Do you have a 10GbE switch or just nic to nic?
Looking for a good 10GbE switch, 24 port, rackmount; UNMANAGED, dumb switch

A recommended switch is a Netgear xs708e. Has 8 ports and costs about 8 bills

and pathetic performance compared to a basic PC, much less my servers.

just continually pay for a service instead of actually owing the software forever, okay

too bad it's managed and only 8 ports :(

Why are managed switches bad?

Well you could buy 3 of them for 24 ports.
Also keep in mind these things run hot so fans are noisy

>Why are managed switches bad?
I've owned many managed switches, from 100mb to 10gb and they've all had performance issues. Granted it could be me but with the amount of switches I've tried, from various manufactures and classes (small business to enterprise) I'm inclined to believe it's not me. They all hit a hard wall performance wise and no amount of tuning on my part could remedy that.

>Also keep in mind these things run hot so fans are noisy
My rack is pretty loud when full tilt, noise of not a major concern.

No pictures on my phone, but if the thread is still around, I might take some for y'all..

The rack in the living room is loaded with AV gear. In before "why when you can roku and a sound bar?" something equally stupid.

The one in the back is rather empty and full of boxes, but it does have a dual Xeon server machine running my torrents, FTP and network storage. Soon to also run a cloud server so I can keep the family's phones backed up locally, and can also keep tabs on the pictures my kid is taking, even the ones he deletes before I can see them

In my experience, it will not performance wise.
See picture, left is unmanaged 24 port GbE switch, small business class; right is enterprise class 52 port switch, 48x GbE and 4x 10GbE.
The only difference in these screenshots is the switch, everything else stayed the same.

>why does everything else about the switch changing too point to in being managed?
In my experience with 20+ different managed switches, some from the same manufactures as the dumb switches I've had no issues with, they've all suffered from performance issues, some aspects they would be much better performance wise than their dumb counterparts but overall the performance was sub-par.

Honestly, iscsi over Ethernet is terrible since it layers the scsi protocol over Ethernet to emulate a fake hard drive. Use cifs or nfs instead, which are purpose built to work with Ethernet. Also, multipathing helps.
>>
>>767406083
>not too much command line for me, it gives me the button lol
I'm quite content in a shell or cmd window, I write code all day long. Windows is just more polished than linux, it might be a turd but it's a polished turd, unlike linux IMHO. I believe linux could be much better if it wasn't so fragmented, too many half-assed finished flavors...

Only if you had an HBA. Either way, you don't have to use shares as boot disks. That could remain iscsi independently so whether or not you can boot from them seems irrelevant.
