why do people complain about not being able to pay off their student loans? if you get a loan for 40k, then get a 60k job with your degree you can pay it back in less than a year
>>
20k a year for rent food and other shit?
>>
You gotta point there B
>>
> implying you can live a comfortable life on just 20K a year

But yea I agree, if you work and grind during the university period and get experience while getting the degree, should be easy to get a job and put 10-20K a year towards the debt, within 2-4 years the debt (which is manageable) will be gone.

The people who say this are usually art students (lul) or people who can't control their spending
>>
>>767494182
>never paid taxes, rent or food.
>>
>>767494272
that still leaves you with 40k, still pay it off in a year
>>767494300
yeah
>>767494336
ok but you're not supposed to live comfortably until you pay off your debt, you can live very comfortably on 30k, giving you just a year and a half to pay it all off

if you're an art graduate you can get an art job
>>
>>767494182
Because people get degrees in the history of jamaican underwater basket weaving and wonder why they can't get jobs.
>>
>>767494182
No, because you have to live on that money and move out of cheap housing with roommates to start life as an adult, the whole point of getting the degree. You pay it off over several years along with mortgage and car payment.
>>
>>767494182
Interest rates too.

Honestly people are stupid thinking they can take out a Sally May loan then turn around and tell Uncle Same fuck off, by bankrupting said loan.
Fed Student Loans are not bankrupt-able. So people fuck up their credit not knowing
Then it goes into collection so that 40k loan turns in 80k with lie 28-32% APR Annual Percentage Rate (interest).
80,000*.28=22400
22k a year in interest alone.

Just live with your parents for a year. Why do Americans hate their families?
>>
>>767494497
> if you're an art graduate you can get an art job
> art job

lel

Regardless I agree it's a small investment in the big picture. Just saying not everyone can put 40K away easily, 20K might just get you by on groceries, rent and transportation in some places
>>
>>767494596
If you aren't impacting the principle either you are fucked, because then you are paying interest on your interest.

People fail to realize is that Uncle Sam will take out everything from your social security, and other federal aid
>>
>>767494596
>have crippling student loan
>take out mortgage
>use line of credit opened for mortgage to pay off student loan
>go bankrupt on mortgage
Am I a genius? Did I solve the student loan crisis?

But that is not the student loan crisis, would you like me to explain?
I'm this guy
>>767494915
>>767494596
>>
>>767495073
Sure
>>
>>
>>767494460
if you make 60k, rent and food will only be 30k and taxes 10, leaving you with 20k to pay it all off in 2 years
>>767494525
there is no jamaican underwater basket weaving degrees, there's history, which has a lot of jobs
>>767494573
so then the only reason you wouldn't pay off your debt is because you don't want to? because you don't want to live with a roommate or in cheap housing for 2 years?

that sounds pretty retarded if you ask me
>>767494596
why wouldn't you be able to take out a loan and repay it?

even if that 40k loan turns into 60k if you live with your parents you can pay it off in a year and a half

and why take out a mortgage or car payment if you already have debt? just pay it off in a year or 2 before
>>767494694
why doesn't a degree get you a job in your field? you have education and qualification in that field, which means you get the job
>>767494738
yes, if you are an art graduate you get an art job, and that art job pays you money, which you use to pay off your debt
>>
>>767495280
Student loan crisis starts at the price colleges (unis) charge. They raise tuition rates willy nilly every year or so. The Fed Gov't FAFSA will subsidize (give you more money) these tuition increases.
Who does this fuck? The people who are what we call "middle-class." People who have assets and good careers who save every penny for their children to go to school, because FAFSA says you're not poor enough to be eligible for aid, even though they totally disregard circumstances of individuals (death, medical care, etc. [These events can cripple a families whole financial wealth]).
FASFA just looks at income.
So once you're dirt poor you can get aid. Otherwise you're fucked and taking loans out for the same education.
>>
>>767495658
Not less than a year moron.

>Congrats on learning to shift around debt.
Why not, it's how the rich get rich after all.
>>
>>767495731
>They raise tuition rates willy nilly every year or so
Could that be because of declining state support?
>assets and good careers
Good. They deserve to be fucked in the ass until they bleed for thinking they're better than the poor.
>>
>>767494596
Government, so benevolent
>>
>>767495658
You can repay it, but it takes a lot of time and money, and with interest being the way it is, it takes a lot of time.
Point being it really shouldn't be like that. I don't believe for a free education, but I believe that it shouldn't be s expensive as it is and as a tool to buffer out rich and poor.
>>
>>767495658
>why doesn't a degree get you a job in your field?
Because not all jobs are open, and most "entry level" jobs require 2 years experience and a reference from the popep
>>
>>767495757
That was an actual compliment so you sound dumb for mistaking tone.

