>>767654230 People like you are scum of the universe. Human trash. It's amazing how you sit there and demean other people for trying to make a living and minimizing their job to "carrying plates". Something tells me your immature ass has never actually worked a day in the food service industry. Rushing back and forth, dealing with human shit like you, and all for minimum wage. Fuck you moron.
>>767654230 I agree entirely. Tipping is retarded. How did they let the capitalists get so fucked in America... They are allowed to subsidize their workers pay by expecting patrons to tip... pathetic. Only in America could such idiotic practice exist.
>>767654230 So is not eating out. So is not being the worst kind of tightass. I used to deliver pizzas before I got a real job, if you didn't tip we never delivered to you again. If you don't want to tip, move to a country where it isn't customary. If you want to stay here, then stop being an asshole.
>>767655909 Except that the tipping economy makes waiting and bartending capable of paying a living wage. Without tipping servers would make minimum wage and have to work 4 or 5 jobs to survive in most major cities. Tipping is very good for the economy. Its another form of trickle down.
>>767656487 You have heard the stories before. I have seen it first hand. No tip? That's ok, but order that pizza again and truth-be-told some nasty shit was done to it. I am not condoning it and I didn't take part in it, but it was a reality in the service industry.
>>767656695 As long as minimum wage laws exist, no. If you want to keep pretending that the minimum wage even approaches the same universe as a living wage, then enjoy subsidizing the poor. Oh, and by the way, you do the same thing for every full timer that makes minimum wage. Oh, and all this is coming from a staunch capitialist who doesn't want the minimum wage increased. I want it gone. And if you want it to be the job of the establishment, then enjoy your $75 burger.
>>767656859 This is what I am saying. Does anybody think this guy does well in a social setting? Not a chance. We're talking basement dwelling, quart of soda drinking chronic masterbator. Not that there is anything wrong with it
>>767656698 In my ideal world that would be on them to negotiate. As it is now they'd be lucky to make $10/he because the minimum wage law keeps wages low. If you wanted wages to go up, abolish the minimum wage. I actually support tipping fully.
>>767656829 all you are doing with comments like this is reinforcing why no one should tip. otherwise you are saying you're going to hold my food hostage until I pay you the protection money. kinda like the mob. who's the bigger scumbag now?
The service industry is shitty work but so if being a trashman, and I dont fucking tip my garbage boys. You're less than a trashman so I'm definitely not tipping you unless you give me all smiles and refills. Capiche, kiddo?
>>767656912 >$75 burger Would never happen, ever A 1/4th pound burger with all toppings cost less then $5 to make. Buying beef in bulk as well as everythign else in the resturant in bulk, decreases cost. That $5 burger cost is then up marked to $15. Thats 300% profit on each burger sold. Imagine this or higher on everything. That $30 steak? less then $5 resturant cost, yet 600% upmark. Yeah you arent a capatilist Minimum wage needs to exist to reference cost of living and the next real estate bubble. 1 bed room 1 bath costing $1200/month is retarded, and i dont even live in the city
>>767655744 Fake news indeed. Waitstaff are compensated for the difference between their pay and minimum wage if their combined tips and pay do not meet or exceed minimum wage.
Moral of the story, you do a shitty job bringing me my food and I'll try my best to make sure you don't get a cent more than you deserve. That being said, I usually tip 15% if they simply do not piss me off, 20% or more if they did a really good job, and 0% if they ruined my meal with a miserable attitude or bad service. You want a tip? Put in the work to earn it, that's all I ask.
the US never seize to amaze me with their retardedness the shit you willingly endure and even try to justify is ridiculous.
my country (germany) is equally laughable in certain areas, don't you worry - i am aware of that. but compared to us, the "greatest country in the world", "land of the free" is a pathetic shithole. please never stop amusing the rest of the civilized world. we need you for the occasional hearty laugh.
>>767657263 Its called exaggeration you mongoloid. So you propose that if every restaurant became legally obligated to pay their servers what they'd make with tips, which can average as high as 50/hr or better, then there would be absolutely no change to menu prices? Are you high?
>>767657243 so you are saying if I don't pay the "unspoken" extra I'm a thief? When's the last time you went and bought something at a store and the ticket price said 9.99 but when you went to pay the cashier says "oh that's not the full price, it's really 15.99" now pay up or I'm calling security. the restaurants are the real thieves. take this issue up with them and not your paying customers.
