If the planet was this hot 115 thousand years ago, when there were no man made forms of pollution to add to the problem, then surely we can't be held responsible for the warming of the planet now days.
>>
>>751995369
This whole problem is playing on the narcissistic tendencies of the public (especially the leftist snowflakes). The moon, Mars and even Jupiter and Saturn anre rising in temperature.

Either they admit to their colonization of these other worlds or they shove the argument up their colon.
>>
>>751995369
What humans are responsible for is the acceleration of rising temperatures, not just high temperatures.
Meaning that because of humans the temperature the earth would've climbed in 500~1000 years are being accomplished in far shorter time.
Then again, that might also means the next ice age is coming sooner.

Also, sage goes in all fields.
>>
>>751995609
But the rise in temperature among other bodies within our system is comparable to Earth's increase. It's just a big guess that people accept because the only figures they've ever seen are from our own planet.
>>
>>751995369
It's all about not informing of the time scale properly.
Climate change it's natural, it's just that- it needs millions of years to complete.
>>
the planet is supposed to change over time, but not this fast. at the current rate of change its possible that we alter the climate enough to kill ourselves.

To think that my investments in order to build a factory that produces your favorite tennis shoes is a form of violence is brainwashing. To recognize that a giant ball of fire in the sky is a bigger influence on the mahor bodies of the solar system and, thusly, our planet's climate than cow farts is just common sense and is supported by proper [read: not propagandised] science.

i posted the graph of the last 420000 years. it's natural now.

all the dinosaurs died out but they were not killed by guns, so it is fine to put this gun in my mouth and pull the trigger.

or in real terms, different times result in different results. The warm period then was caused by natural processes which we understand and can account for, the warming period now is entirely unnatural and man made emissions account for it.

also so what that the earth was steaming hell hole millions of years ago - that does not make it good for it to be like that with us alive on it...

vostok temperatures are from on single location - not global temperatures, and cannot be used alone - real scientists use multi location temperature charts and they do not support this simple, simplistic and deliberately misleading conclusion.

TLDNR - fuck off with your shill science.
>>

What sad is that you climate changes fucks keeping getting caught faking data and suppressing contrary findings. You can’t even keep your own fucking story straight: “It’s global warming...wait no it’s climate change....wait no...”
>>
>>752001373
>the earth was steaming hell hole millions of years ago - that does not make it good for it to be like that with us alive on it
Yes, it absolutely does; as then we'll no longer be alive. Extinction is what we deserve. We're too stupid & greedy to exist.

>i’m a neckbeard fuck with no life so the whole species sucks and should be eradicated

>>
>>751995998
do you notice a difference between the peaks on this graph? All previous hot spots rise steadily to reach a maximum (with a strange dip in the pre 400000 year peak) the current peak has not acted like that. it has averaged out at a lower peak temperature - well below the 0.0 line, and only after thousands of years has it suddenly spiked -

Given that these previous peaks are all associated with end of glacial periods that have subsequent CO2 rises and that this accelerates the climate warming, but that this peak is not associated with a end of glacial period event, and the CO2 rise is associated with man made emissions, perhaps this chart actually shows how the current temperature spike is NOT like previous ones, and entirely undermines your point...

science bro, learn to do it.
>>
>>751997758
except that it isn't supported by the science because the science clearly shows that the sun is not forcing the temperature rise.
>>
>>752001766
We'll happily eradicate ourselves & every other form of life to keep our economies from taking a dip. Too stupid to exist.
>>
>>751998378
no it won't - the increase in CO2 is we burned ALL the coal and oil would be very severe - raising temperatures by several degrees, possibly over ten degrees - a massive incease in energy in the atmosphere meaning huge storm systems - we could end up with year long planet wide hurricanes at worst estimate.

also the loss of CO2 from the atmosphere is slow it will take many centuries to come down again.

learn some basic science before talkig about this stuff, please.

Mind you if we add the methane from the permafrost melting and actually we are probably already totally fucked, but there is no point in being silly about this contrarian denial of the facts.

As I see it you need AT LEAST 10 stupid fucking morons to produce one vaguely forward and smart individual. You need an economic and technological advance to conquer space beyond this round blue ball.

To provide that advance you need a support structure for the smart and motivated; that also means living alongside said fuckheads and pretending to get along. The problem is that I'm one of the individuals looking forward, I work for an aerospace company and live/breathe the technological advance of humans everyday. I also have to drive to work daily on my fuel sipping motorbike.