Decline of state support lol, how? When they charge foreign students 3-4x the tuition rate and foreign students make up roughly half the students in uni. No they got enough money.

And wrong, whats wrong with working hard and trying to transfer wealth to your future generations

>Why not, it's how the rich get rich after all
>>
>>767495739
why not less than a year? can you exPlain what you mean?

if you take out a loan you get a degree, if you get a degree you get a high paying job, with that high paying job you pay off the loan you got with your degree

if your loan is 40k and you make 60k you can pay it off in less than a year if you live with your parents, 2 years or so if you live with 30k and pay taxes (10-14k)
>>767495940
why does it take a lot of time? if you make 60k, loan is 40k, and just live with your parents you pay it off in less than a year
>>767496175
can you explain why not all jobs are open? some data?

which entry level jobs require 2 years experience and a reference if they're entry level? any data on that?
>>
>>767496279
You're disregarding the "time value of money" Interest rates and inflation to the cost of living.
One thing you are totally right on is live with your parents and build wealth there then leave the nest when you have some current assets (cash).
>>
>>767496279
Not everyone can live with their parents, that was another point I left out of here
>>767496492
>>
>>767496279
If you make 60k a year it isn’t possible to pay off a 40k loan in a one year period. Your initial statement is invalid and people doing well tend to spend within their means. Nobody making 60k a year really worries about student loans outside of crazy cost of living places. The people you are poking at are the poor and that’s just pathetic.
>>
>>767496749
Very smart anon I just tried to see how far they can troll their views, I'm bored lol
>>
The issue is autists go to school out of state/go to private schools so they end up taking out a 40k loan PER SEMESTER.

Their debt goes into the hundred thousands, can sometimes be almost half a million.

And yes I said autists for a reason. If you're going to school out of state or going to a private University without a scholarship or whatever you're fucking retarded and should go jump off a building.

what time value of money interest rates and inflation to cost of living? everything scales in an economy

most jobs are less than 20k, if you get a job for 60k and live with 30k, 10k for taxes, only takes 2 years, if you live with your parents like i said, less than a year
>>767496562
if you don't live with your parents then it just takes like 2 more years
>>767496749
why is it invalid can you explain further other than just claiming it's invalid? you haven't actually said anything, you do realize that right?

and yes that's right because once you get your education you get your job an you pay off your debt which is what the education is for
>>767496835
if you go to an expensive private school then you get a job that matches up to that level since you have a private level education which is better than any other public education, simple
>>
>>767495658
You haven't paid off your student loans have you? You have no idea what it's going to be like.
>>
>>767494272
As a graduate student, trust me: you can live of 20k a year
>>
>>767496279
>can you explain why not all jobs are open? some data?

Because there are certain amount of positions companies are willing to pay for and that number is lower than the number of people getting degrees for those purposes.

Why does this need to be explained to you?

Scientific method, if the hypothesis is wrong, it’s wrong and you write a better one. You can’t do what OP says without some serious constraints that make the argument invalid. You can’t pay off a 40k loan in less than one year making 60k a year. And if you could and had half a brain you wouldn’t.

To be fair millennials were sold the boomer idea that a degree is an “insurance policy” and a gauranteed good job. It’s an outdated notion that will soon correct itself. My grandmother and parents told me the same thing. Right now there’s massive degree inflation. Schools need to stop pushing college on every average bear student.

I got lucky and make ~ 70-80000 as a gas appliance tech.
>>
>>767499098
yes, google it and show me what you're talking about and explain why it shows you can't pay off student loans, because you haven't actually said anything
>>767499239
yes you live with your parents, you only get taxed between 10-$13,000 if you make 60,000, leaving you with 45-50,000, 5-10,000 more than the loan

if you don't live with your parents, you pay 30k for living, 10k in taxes, giving you 2 years to pay off your debt
>>767499595
yes because you need a degree to get a professional job, simple
>>
>>767494182
>What are taxes?
Well there goes a significant portion of that 60k
>What is interest?
Durrrr
>What are fixed costs
Rent, car payment, gas, water, electricity, food, clothing (for this high paying job that likely has a business casual dress code
>What are variable costs?
Medical expenses, unforseen accidents such as a car crash, family emergency

It is not so simple. Rent should be approximately 20% of your gross income alone. If it isn't, you're likely going to be farther from your 60k job, which means more money and time spent on commute. Not to mention the fact that not everyone immediately lands a 60k job at graduation. All in all you seem to have very little life experience, which tells me you probably haven't graduated highschool, much less college. I doubt you've even been responsible for your own finances yet.

There's a difference between subsidized and non-subsidized loans.
