threads
First of all, I didn’t say the porn threads were a bad thing, I just said there used to be a time when porn threads were 10% of the threads and not 80% like it has been for several years. Also, don’t try to justify it with a lame excuse of “wah when I first started browsing I couldn’t get porn anywhere else” because that’s fucking bullshit and you fucking know it. Porn has been easily accessible on the internet since dial up. If anything, porn is more widely available on the internet now more than ever, which by your logic would mean there should be LESS porn threads, not more. But again, I don’t really care about the porn threads.

Every now and then I do get that feeling of impending doom the sudden realization of knowing someday I will die and nothing can stop it. It seems totally unfair and depressing I try to snap out of it and think of something else. I did notice though that this sets off the fight or flight mechanism atleast with me which can be good in some instances. Like that guy who climbed mount everest in just a pair of shorts or something he could do the same thing. Not saying I could do that but im sure it has its uses wakes me up better than any coffee. But back on topic... To cope with it I notice quite a few people have decided to try DMT or auyaschya or whatever. When we die a massive burst of DMT is released its what we see as "heaven" it also causes our dreams at night. Many people on DMT believe they traverse to alternate worlds/realities and seem so convinced nothing can change their mind. So at some point I will do the same to cope with death you either have to find out and believe there is an afterlife. Or just ignore it and self medicate when you need weed will do you wonders.

How so? I think that when you die you are consciousness but without a personality because that's all created by your brain.
>>767847435
life is not the same without death
>>767854345
But why?
>>767854345
How does consciousness exist without the brain that created it? How does consciousness impart itself without knowledge of being? How is the brain a receiver? How is the body a receiver if consciousness is not received? If you hate your ego or personality so much, why would you ever want to be pure consciousness? Why would you want to be pure ego? Non-existence is not pure consciousness; consciousness is something, there is an agent possessing (pure) consciousness to experience being, not nothing.
And, when I said that bodies being receivers could only be a fact if you were establishing the idea that consciousness/identity lacked any meaningful connection to the brain, you went ahead and suggested that consciousness is created by the brain. There is no way to establish consciousness as it is defined, without acknowledgement of identity of the self in lieu of consciousness being awareness of the self, and the surrounding surroundings. Anything else is not consciousness. Not how you've used it, and not how it is regularly defined.

Because it doesn't need a brain to exist. It just exists. It comes from a dimension we can not measure or understood, or experienced unless we die or take the right drugs. But even then it will show you so much and leave you so overwhelmed that you won't be able to comprehend what you saw.

There's more to existence than meets the eye, but don't take my word for it, read about near death experiences, especially under medical surveillance. People have been flying out of their bodies, and saw things behind closed doors they couldn't possibly have seen (that have been confirmed to be true later), went to the beyond and back to meet with "beings", all while they're brains were basically dead and had no activity.

>read about near death experiences
I am familiar with near death experiences. The majority of what you just said can be explained away more mechanistically than what you've given me. And, a "basically" dead brain is not a brain that can still function. Brain death is not a coma, not a vegetative state. Brain death is the termination of brain function needed, or found, with living people. Even those in a coma. Brain death is akin to tearing up a smooth surface until there is nothing but chunks, and still insisting that a small toy car can travel across it fine without being impeded by or getting stuck in the missing chunks of surface you removed. Brain death is irreversible damage, distinct damage. Like shattering glass as opposed to merely cracking it. Brain death is where your brain stops beating your heart, ceases networking signals representative of conscious thought, and generally being compromised of living cells that are not on their way to also dying. You cannot survive brain death- you cannot survive "basic" brain death. Not today. Zero activity is zero activity, and there is nothing the doctors can do when your cells have died.

I meant like that areas responsible for processing the senses and conscious thinking showed no activity but people still saw things that actually happened. Sometimes the interiors of different buildings in completely different cities. When they came back came back their brains obviously showed little to now damage, otherwise they wouldn't be able to recall their experience.
>>767858665
Exactly. After a while in hell there's no amount of pain or torture that your brain would even bother registering. You'd just be an utterly indifferent piece of flesh. Sure it'd probably take a painful while, but it's not like the pain will be eternal.

Just because it was used for indoctrination doesn't mean it automatically counts as invalid. If humans ever become capable of creating a computer simulation with conscious beings, then we will prove to ourselves that the concept of God isn't exactly far fetched. Maybe there's a God out there no one's ever heard about or written about, that still rules over us and awaits our deaths to send whatever hold our conscience down to some afterlife or whatever.

Death is inevitable, yes. So grab life by the balls and live your story before it's too late and all you can do is try to help the generation before you figure it out sooner.
Also take comfort that no matter how bad things get, you could always just go somewhere else and start fresh.

>areas responsible for processing the senses and conscious thinking showed no activity
If they saw things that happened, and you're trying to imply that the physical nature of the brain is responsible for the processing of the senses, or conscious thinking, when previously you said that consciousness doesn't need a brain to exist.
You said that consciousness doesn't need a brain to exist. It them seems redundant that a brain has parts responsible for processing the senses and conscious thinking itself. Additionally, if they saw things that happened, and the brain is still important somehow in the fashion you just described, then it must be that the parts responsible for processing sensory information and conscious thought were not dead or devoid of activity. The brain is an incredibly powerful tool. I am a witness to that. And I will stress this: brain dead individuals do not recover. They -are- dead. Those in a coma are in a coma, because the brain has suffered damage and shuts itself down in an attempt to heal itself. The worst case scenarios are brain damage. Often, there's little to no damage at all. If your brain is intact, and you're suggesting you need an intact brain to recall experiences, then of course an intact brain would be able to remember things that aren't missing. But you said that consciousness doesn't need a brain to exist. Meaning being aware, being aware of what it is like to be, should not be necessitated by the brain. Thus, the intention "to do" should not be necessitated by the brain as far as the phenomenon described as cognitive processes go. You should be able to remember and witness things when you are "out of your body". With metaphysical consciousness, if the brain is needed for recall, then you need to be experiencing things while you are incapacitated using your brain.
You cite me at least one thorough source depicting someone coming back from being genuinely brain dead.

>If they saw things that happened
If they saw things that happened, and you're trying to imply that the physical nature of the brain is responsible for the processing of the senses, or conscious thinking, when previously you said that consciousness doesn't need a brain to exist, then something is wrong.*