The problem is that same structure that allows me to do that allows some stupid single mother with 5 half cast black kids in a massive SUV to run me the fuck down.

If I think about it too hard I'll probably explode, my family are all drug addict baby factories and I sit here like picrelated.jpg
>>

>>752002325
>Thinking that humans have the capacity to end all life on earth
I'm hoping it'll just be us; but the other life cursed to live under our dominion likely won't be that fortunate. We absolutely fucking do have the capacity, and it doesn't even have to be intentional. We still don't even fucking understand WHY our planet harbors life in a way no other planet we know of does, so thinking we can't possibly fuck it up, especially when that conveniently enables us to keep on with our bullshit, is fucking retardedly arrogant.
>>
>>751995369
Please read a book.
>>
>>752002176
the obvious effect is more luxuriant and faster growth.

sadly this will not be sufficient to absorb all the CO2 rapidly - which should be obvious even to a denier like you since it has not been able to do so up til now, and the excess that cannot be absorbed is rising each year. It will take centuries to be absorbed by plant life (which only temporarily traps carbon anyway - it is released when the plant rots, unless it is stored like coal or oil)

also, the increased growth is less nutritious - we have already seen a fall in nutritional content in many crops - we are facing a possibility that people will starve while eating more.

and the model with the hurricanes - as I said, very extreme, but it was in a paper I saw in Paris - a what happens if the worst really happens session which was absolutely fucking terrifying, even though the outcomes were rated as extremely unlikely.
>>
>>751995369
Jesus Christ you're a retard . Planets cool down as they age. I mean seriously, how do you function being this fucking stupid?

For those who question or deny climate change, please think of this;

Imagine, hypothetically, that climate change is actually real and is as bad as the scientists say. Imagine that the world collectively got together and did something about it - got the world to run on renewables, consume less energy etc etc. The world would be a better place overall.

Now imagine that climate change is actually nonsense, but the everyone believed it was real and improved the world to "fix" it anyway - we'd be better off for living standards and technological advancements. Even if climate change was a hoax we'd still be better off.

Now imagine climate change is real, but nobody believes it and the world does nothing to improve itself. The end result is we're all fucked and the world is irreparably damaged.

Which scenario would you rather live in, the one where we do something about it and live better lives? Or the one where everyone denies it. I'm saying even if it is bullshit, it's better to improve the world rather than sit on our arses fighting over if climate change is real or not.

Funnily enough you'll find SpaceX are cool but have a different focus to us. I talked to Bill Gerstenmaier not that long ago and how NASA operates especially around the SLS project and his thoughts were interesting. Basically as you become more established some of the ways of doing things become more entrenched, he's talked to a few startups and their fresh approaches are very endearing and clever. But established companies with company IP and internal resistance to change aren't able to change a design to suit as fast.

I'm also consistently amazed at the level of homebrew tech brought to the table sometimes too, we saved an extraordinary amount of money on a piece of manufacturing equipment because we built something in house for 400 times less. This is the side of things I'm involved in and am hoping in time that I can start my own business from it.

they got caught saying they would rather destroy their data than give it to lying twisting pseudo scientists paid by oil companies to make up lies.

I remember thirty years ago that the same bodies crying global warming today were claiming (with proof) that the next ice age was nigh, the difference is there is no funding, interest or tax dollars to be had.

The global warming scam has seen nations introduce dozens of tax increases and new taxes to pay for all of the woes that global warming has brought us, stealth taxes we willingly pay because we care about the Earth, but what is this money actually spent on?

Trillions of dollars worldwide and we have windfarms and solar farms to show for it?

I'm calling bullshit on all this.

I'm not totally close-minded, I think that if there were global warming on the scale described then a lot of people would be a lot more upset, what with the massive loss of life coming to Africa... wait, would anyone notice?
As for the rest of us, well, if this warming delayed the next ice age, wouldn't that be a good thing as far more people would die if that were to happen and we're due another one of those no matter what we do anytime now.

Retard.
A scientist who could PROVE climate change wasn’t real would be heralded as a genius.
So far, none have been able to PROVE anything in the face of universal consensus.

The climate is always changing. It's changed who knows how many times since the Earth's atmosphere was formed. Furthermore, there's no empirical proof that humans are causing the current climate change. If there was then it wouldn't be a debate, it'd be fact.

