Its too late in the game but have you ever tried "topping" your plants? Basically you cut off the top leaves right about where the fan leafs meet (when its growing upward and not buds yet), this forces the plant to create two main stalks instead of one and thus doubling your bud yields.
>>
>>752108024
Why does this leaf grow another leaf in the center ? is this normal for this plant (new york diesel auto) the other plants growing normal. (sorry for bad english fags)

i figured as much np. a little word of advice add a little clip on ventilator or a couple of pc fans to your box once they enter the flowering stage . the increased airflow will reduce risk of mold and pest infestation and increase the growth rate as well as increase the toughness of the stems wich prevents heavy buds from snapping off or drooping down .

>I don't use anything store bought, no nutrients and I use my own soil mix

You say that like it's a good thing. You're only hurting yourself by not using all available resources to your benefit which explains why your weed looks like shit.
>>
>>752106480 blend Banana Peels, Coffee Grinds and Eggshells to make a substrate that you put on the soil of the plant. then water it so get all the nutrients from the substrate down to the roots of the plant

It would rewally depend on the material but typically Mylar is at least 10-15% more reflective than basic white plastic. There is something called orca film (not sure if it's available in europe) and it's white but even more reflective than Mylar along with having much better light scattgering properties. It feels like a very thick paper.

relevant:

For a long time it was thought that a shiny silver or Mylar material would reflect better because the plastic sheeting that was previously used in the industry was cheap poly or PVC that off gassed chemicals into the plants and it just so happened to be white plastic sheeting. So overall, plastic sheeting was given a bad reputation early on. However over the years polyethylene sheeting has grown in popularity because it’s typically manufactured with virgin resins, so there’s no off-gassing and it has additives to extend its life and durability. Grow room plastic sheeting made of polyethylene is less expensive, easy to install, easy to clean, and insulates heat. Mylar and other shiny materials are still good reflective sheeting, but if you want the best light reflection white is the preferred and most recommended

I've seen differing statistics reported over the years. Many times, I see that mylar is best, then flat white not far behind. What I consistently see reported is that direct light is MUCH more intense than reflected light, even if using the "best" reflective surface.
>>
>>752113591
You might need to consider that your wrong and there are people here who run large scale grows and know far more about this business than you. Honestly the fact that you would recommend using a pc fan for anything is an instant flag to disregard your opinions.

A proper acoustic inline fan is a lot more quiet than a shitty computer fan. You're not going to efficiently cool down a large grow tent with hundreds of watts worth of lighting by using something made for tiny computer cases. The computer fans aren't built with pressure in mind, they're not meant to pull air through carbon filters.
>>
>>752113702

>>
>>752113895
True that direct light is more intense than reflected light. Honestly if you really want to understand how light works on a much more fundamental level you need to study the inverse square relationship between light and distance. Once you know how that works lighting will stop being a mystery and snake oil marketing will have no effect on you.
>>
>>752113591
I was growing some autos in a tent in my basement and learned early on constant airflow is just as important as light. A pc fan just isnt gonna cycle the air at a fast enough rate.
>>

>>752113943
He uses LED's, that's never more than 150watts, a single pc fan at 6 volt is absolutely enough to cool it and much more silent than the inline fan if it's no total shit pc fan
They also cool PCs with far more power usage
Also
>samefag
>>752114245
You seem to be a different poster
I have a adjustable slit as air intake at the bottom and the fan is on the top, I can only say the pc fan does a good job
As I said I had an inline fan before and the pc fan does cycle enough air for my dimensions
Pc fans have a really good airflow when you look into it, the form of the fan blades is far better developed than in inline fans
>>
>>752114080
Quantity of airflow is just one aspect. There are different types of inline fans.

Mixed flow fans - efficient and great for straight duct lines without many curves. Their cfm scales well with their increase in size. Typically the most expensive.

