Last Scotland v England game was a 2-2 draw at Hampden in the last WC qualifying campaign. We were 2-1 up with 5 mins to go before Stuart Armstrong had a brainfart and gifted them an equaliser. The reality is that no system is perfect. There are a lot of people out there just waiting to be butthurt over something, and govts have to be seen to be doing something about everything these days. This is the mass-media, instant news world that we live in today. The pace that technology has progressed over the last 20 years is frightening and I think govts, whilst they are scrambling about a bit at the moment to keep up, will find a balance eventually.

It's just reported more these days and within an hour of something happening, you've got a hundred media outlets and 'social commenters' having their say. Then people start tweeting and re-tweeting it and the fact that it's getting so much traction becomes a 'news story' in itself.
I wasn't aware of the instagram case. That does seem a little fucked up at first glance, but I'd have to read up on the specifics before coming to a conclusion.
As for the future, who really knows? I'm pretty sure if it became a real problem, in the UK at least, there'd be some kind of civil unrest. It's not like we don't have a history of calling out government bullshit, and I'm hopeful in the long run that that would continue.