I am not a climate scientist - I was a physiologist. a long time ago. But I got into electronics (developed a little device, went into manufacturing, had fun, made money) retired a few years ago, but I knew people in the climate research area and got involved a little - was in the local university Climate research group, went to a few conferences. Saw Micheal Mann, and Alan Myles, and a few others. One of the most interesting guys I met was an environmental political philosopher, John Barry from Belfast. His stuff is worth reading. We have almost no effect on climate change. Climate change is the term being used now cause global warming didn't happen and they look like asses now. We are currently in a 15 year decline in global temps, despite ipcc using very few temp guages in hot parking lots and airports or under air conditioning units, and not even around the globe. This is real look it up.

So the real topic is man made co2. The hard science is that co2 is a very mild greenhouse gas and only consist of 3.5-4% of the atmospheric greenhouse gasses. 95% is water vapor, the number one biggest greenhouse gas. Co2 is good for the planet actually. It's mostly released in glacial ice melt and ocean temperature rise, then absorbed again during cooling and re-glaciation. Why blame co2? Because you can't tax the ocean...

Government spends 4 billion a year to pay scientists to manipulate data and charts to make it seem like we are the ones responsible. That money could of solved the problem if there actually was one. Please go out and do your own unbiased independent research about this instead of listening to political paid science and tv or Al Gore(not a scientist), and don't deny it either just to jump on a bandwagon. Do the actual research and you'll see how fake it is.
>>
Regarding a point earlier about how the terms "climate change" and "global warming" are used. Climate change is a more general category that includes among other things ocean acidification, decreasing number of species alive, changes in local ecosystems, global warming, changes in frequency of extreme weather events, changes in crop growth et c. This podcast by Stuff You Should Know I think explains it pretty well: https://www.stuffyoushouldknow.com/podcasts/global-warming.htm

The IPCC made all arguments I could make about climate change and probabilities regarding causes of said changes better than I would. So here's a link to the summary of IPCC's fifth report, from 2014 https://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report/ar5/syr/AR5_SYR_FINAL_SPM.pdf And the link to where you can find the full report. https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar5/syr/

Maybe you disagree or agree with the IPCC report. But it's probably more enlightening than any arguments that I or anyone else in this thread would come up with. Maybe there is a similar source that would bring up the best (ie built on empirical studies and logical reasoning) arguments for a very low or low probability of a) global warming happening at all, b) man-made causes being the main driving factors behind global warming, if it is happening. And I believe that in order for the arguments to be sound, there needs to be some kind of probability estimation, since nothing in life except like "I think therefore I am" or mathematical axioms, which we decide ourselves what they are, is 100% certain. Basically, if it requires empirical observation, there is always a degree of uncertainty. So how much of a probability of global warming being something human intervention can affect are we prepared to accept before we decide to do something? And even if global warming would be unrelated to human activity (which according to the IPCC is extremely unlikely), wouldn't it be worth dealing with other parts of climate change?

no you don't.

you think you remember that because bad reporting of the science at the time made a big fuss about the ideas of a few scientists who were struggling with the data. the consensus was never with them, the science was always extremely contested. it was the newspapers (who also confidently said thirty years ago that we would have the cure for all cancer by now because of the human genome project - something the HGP never claimed) who spammed that bullshit.

And you think you remember that because that is a widely spread contrarian talking point that has come out of the anti climate change rumor mill and spam campaign funded by the Heartland institute (ie the Koch Bros)and other criminal organisations.

the current consensus is based on that early data plus thirty years more, including thirty years more learning and understanding and modelling and argument at a cut throat pace and level

anyone who thinks for a moment that if a contrary theory arose that was well supported (and would get you and instant Nobel prize) that it would not be heard, not be widely discussed and argued about, is just deluded about how those guys work.

Death to Putin And Russia.png

Why Russians favor Global Warming:

The Russian government has convinced it's citizens that global warming is a positive development for their country because they live at such high latitudes. They are banking on the idea that the Earth's temperature can be raised to the point where Russian experiences a more temperate climate year-round. It's a shrewd maneuver to turn their frozen tundras into farm land, while turning the current bread baskets of the world into deserts.

What they don't understand is that long before the northern Russian soils become farmable, the greenhouse will have tipped into a run-away positive feedback loop. There is NOTHING stopping the Earth from being exactly like Venus, with surface temperatures that reach 800 degrees Celsius.

