$10/hr would be fine for a fresh 1st year waitstaff.$1.00 raise per year up to $15 not including performance reviews. If they are outstanding waitresses i could easily see them being paid $20/hr as senior staff.
Cashiers make $7-8/hr first year, they get $0.25/yr raises maybe $0.50 extra a year after peformance review and yet there are way more cashiers then there are waitstaff, and they do a harder job.

Just going to remind everyone that although restaurants are allowed to pay their wait staff less under the assumption they will be tipped in the us, if they don't receive enough tips to make up to their base rate or at least minimum wage the employer has to make up the rest.
In the UK servers are paid what they agree with the employer and then make tips on top of that, which is how a tip is supposed to work. If someone does their job above expectations than you tip them so they are ultimately paid more, paying their wages for the employer is not tipping.
I worked in a car part shop and I had clean up old oily car parts that the customers bring in, work out what it is, find a replacement for them, make sure it fits and then ring up their orders. It could take anywhere from 5 mins to 2 hours, sometimes would have to travel to different stores for them. Once had a Russian dude in the shop for like 4 hours because it was hard to commicate and he needed something really specific that I never heard of before, guess how much I made?
£9 an hour, my normal hourly rate because that was my job.
I always helped people above and beyond what was in my job description (I was a marketing guy) but never got a tip, we weren't even a garage so helping them fit the parts was never my job but I did it anyway beacsue if I can help, I will.

There is a resturant called Fuddruckers.
When you walk in there are 2-3 cashiers depending on how busy it is, you give them your order, they give you as cup,you go get your drink and then seat your self, the cook makes your food and then calls out your number when it is done. You get your food and condiments and refill your drink as needed.
