The American Constitution is an outdated piece of crap that brain-dead Yanks cling onto in the face of everything that is sensible or logical. As for being an example of freedom - well, freedom for who? It sure as hell didn't provide freedom or the right to vote for the majority of people in the US (i.e. women, non-whites, etc.).

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive. You can't seriously say that that time or what a militia was 200 years ago has any bearing on what they look like now.

Yes, tanks that are lubriciously expensive and outdated and likely not in service. Tanks that wouldn't do shit up against the M1
>>752237403
They had cannons and old repeating gatling gun like weapons and yes citizens owned them including warships that the government would rent from the individual, the fact that we have the inherent right is why they can't stop us from buying tanks or cannons or machine guns as long as we have the money and can pass the background checks.
There should be no compromise with our rights, the right to bear arms is an inherent constitutional right not a privilege like driving, it's not up for a vote.

TO BE CLEAR. I'm not exactly saying it should be abolished. I'm saying we should have smarter laws, better background checks, mental health screenings.

That's just me following the logic of "we need guns to protect ourselves from the government".
That's horse-shit when handing out nukes is the only way to truly be "protected". That which will never happen, and that which never should.
When you get responses like "it's not up for a vote", in a country that loves to brag about freedom and democracy, how can you take that side seriously
>>752239320
That's not the responsibility of the government, we don't live in a communist country it's the parents responsibility to teach their children how to safely handle firearms.

It's been reported that close to 100 of injured were due to the chaos and trampling.
However, I agree, un-warranted killing (murder) should be illegal
>>752239785
But it's not, the possibility of getting it amended is in all practicality impossible. So with it being a constitutional right and more importantly as the founding fathers called it an inherent right. The End
>>752239716
With how stupid people are, I see a problem with that. The right to own a machine made for killing humans shouldn't be a right at all, but a privilege.
It's too bad the NRA loves to lobby millions to keep it out of the question.

well thats fair about the drones and how politics are stopping us from doing just that. however when it comes to a civil war there are many factors that would actually turn this into a very similar situation to Vietnam.
>no formal knowledge of enemies or friendlies >no formal uniforms for the rebels
>in an attempt to limit collateral dmg, would have to refrain from heavy firepower
>to limit civilian casualitys would have to refrain from heavy firepower
>morale loss and conflict of interest in military and homeland security would cause defectors and lack of motivation to perform given orders
i have a few more to list but the point is maybe during the initial rebelion there would be drones used marking them as terrorists but after that there would more than likely be no drone use.
>>752240756

>>752240983
>to limit civilian casualitys would have to refrain from heavy firepower
We haven't followed that in the wars following 9/11 so I see no reason why we would in the future.
We had no fucking problem crushing ISIS and they very nearly had their own country under their control. millions of soldiers and plenty of weapons
>>752241230
So you agree? It's ludicrous to even assume they would try to assault their own citizens in mass? Citizens that are so accustomed to a democracy they feel there are certain things that aren't even up to a vote?

Oh really? Isn't that the very definition of an authoritative society? If it were so respected a right, you'd think you'd win the vote in a landslide. You'd think there wouldn't be so many people asking for change. I mean, if it is the will of the people, they should be able to shape the government as we please.

what is to stop them from driving a pickup truck in to a whole bunch of kids? or something bigger? worked in Paris and it would work on kids.
>>752252996
yes, but a pickup truck wasn't designed exclusively for murdering humans. We also have extensive laws ensuring someone is capable of driving said truck. but would gladly sell a dozen guns to an actual retard
>>752252996
a pickup truck isn't capable of firing tank ammunition or bullets from the 30th floor of a casino at 90RPM
This might sound like gun nut talking points...but I have the right to have an APC drive that bitch wherever permissible, fuck I'd drive it as a daily driver except for fuel economy lol.I have the right to own a semi automatic rifle, heck several and pistols of the same mechanical design principles. I have the right to bare arms against a tyrannical opponent such as OP and his faggotry and the Communists trying to usurp our constitutional rights. I will remove YOU from this mortal coil heathen!

That's because driving isn't a right, and no, not a retard. Question 11f.
>Question 11.f. Adjudicated as a Mental Defective:
A determination by a court,
board, commission, or other lawful authority that a person, as a result of marked
subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease: (1) is
a danger to himself or to others; or (2) lacks the mental capacity to contract or
manage his own affairs. This term shall include: (1) a finding of insanity by a court
in a criminal case; and (2) those persons found incompetent to stand trial or found not
guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility.