Life on Earth will be extinguished because of run-away Russian ambition. For the good of the planet Vladimir Putin must be killed and the Russian people exterminated, before it is to late for the rest of us.

If someone says that he knows the Earth's temperature down to one tenth of a degree Celsius, and furthermore claims not merely to know this for the present day but also for centuries and even millennia in the past, and furthermore claims to be able to predict it for centuries into the future, that's pretty impressive and I'm very curious about how the measurements were taken and how the predictive model works. The "climate scientists" get awfully quiet when you ask them those questions, though, and some of them even invoke baroque and bizarre conspiracy theories, accusing you of "shilling" for "Big Oil." ("'Shut up,' he explained.")

Likewise, all of this "global warming" that they claim to have measured is claimed to have arisen by the mechanism of human activity adding to the carbon dioxide levels of the air. We are told that it absorbs infrared radiation. But so does water vapor, in the same frequency bands, and vastly more efficiently, by orders of magnitude. Carbon dioxide concentrations in the Earth's atmosphere are measured in parts per million, water vapor in percentage points. So there are appropriate scientific terms for this kind of claim. One of them is "preposterous."

In my opinion, as someone who took some undergrad science courses at university level long before this began, it's rather simpler than that. You have a group of people calling themselves "climate scientists." Who is and who is not a "climate scientist" isn't clear.

Fair enough but you have a group of people calling themselves "climate scientists." Who is and who is not a "climate scientist" isn't clear. When real meteorologists like Anthony Watts dare to point out that the Emperor has no clothes, they're shouted down, shut out, and slandered, because they're "not real climate scientists," and accused of taking bribe money from "the oil companies" by people who live on multi-million-dollar grants that the National Science Foundation gives them to print phony studies in which they declare that we're all doomed unless we go back to the caves, right now.

If you don't understand how the data is collected then it's because you did not try hard enough to find out. You're only interested into holding onto your own self-affirmed beliefs. You didn't even try to prove yourself wrong.

Historical climate data can be extracted from many sources. The basic theory is to find an isolated system that shows correlation with temperatures along known climate data and extrapolating backwards. For example there are certain strata of ice or rock which have particular amounts of gases dissolved in them which correlates strongly with the temperature for that year. By digging deeper into the ground for older rocks and ice and measuring the gas content, you can produce a decent measure of the average temperature for a certain time period beyond our current direct measurements.

The "water vapor" thing is irrelevant. The amount of water vapor in the atmosphere remains constant. CO2 is going up, and it's going up at a pace suspiciously similar to the amount we are burning fuel that turns into CO2.

Hotter, colder....who cares?

If the climate changes rapidly enough we're gonna struggle to feed 8 billion people. That's the problem.

>Can humans survive in hotter or colder climates?
Yes, we have evidence of this in the past but we didn't have 8 billion people to feed.

You are making the mistake of thinking they care about anything but preserving their unrealistic mental models of how the world works. If there is an alternative theory BETTER at explaining climate change than man made interference, then it would be EASY to prove because it would be TRUE.
As of right now, all evidence points to man made climate change - almost as if THAT were the “true” explanation.

The ‘fact’ the climate is changing is not in dispute, the CAUSE is.

You pig fucking mongoloid

I'm open minded to man made global warming, climate change, whatever they call it today. But I'm always perplexed that people who adhere so vehemently can't answer basic questions.

No, the EVIDENCE points to man made climate change - not “we don’t know - let’s just blame people”.
The argument that it is caused by ANYTHING ELSE is what lacks any evidential support.

When the sun can heat the surface of the earth multiple degrees in minutes, mankind adding a single degree over a hundred years isn't going to do shit.
>>
>>752008353
You are so retarded you don’t think climatologists include the SUN in their climate model?
Where do you think the energy for the model system comes from?

The reason they don’t say the sun is responsible, is because the lack of evidence showing fluctuations in the suns output that would correlate with the recorded climate change.

You are fucking retarded if you think you’re smarter than THE ENTIRE GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF CLIMATOLOGISTS

No we are not. Co2 is our friend. Keeps the ice ages away. We are currently living in the most stable environment in thousands of years. Co2 is the weakest of all greenhouse gasses. It's good for the plants and trees to grow.

and yes... things that happen naturally, happen slowly, i dont see what the problem with that is, the coming warming period is right on time with the last 4 that have happened hundreds of thousands of years ago.

in turn we minaswell say, well all the other ice ages happened just like this, whats the big deal?