Centrifugal fans - these are great for pushing air through ducting twist and turns. Basically they provide better static pressure than mixed flow fans. If you need to poush through a bunch of lights and a lot of duct these are for you. Their cfm doesn't scale with their size very well. After 8" there is a big drop in cfm gains as the fan gets larger. They are cheaper than mixed flow fans

Squirrel cage - brute force fan. Very rarely used anymorew as they are loud and inefficient.

Booster inline fans - these are weak cfm fans used on extended lines of ducting to assist already flowing air down the length of the ductwork. Imagine the fans you see while driving on the ceiling of a tunnel.
>>
>>752114636
Anon, you need considerable airflow, that will force the plant to develop a strong stem that can carry later on more nutrients to the leaves first then to the flowers.
Aircycling is not enough, you need to imitate wind for couple hours a day.

You know you can easily adjust an inline fan as well? Better to have a large fan running on low power than a tiny computer fan that struggles.

>>752114799
Thanks i was curious,i have a old pc and its fan is imitating a jetfighter and i can feel the air move at my feet,i would have thought it would be enough in a tent to imitate wind.Maybe newer fans create less wind?

You need to understand that carbon filters have recommended cfm ratings for pproper function. Judging by the size of his filter he needs at least 150cfm. No pc fan is going to move 150cfm nor would it have the power to draw air through the filters carbon bed.

You're a moron.

I've used Scythe Ultra Kazes (133,60CFM = 228 m3/h) and even they struggled with actual carbon filters.

There's no way you could filter smells with a computer fan running at 5 volts, besides that wouldn't create nearly enough air movement and the humidity in the grow area would rise to ridiculous heights. Good quality weed isn't grown in 80% rh.
>>
>>752115417
don't wet trim, hang whole plant upside down 10 days to 2 weeks and try to get your VPD to 60% humidity and 60F with some ventilation (not fans blowing on it) and you'll have a much better harvest. After that there is no challenge.

Plants dont need winds to change direction, anon. It doesnt matter, the stem strengthens up just fine with wind from the same direction too.Its not like the wind will change direction from a fan in a 1.5x1.5m place.
Having a dedicated cycling fan would be good if you wanted to cover a whole room not just a tent.

Never wet trim. Just don't do it.

60F is ideal for terp preservation, and 60% is pretty much the highest humidity with some ventilation at 60F that wont cause rot, so if you temp goes higher you can adjust accordingly, if you want to go a couple points lower for safety go ahead. most people with VPD controlled drying rooms just dry in the aforementioned conditions in a dark area for 2 weeks.

100w is a very small grow, even with the highest efficiency LEDs like Quantum Boards. I guess you might be able to filter a grow that small with computer fans. Most people don't grow in that small of a scale. You probably should've said you're a micro grower in the first post.

This. For me my current grow of 9 LEC's and 3 600w HPS is the smallest grow I've ever had.

how do you flower plants with 100 watts? there is no penetration

i don't get why people do this when you can do 630 CMH and 750 Gavita, or is your ceiling too low for Gavita?

In a micro grow like his those things are irrelevant. If yielded was a concern he wouldn't be doing micro.

it's easily doable with micro growing. 100w of LEDs can grow 80 grams no problem, it's enough for personal use.

But even in a micro grow I'd use an acoustic inline fan and some acoustic ducting, more quiet than a computer fan.
>>
>>752119155
it's not even yield anything below 300 - 400 watts in HID will also be lacking quality to one degree or another.

630w CMH isn't as good as two 315w CMHs. LECs are just another name for the 315w CMHs.
>>
>>752119159
i can't imagine anything less than 225 - 250 watts in LED producing optimal quality either, hell actually I'm not even sure I believe what I'm saying about LED I think a watt is a watt, maybe quantum boards have a little advantage with gpw compared to traditional models but time will tell.
>>
>>752119352
i realize that. actually i disagree. i think the double ended lights are more efficient as far as GPW and also cost, but to each his own

630 cmh is kind of a waste really. I've done par measurements and 315w cmh at 18"-24" above canopy is putting out equivalent light output to a 1000w DE like a a gavita at 3 feet above canopy. It covers a smaller are of course but within that are the par output is close to equal. 630 cmh with two bulbs in one socket puts out so much par at 18"-24" that you actually have to pull them farther away from the canopy. The problem with this is your till get the light degradation of a 315w bulb

Tl:Dr 630w cmh has diminishing returns over a single 315w cmh do to light intensity.

