I want to build a low budget gaming PC that can run Windows 7 (I have old software that only works with W7 so I'm not gonna install W10 till at least W7 extended support ends).
I already bought a GTX 1050 and I was thinking of getting 8GB of RAM and an old CPU that can run W7 (Ryzen, Intel 7th & 8th gen CPUs don't work with W7).
The best CPUs I can afford are the FX-8350 and the i3-6100.
Which should I get? I read that Intel 6th gen CPUs work with W7, but some people say they still can't install it because of some USB driver issues. And the FX-8350 does work with W7, but cheap AM3+ motherboards don't have drivers for W10 so in 2 years I may have problems when I switch.

ryzen 3 1200 would be my pick, the cpu's you mentioned are using older sockets that may not be supported for much longer, so you're better off with an AM4 for a future compatibility (if you'll be looking to upgrade your cpu)

but in all seriousness, the machine I'm shit posting from right now was free, and needed a very inexpensive riser/power card. It uses about 400W at max, and has dual redundant PSUs, dual CPUs, a lot of memory capacity, a lot of storage capacity, dedicated RAID and RAID config storage on a separate card that is backed up off the systemboard in case that fails, has more PCIe x16 sluts.
I think the max RAM is like 48GB per channel (288GB total of cheap ECC).
Could be all yours for the cost of a new riser card for the PSUs.
