Sure Urkel.

Why not just use Chromium? Lighter weight and none of the Google shit added in. The only real way to know why its slow is to profile it while it's running.
Are you using an SSD?
>>752059779
For pgo im trying to generate and use, all references i've found to it are outdated, and im really in the breeze.
LTO i'm trying without pgo currently as i cant get it pgo to work at all, also using lld to link.
I have ccache so its cut down to about an hour and a half.Without ccache it was about a 4 hour build time. Im also using old hardware though so
Why do all Chromebooks seem to suck?
>>752059805
No, Go has insanely high Garbage collection CPU usage. (It just doesn't pause for that long).
I write Go and Node occasionally. I think Go is more pleasant to use, though.

>For pgo im trying to generate and use, all references i've found to it are outdated, and im really in the breeze.
So, TBH, it won't help that much. The slow parts of the code are usually the JS, which is being JIT optimized anyway.
We have special internal PGO that just works, so I am only familiar with that. Haven't tried building anything open source. Have you tried asking on the support forums? They're usually pretty helpful.
>>752060038

Not really doing it for any sane reason. Trying to compile everything i can with clang and add any optimization i can do it, even if its placebo.

Yeah I know the feel. It feels good to know your are running the most optimized shit you can. Likely the real reason why its hard and doesn't work is because no one really does it. I don't think Google even does it for their prebuilt binaries.
How many hours do you put in a week? I hear they work you to the ground at Google, hence why they have so many perks to attract the young crowd.
How much do you make?
>>752060095
High CPU usage != slower.
Go is considerably faster than Node, but Node is comparable because of V8's JIT compilation.
I run Go code on MIPS-LE routers and NodeJS simply doesn't work well due to RAM and threading restrictions.
Golang's usage of coroutines helps a lot.
Your choices are high memory (NodeJS) or high CPU (Go) - but Go is still slightly faster than NodeJS in sheer computational power.
>>752060887
Yes definitely. They are super duper liberal. If you so much as mention anything about genders being different, you'll be shunned, even if mgmt doesn't find out. They want to be so accommodating, they put tampons in the mens bathroom.

Notable to mention that Golang's standard library is about 8MB uncompressed.
For comparison, V8 alone (NodeJS's js engine) is 32MB uncompressed.
Just for reference in terms of overhead RAM usage.

You are making self driving cars better at identifying their surroundings. Also makes image search smarter, but hardly anyone uses that.
The thing about NN is that its a big red herring. ISP already charge each other by where the traffic is going. The thing that everyone is talking about today is if they can also do the same thing to regular end users like you and me.
The idea that we should allow or disallow it is kinda silly; it's already happening and has been for decades.

One other thing: Larry Page originally refused to fund the search engine with ads. It was Susan Wojcicki that pushed ads hard. I think the leadership now just wants to make a mark rather than make money. Just what I have seen.

The conservative censorship is pretty well documented. External contractors are used to provide rating services for Google. These contractors go through search results and rate pages for the relevance, adjusting their ranking by hand in the Google database. They also listen to Google voice requests (I guess it's called Google Now? I don't know they keep changing the name). The contracting companies are commonly sent requests by Google under the table to rate common Conservative news sources as "fake news" and lower their search results.
This is well documented. There are several authentic leaked documents to this effect, as well. Also, I've talked to some of the raters personally myself.
>>752058521
How many of your colleagues own a Tesla?
How many of your colleagues have come from Amazon, Facebook, Uber, etc? Compare google to these places
>>752074854
Yes. Consider the following:
You need to optimize a program to use very little memory, even at the cost of increased CPU. What can you change in your program without breaking backwards compatibility? Is it safe to turn a hashmap into a linked list, or were people depending on the iteration order? Is it okay to move to an O(n) algorithm because the data is small or not? What would happen if the data got big?
What's faster, an immutable but shared object or a synchronized but mutable one? Can you cut down the amount of data validation you do to speed things up?
Most of those aren't so much about banging out code. They are about reasoning.

>This is well documented. There are several authentic leaked documents to this effect, as well. Also, I've talked to some of the raters personally myself.
If I were making the search rankings and handling voice queries, personally I would make the entire thing based on machine learning and skip paying people. Human beings are way too expensive to have. That would be millions of dollars spent on making a few hundred thousand in ad revenue. It wouldn't work.
Humans can't parse news as fast as it breaks. They can't rank things as fast as a computer can. They aren't objective (as you point out). They don't speak all the languages. They can't judge what's import from a 1000 news sources in half a second.
It's crazy to think that Google would spend money on expensive and inefficient humans to do any of that. If you were running the company, would you?

That's exactly what they're doing, though... Search for "google search raters". I also have some of their internal documents (instruction manuals), but I can't release them. It's far less innocuous than it sounds. They're molding their search results for political purposes.
I know you work there so you don't want to hate them, but that's just how it is. The mid-level people, and even lots of the top-level people, either don't care or are just normal people.
It's a small group of people at the top with power, who want more power. That's always how it starts. These people ruin it for the rest of us.

That never happens, and I would know, I regularly interview people. They keep data siloed. Usually, the only thing that has access to your data is the program itself. It's almost never the people actually work on the program.
For example if I tried to look someone up I would be immediately flagged for doing so, even if was for a project I was working on. You have to explain why you needed to access that data, or else you get kicked.