>>767657243 So when i buy that burger that has been upmarked 500% or that steak that has been upmarked 1000%, im not paying for the food in full? What is that price next to the food on the menu? Why isnt the owner puttng the full price on the menu then?
>>767655225 ENTERING TIPPING THREAD FOR THE 34198129th TIME TO EXPLAIN TO RETARDS HOW TIPPING AND WAGES WORK:
In several states in the US, employers are required by law to pay employees the state-mandated minimum wage regardless of how many tips that employee received. In some states, this can be as high as $15 an hour, which still has to be paid in addition to tips.
In all the other states, employers are legally obliged to pay employees the state-mandated minimum wage, but they may deduct tips from this amount until they are paying a minimum of ~$3 an hour.
Anyone claiming that people only make $2-3 an hour is either retarded or a liar. It is against the law for anyone to work for you and make less than minimum wage. If an employees tips plus the minimum of ~$3 an employer is allowed to pay tipped employees does not match or go above minimum wage, the employer must make up the difference.
Nobody has ever legally made less money than minimum wage because you decided not to tip. Don't listen to lying faggots.
>>767654230 the cost of food is considerably lower than it would be if servers were paid a decent wage. I am a server and wouldnt be opposed to being paid a livable wage, however that's just not the case in this country. If you go out to eat and take advantage of the competitive pricing, then tip because thats just the nature of the game. its not just about carrying plates, its about providing a dining experience.
>>767657533 I get that we will not be friends. Did you think I was offering up friendship? Is this how we argue a point on /b/. "Oh yeh? well, we're not going to be friends. So there!" OK, anon. I guess you got me, "kiddo" no friendship
>>767657375 And yet you're on an American Anime Imageboard, created by a White American Teenager, hosted on American Servers, on The Internet, an American invention. You just cant stop talking about America can you? When we as Americans never even think of you at all, cept when some jihadist blows you up and we fucking laugh at you when you import 1 million of them every year to rape your landscape.
>>767657431 I'm not a waiter or a restaraunteur. Don't like American customs, then leave. >>767657477 Europe would love to have you. >>767657436 Which is kinda my point in favor of tipping. Imagine your job went from paying you 25/he to 7.50/be. Would you give it your best and tough it out, or would you quit immediately. I know I'd be gone right away. Have fun dining out with no wait staff.
>>767657682 Who is brow beaten? That is the service industry. For folks like you we have McDonalds, where the food is handed to you and you find your own seat. Fact is, /b/ because people don't tip, the money comes in the form of higher taxes, as service workers file for government support. You pay, either way, but at least with tipping, you know your food was not fucked with
>>767657686 well... it's like everywhere else, matey. the dumbest people are usually the loudest and it's not that easy to ignore you when you're mostly fucking things up. and again... we mostly laugh about you anyway.
but okay. you got me there. i use your inventions. oh no. that completely invalidates everything i am and/or say.
>>767657408 They would make a normal wage. $10/hr would be fine for a fresh 1st year waitstaff.$1.00 raise per year up to $15 not including performance reviews. If they are outstanding waitresses i could easily see them being paid $20/hr as senior staff. Cashiers make $7-8/hr first year, they get $0.25/yr raises maybe $0.50 extra a year after peformance review and yet there are way more cashiers then there are waitstaff, and they do a harder job.
Just going to remind everyone that although restaurants are allowed to pay their wait staff less under the assumption they will be tipped in the us, if they don't receive enough tips to make up to their base rate or at least minimum wage the employer has to make up the rest.
In the UK servers are paid what they agree with the employer and then make tips on top of that, which is how a tip is supposed to work. If someone does their job above expectations than you tip them so they are ultimately paid more, paying their wages for the employer is not tipping.
I worked in a car part shop and I had clean up old oily car parts that the customers bring in, work out what it is, find a replacement for them, make sure it fits and then ring up their orders. It could take anywhere from 5 mins to 2 hours, sometimes would have to travel to different stores for them. Once had a Russian dude in the shop for like 4 hours because it was hard to commicate and he needed something really specific that I never heard of before, guess how much I made?
£9 an hour, my normal hourly rate because that was my job.
I always helped people above and beyond what was in my job description (I was a marketing guy) but never got a tip, we weren't even a garage so helping them fit the parts was never my job but I did it anyway beacsue if I can help, I will.
If you don't like serving people get a different job ffs.
>>767657451 False, because overall sales would delcine. Restaurant food is already grossly overpriced. Sale pressure would keep food prices from hyper inflation. The stores would most likely automate their servers with table kiosks or would have less servers on staff.
