I don't have to tip.
Waiter has to refill my drink.
If the waiter comes by, a few minutes after I receive my meal, and asks if everything is in order, and refills my drink twice during my stay, they then have done more than their job requires of them. If they don't do extra, why should I pay extra.
Incorrect orders should not be blammed on the waiter either. You typically have subhumans working the kitchen so burnt out from making the same meal over and over that any variation becomes to much for their machinized brain.

The waiter makes minimum wage no matter what. If a waiter doesn't get a single tip in a 2 week pay period, the employer has to pay double on their check. No matter what, the employer needs to make sure that, over a 2 week pay period, the employee's tipping wage + cumulative tips = minimum wage * hours worked. It's federal law.
This means that, at the absolute worst, waiters make as much as the people working 10x as hard in the kitchen. Best case scenario, they make 5x more.
A waiter will never make less than 7.65 an hour, even if they never get tipped, and if you spread this retarded lie then you need to either read up on federal tipping wage laws or kill yourself.

I worked as a cook, and then a waiter at Steak n Shake as a teen. Waiting was pathetically easy, didn't break a sweat, didn't stand over a hot stove, and although I made sure to keep up with my customers, most of the other waiters/waitresses would help a few tables then stand around talking like lazy fuckwits. Meanwhile I made twice what the cooks made, sometimes 3x as much on a good night.
Now I'm a delivery driver for a Panera's in a middle-upper class area, and I make more (averaging my wage+tips over 2 week pay periods) than my fucking general manage.

I personally tip the cook if the meal is exceptionally prepared. I personally tip the staff if their performance and promptness goes above and beyond typical service. I do not pay attention to percentages and only tip what I believe is fair which can include not tipping at all if the service was sub par or the staff negligent.
Tipping in my mind is to promote good behavior. I frequent a bar I love. I tip them well, they know me and thus give me very, very good service. My tip is to encourage that above and beyond service I get there.
If I go to a place and the staff merely needs to hand me my food or a single drink and that's it, no tips. Tips are for service that requires effort, not just because u handed me one beer and then I had to waive u down 15 min later to refill my empty glass that's been sitting on the bar table.