Also the 600w are in a different room than the LEC's. 750w habits was an option for me but I decided on the LEC instead as I've been seeing first hand the results they can produce. Also the lower amp draw, longer bulb life as well as more dispersed heat spread suits me.
>>
>>752119717
i have no idea what you're talking about player people are running these with the philips 3100k bulbs and are pulling 2 units a light
>>
>>752119572
>i think the double ended lights are more efficient as far as GPW

Actually the cmh bulbs are watt for watt every bit as efficient at PAR output as a double ended HID. I would have never gone with them otherwise. I have the benefit of being in the hydro equip many industry and I get to play with every piece of equipment you could dream of.

I'm not saying they aren't. I personally would rather take the same wattage and cover a larger area. To each his own. There really is no right or wrong answer. CMH definitely has a bright future (no pun intended)
>>
>>752119513
LED's make 10 times more light for the watt than typical lighting, typicall lighting produces far more warmth/ infrared light that's worthless and even a problem for growing
100 watt led makes my growroom much brighter than the brightest summer day

You're going to have me for saying this but as someone who works in the industry I have to inform you that magazines like maximum yield are no more than still advertising rags. Take everything you read with a grain of salt because this magazines will plrint anything as long as they get paid. There is literally zero integrity within the hydroponic equipment business. Every nutrient company rep I have ever met was more than willing to give me thousands of dollars worth of nudes if I will talk up their product or pen them a testimonial.

Having said that I've done the measurements myself as well as seen other less biased sources online do the measurements and cmh and DE HID are very much on the same level of par/watt.
>>
>>752120359
I trried an LED and sold it as soon as the grow was over, it is not up to par with HID yet unless you're willing to drain your wallet. maybe the quantum boards are an exception, but i don't know, i'd never waste my time with one again. it is supplementary lighting at best currently.

>>
>>752120700
Yes, for large scale grows the DE HID will be king for the foreseeable future. Yield per light varies greatly depending where in the country you are. West coast grows yield far more than mid West grows which I chalk up to the west coast having a much better genetics pool as well as an extra 10 years of legal growing experience. The mid west and east coast tend to get the genetic scraps and are consistently hitting 2/light with an rdwc.

Jungle Boys hit 3.25 - 3.75 a light with their 750 Gavitas, and lately they are investing in the 630 CMH.

a 4x4 and some MH/HPS is all you need really. Also weed advice on the web is usually horrible, go get a proper grow book and study the shit out of it. You should be able to tell by the retards posting here a lot of people like to grow weed but not a lot of people can actually grow weed.

I really dont care about the jungle boys and i dont get why anyone else does either. People treat them with god like status but how do yiu know anything they say is true? Again having been in the in the industry for the better part of 10 years and i see how lousy the industry is with paid shills. I dont believe anyone when they have a vested interest in promoting things. You cant believe anything at face value. If i cant see it and verify it with my own two eyes i dont believe it. Keep in mind that the jungle boys run a high end paid consulting business so it is way in their interest to promote themselves as amazing growers.

>>
>>752122091
I have no idea who gour talking about. I dont follow marijuana industry personalities. Plenty of people pull weight everywhere in the country but not everyone is pimping out their name on merchandise at every opportunity. They have created themselves a brand and they will do everything they can to promote that brand. That makes them a very unreliable and biased source of information.
>>
>>752122280
their brand? you're missing on a lot of things.

their grow style is transparent, you can mimic it yourself if you want.

do you think it's BS that they pull those numbers from SOG in RDWC, grow almost all tops, at an even canopy? i don't, because people in soil are pulling numbers not too far off.