>>767657717 >Which is kinda my point in favor of tipping. Imagine your job went from paying you 25/he to 7.50/be. Would you give it your best and tough it out, or would you quit immediately. I know I'd be gone right away. Have fun dining out with no wait staff. There is a resturant called Fuddruckers. When you walk in there are 2-3 cashiers depending on how busy it is, you give them your order, they give you as cup,you go get your drink and then seat your self, the cook makes your food and then calls out your number when it is done. You get your food and condiments and refill your drink as needed. No waitstaff at all and i rather eat there and tip the cook who actually fucking cooked my food then some Stacy bitch who demands a 50% tip. I would be fine with this service at EVERY RESTURANT IN THE WORLD. You tip the cook, you know the guy who took your order, maybe a custom order and cooked it perfectly like you like it.But no we tip entitled assholes for carrying plates from point a to point b
>>767658203 Here we go. This is as good as anon can do as a response. Now does anybody think this dude really goes to restaurants? No. McDonalds, Burger King, maybe. But tipping is not something he ever has to do anyway
I always tip the servants around where I live. I may want to use that servant again.
However, if I am travelling and I know I won't be coming back to a place, I never tip the servants.
Why would I?
There is literally no downside to not tipping them. I will never see them again.
The only leverage servants have is that they might fuck with your food "NEXT TIME" if you don't tip them.
If there won't be a next time, I don't tip the servants.
It's a good idea to tip the servants at places you intend to visit more than once. If they are the kinds of people who ended up working as a servant to begin with, they are absolutely the kind of people who will fuck with your food.
I don't mind tipping when the service was fast, they were pleasant to deal with and other factors like that. When it's a younger person I know that it's just a temporary job for them and it's not painful to leave a little something extra to make their job that much less awful.
I have NEVER tipped a waiter. They are literally just doing their job. I don't get tipped for showing up to the office and getting shit done. Why should it be any different? Come to think of it, I did tip a waiter once when he called my wife from my phone to tell me I'd forgotten it at the restaurant. Good on him for being honest and actually remembering our names. Other than that, nobody deserves a tip.
>>767658115 Berners Lee created HTTP and the first HTTP server, that is all he created. All he did was patch existing technology that was being used in to his HTTP protocal.ARPANET was already developing similar tech but Lee published his and they decided to take it and roll with it TCP/IP is an AMERICAN invention(Vint Cerf & Bob Kahn) DNS is an AMERICAN invention(ARPANET) Without these Lee's work would be for nothing
>>767657455 This is incorrect. I make 3.50 an hour and have argued with you before. It is not illegal because I legit on my paycheck make 20-25 bucks a week. I live on tips. They pay me this much so it can't possibly be illegal. After our last argument I asked my manager how they are able to pay us so little. They responded with 'we register it as paying you minimum wage because after tips, you make about that much'. BUT WE ONLY MAKE THAT MUCH BECAUSE OF TIPS. I can show you my paystub to prove exactly this. I hate that you always tell people that we get paid minimum wage when we don't.
>>767654230 im not american and i dont really care about the issue, cause it is not one here in eu, cause here you tip or you dont, thats it.
My question is: being a waiter/tress is an entry level job, basicall everyone can do, doesnt require any knowledge or any experience, you can learn everything in one day. Why would you even want to make more than minimum wage? Why would you even have teh notion that you deserve more when you are doing the lowest of the low of jobs that should be and can easily be done with highschool/college kids in their free time. I mean you are doing something that requires absolutely nothing, you can do drugs, be lazy af for 30 years then one they you want to work you can become a waiter/ress the next day.
>>767658548 The owner is an asshole for paying his employee unlivable wages($2-3/hr), that is the only asshole in this conversation. If the bussiness owners cared about their staff , they would take care of them and make it profitable for them, but they dont, they onyl care about their bottom line and fuck everythign else they can legally bea scumbag about.
>>767658302 Hello mr. sql admin, I’m a private contractor for a I.T company. Meaning I’m the guy who keeps your servers running and backed up. You know for when you “Fuck up”. I’m also a server at night for extra cash. Just keep that in mind next time you want to get all judgy about people’s “Life Choices”.
A guy tells you: "Hey, I have a job for you. I'm going to pay you less than everyone else in the country makes. The only way you will be able to survive is if you are nice enough to the people you are serving, then maybe they will give you some extra money...maybe...but they don't really have to.".
