You can trust shotas with guns as long as they're educated on how to use them and supervised, my uncle took me hunting when I was 6 and I killed a deer. Don't even know what kind of rifle it was, but he guided me through it every step of the way. I was so nervous about hitting it in a non lethal spot because I don't know deer anatomy and it suffering so I wanted to go for a head shot, but he told me exactly where I should try to hit it. Also "pull the trigger" is wrong, you squeeze it, makes a big difference.

I don't own any either, but I do like to shoot at ranges, I actually hold a record at a range near me. Something I still don't get is a lot of people I know say that the first time they fired a gun was scary for them, but the first time I fired one was when I killed that deer, and it didn't scare me at all. But as for my range record that no one has broken, yet, I used a 22 cal rifle at 50 yards for 5 targets, the bullseye being worth 10, and taking 1 away for each ring off, and I got a 49, meaning I hit dead center 4 times out of 5 and only just a centimeter off on the 5th

I've never been good with shotguns, I'm great with a rifle, but I've never once hit a clay pigeon with a shotgun, I don't know why I suck so bad with shotguns. A 12 gauge shouldn't have hurt you much though tbh, I've fired tons of guns, my uncle is a vet and has licenses to have all sorts of guns that are very illegal unless you pay a lot of money for licenses, he made, with his own hands, a 2 gauge shotgun, that dislocated my shoulder when I shot it, and he also owns an m249, it's unbelievably loud, you have to wear ear plugs when you use it, when he let me shoot it we used it to cut a tree down.
