When I traveled I took up smoking weed mostly because of the social aspect. Cigarette or weed smokers alike are all smokers. You're there in the cold in the alley next to the pub for 5min, may as well strike up a conversation and get to know the people you're next to. You'd be surprised how well it works. Not advocating taking up smoking though, but you could even get a vape and pretend like it's got nicotine in it and you're trying to quit.
