My problem was never lack of social contact per se. I never found it that hard to just chat up women (especially when alcohol was involved) and I found myself involved in enough conversations that I should have improved. The problem is: I didn't. I didn't mature in my social persona while my peers did.
There are some people whose only problem is that they had a bad start. They were socially isolated in high school and never had the opportunity to progress socially. I was the opposite, I had a great start and just sucked at it.