What a shitty fucking deal that is.
It's a comically bad career decision if you look at it for what it is.
>>767658637 maybe do a job an autist 10 y old with one hand and one leg cant do immediately after you are fired? It blows my mind that you DEMAND more than minimum wage with literally the lowest of the low of the jobs available in the world.
>>767654230 i work as a server to pay my tuition and it's pretty shitty most nights when rush hour hits.
Everyone is pissed off cause they waited 15 minutes to sit down, we're always short 1 or 2 people on staff so we can't get food out quick enough, especially when you've got 10 other servers firing tables at the same time.
Not to mention that no one understands that your fucking food has to cook lmao,
or that you have at least 5 fucking tables all wanting their shit at the same time. And assholes who demand something they didn't order and act like I'm some dumbass.
>>767657017 You do realize that is not how it works at all? A lot of states allow capitalists to get around minimum wage if they claim their employees earn tips... I guarantee you they are not paying 10%/hr in those states... It would go up?? Bahahaha
>>767658937 I never said I demanded anything. I literally only said how much money I make. I hate my job and have been looking every chance I get for a new job but nowhere ever calls back. Nowhere local is hiring right now
>>767658437 So when Lakesha and her 15 1 year olds comes up with $3000 in wic for formula, and yet even though she has been going here for 10 years she still gets the wrong forumula? Or when you get to her food stamps for some reason she STILL dosent know what food counts for wic even though there are fucking LAMENATED STICKERS NEXT TO THE FOOD THAT IS ELIGIBLE so you have to go back and shop for her and hope you get the right one she wants or she throws a fit and you have to go get it again despite asking her directly which kind she wanted? Thats easy? I get about 100 of those a week, they fuck up my items/hr and i get shit with the store manager because they dont understand i have to spend half an hour on one fucking customer. How about 60yr old Agnes? She has over 10 items but goes to your express lane and has 30 coupons, half of which have expired, but "IM THE CUSTOEMR I AM ALWAYS RIGHT YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT TO ME"
Yeah scanning items and packing your shit up is easy, but customers are not fucking easy, and saying you've worked as a cashier is total bullshit or you would have gotten these customers. Fuck your shit faggot

>>767658979 Rent, insurance, upkeep, maintence etc They can manage to pay their staff a livable wage and not rely on customers feeling like they should pay extra for their food, becuase the owner is a scumbag and dosent pay a livable wage by default
>>767659312 I mean why stop at sql? So your basically a glorified accountant that learned to “Code”. It’s barely a step above scripting. You do know the guys that work with the data you “sort” probably laugh at you. You know, the guys who work with the O.O.L’s. Youre trade is cute for lack of a better term.
>>767656836 they never pay attention to this, because they make way over it, they just bitch about the guy not tipping, not the cuck who is tipping %40 and makes more than up for the few who don't tip.
>>767658986 >tfw income tax and social security contributions devour 65% of your income >"Saw a doctor 3 times last year - paid nothing, it was 100% free!" We call that winning, Kraut-style. Hey, good job winning those World Wars, too.
>>767656693 we're not talking about the job itself being inherently poor, we're talking about your capacity to make it all the more shit or, alternately, if you were a normally functioning human being who ever left the house, your capacity to, though a minuscule effort, make the waiter's life that much better.
Then again, this is 4chan and generally speaking you don't have to tip your mother for bringing you your tendies, so this whole thread is basically a moot point.
>>767659821 Your owner has set forth a standard at which you must comply too, or be fired. He has obligations to the frachise he contracted out, if you dont meet his standards, you're gone. I wont hesitate to bring in the health department and have your resturant shut down if you fuck with my food in the slightest. I will get you downgraded to a 'B' easily and no one will ever eat there again, you will also be criminially liable for fucking with my food. Do you want to risk 100K in fines and fast jail time because you had shitty service and got a $2 tip? You arent untouchable
>>767660003 even if the bs you're spouting were true... i guess i'll just keep enjoying my higher standard of living over here despite paying high taxes. oh and the nigh absence of violence almost everywhere in the country... and not having to pay off student loans... and not being afraid to ever get sick cuz it might ruin me and my family forever... and not having to pay tips... or not having to starve to death / be homeless ever cuz even ppl with no jobs at all enjoy a higher standard of living than those in the US with 3 shitty jobs and the shit ton of other benefits i'm able to enjoy for not living in a shithole country