Im not saying thise yields cant be oulled or even that theyre uncommon on tge west coast. Im simplu saying that as a comlany and brand their information is always suspect because they have a brand. That brand needs to make them money. Its like taking samsungs word that their phone is the best phone. Of course you wouldnt take them seriously because its in samsungs best interest to tell everyone they're the best.

Do any of you guys extract?

I want to extract at home now with Ethanol since it's now legal to do so in California as of recently.

Can I get away with spreading the slab super thin before I purge it? Or do I need a rotovap?

I would guess you can chill your stuff in liquid nitrogen too. Butane and ISO are still not allowed or anything super explosive.
>>
>>752123836
The fact they grow commercially and consistently test clean cannot said for 99% of commercial growers in California, most people are spraying Avid, Eagle 20, Forbid, etc.
>>
>>752124046
I wont argue with you there so long as their testing is legitimate. Again im not saying it isnt but if they adverrise who they test through then there is the possibility of quid pro quo. You give us clean tests and we advertise your business to a huge audiance of your potential customers. Not saying thats what theyre doing but if they advertise who they test with it is possible.
>>
>>752123960
imo dont use ethanol except for something like reclaim, you will get very little terpene content using ethanol. I would either make a rosin press out of a hand clamp and a hair straightener or maybe make ice hash with trim or something. Solventless is the way to go imo especially if you don't have something like a nice closed loop butane system which is the next best thing to proper a rosin press imo but a no go for obvious reasons.

Also ethanol is technically about as volatile as Isopropyl. Dont use ispropyl either though because it never fully purges even at temps that would purge out THC. There is a reason you never see it on the market.
>>
The JB also "now" offer consultation services for which don't come cheap. But is an insanely smart buisness move they'll give u just enough info to be 90% successful like them but never 100% it will allow them to dictate what and how to grow "good weed" ... Consultation services/ designer seeds/ and extract labs seem to be a good market to be homing in on just my thoughts
>>
>>752124450
As of yet all the major labs people have tested their product through goes clean. They are going for a license so they will have to test clean regardless. I can say because I've dabbed their stuff it does not seem like they are making up for it by spraying Azamax or cinnamon oil on buds or anything stupid like that, I think they just use the regalia and grandevo products with predators and fight anything they need to early on.
>>
>>752125035
If their is inedendant testng then that satisfies my scepticism.
>>
>>752124551
this isn't true people are making ethanol extracts with rotovaps that you can hardly tell the difference from a single solvent extract.
>>
>>752124558
their oil is fantastic. i grow but love buying some of their fire sauce / live resin / some nug runs when they got em on occasion. never notice any diarrhea headache weed when i pick up from them ever.

experimental dwc from last last year.
>>
>>752125605
what are you even arguing? Clearly I understand ethanol is a solvent, all I'm saying is the terpene content compared to other solvent that results from it is negligible and makes it not a very great solvent for extraction. I've personally never even seen an ethanol based extract in a rec store.
>>
>>752126156
Canopy looks great.
>>
Holy shit the dumbassery in this thread.
>>
>>752126474
Why do you think the terpene content is negligible? It's not, when you extract it, it's all there, it's the golden resin you're used to on the first cold wash especially.

The question is how you purge afterwards. If you stick it in an oven in a thick slab as I was discussing earlier, yes, you would have to purge it so hot the terps would evaporate. However if you spread a slab ultra thin, you don't have to run temps very hot. It's even easier in a rotovap because you can use minimal temps and have the "bubbles" pop upon rotation. I was trying to see if I can get away without it.

Dispensaries do it because it's easier with isobutane / propane mixture on a large scale on a controlled setting.

For someone at home, an ethanol extraction is a decent option if done right.
>>
>>752126474
>>752126775

and also if you don't care about terps it is awesome for a fast extraction for RSO on large amounts of material.