This, GUNS are not the issue everyone should respect the Constitution and what it stands for, and the only gun laws that should exist are those that punish criminals that use guns against other not everyone who abides by the law.
>>752254461
So? how does that make my point null? We have hand cannons as a right? Are you fucking stupid. As i've already said. Just because a nation of 4.4% of the global population likes a 300 year old piece of parchment, doesn't make it a right.
Calling it infallible is ridiculous, and holding it below the standard of driving standards is even more ridiculous. You're only hurting your argument by affirming my point further.
>>752254910
so we should never change it? Tell every woman that the 19th amendment shouldn't have been added.

Yes, I must be. But even a stupid person knows that a question mark goes at the end of a question, rhetorical or not.
>As i've already said. Just because a nation of 4.4% of the global population likes a 300 year old piece of parchment, doesn't make it a right.
Actually, it does. If you don't like it, add amendments or leave the country. I hear Mexico outlaws guns.
>Calling it infallible is ridiculous, and holding it below the standard of driving standards is even more ridiculous. You're only hurting your argument by affirming my point further.
No, just stating facts. As currently written, driving is not a right while gun ownership is a right. Listen, if you're anti-gun, fine by me. I, nor anybody else can force you to own a gun. However, it is my right to do so. Your FEELS do not trump my RIGHT

Good one. I'm drunk on 4chan, i've every reason not to write well.
>No, just stating facts. As currently written, driving is not a right while gun ownership is a right
Sure. And if it's subject to change or regulation, which it is, then it's not a right. It's an opinion.
> Listen, if you're anti-gun, fine by me. I, nor anybody else can force you to own a gun. However, it is my right to do so. Your FEELS do not trump my RIGHT
This is the soundest argument i've gotten in this thread.

This mentality ignores the inherent RESPONSIBILITY that comes with owning a firearm.
I'm all for everyone's RIGHT to own a gun, but apparently I'm the only one who expects gun owners to be RESPONSIBLE for the weapons they own.
If you want a .50 cal fully automatic tommygun - go for it. But if that weapon ends up missing, then you should be fined and go to jail. And if that gun is used in a crime and it wasn't reported missing, then you should serve life in prison without parole.
That's fair. Own your guns. Secure your guns. No excuses.

Not at all friendo. I was the one up-tread that asked why they don't go after NICS Denials. Why we don't prosecute obvious Straw(nigger) purchases? Why countless gun charge cases are dropped every year as part of pleas?
I own several guns. Even though I have no kids or even roomates, my guns (and ammo) are locked in a hidden cabinet. Additionally, I have pics and serial numbers, and offsite backups. If anything goes missing, it will be reported to the local police RIGHT AWAY. (Unless I lose everything all at once in some strange fishing accident)

Exactly. It isn't, and has no business being thought of as a right. Well, unless you face imminent invasion from a foreign power that wishes to rule over you. So, basically the right to be a soldier in the army. Which is already a right for most

The 2nd Amendment is there to protect all the others
Anybody that thinks ordinary citizens with conventional weapons can't stand up to tyranny hasn't been paying attention to Iraq and ESPECIALLY Afghanistan. These are sheep fucking goat herders with not much in the way of weaponry, but still managed to kill quite a few and retreat into their hidey holes. All it would really take is to first spark a war with another world power, then start resisting from the inside once the nation is tied up with a large scale war. Continuing to maintain ties with the enemy nation and receiving Intel, weapons, and supplies from them would work well, given that supply lines could be established. That's pretty much how the American Revolution was won (Britain was at war with France).

I said "Chances are" in relation to the intent of the poster, not of the quote. I said that because i cant say for certain the intent of EVERY poster, but chances are, that is what the poster intends to do
As far as the quotes go, if you really believe that philosophical and political statements only hold true in their specific context, and that these quotes arent meant to be principles applied in many situations, i cant help you
Also way to use the exact fallacy i mentioned

It's not freedom to speak, first of all. It's freedom of speech, petition, assembly, press, and religion. 2nd amendment doesn't mean shit if you cannot assemble, petition, disseminate information, and speak earnestly on the topics that are important and worth dying/killing for, should it come to that.
