The Sun is more like a nuclear power plant than a volcano. It's nuclear reactions of Hydrogen and Helium under pressure and head that turns them into plasma and radiates photos and a whole other bunch of stuff.
Moonlight is the Sun's reflection.
Day and Night only depends on which side of Earth is exposed to the sun.
