The unprecedented regulatory power the Obama Administration imposed on the internet is smothering innovation, damaging the American economy and obstructing job creation. I urge the Federal Communications Commission to end the bureaucratic regulatory overreach of the internet known as Title II and restore the bipartisan light-touch regulatory consensus that enabled the internet to flourish for more than 20 years.

Trump is a fucking self-made billionaire. If anyone has the foresight to see business opportunities, it's him... and there's plenty of opportunity in a capitalist ISP sector free from big government regulation.

you don't seem to understand what regulation of the internet involves.

Net neutrality and classifying ISPs as common carriers prevents ISP from doing things like selling your browsing history to advertisers.

It has nothing to do with government surveillance or the NSA.

NSA will spy on you no matter what but at least we have a chance of preventing our internet habits from being traded freely for marketing purposes

Most areas don't have a choice in what isp they can have. It's usually choices of either comcast or at&t dsl so there's no competition. Government allows isp to have exclusive rights contract to areas so there's no competition for what isp you have access to. Without net neutralite you can bet your assistance companies like comcast would treat the internet like cable. Tiered pricing for access to certIan sites. Want youtube? That'll be an extra $5. Want netflix? That's an extra $10 to comcast on top of your regular netflix subscription fee. All other sites not in your tiered package would either be outright blocked or slowed down so bad it's not even worth trying to use those sites you don't pay extra for. Try and say a shit companies like comcast wouldn't love the chance to do that because what the fuck can you do about that? You only have access to 1 isp and can't switch to another. The only way we could remove net neutrality safely is if we got rid of these exclusive rights contracts these isp have and get REAL isp competition goin and that would have to be done first and long before we got rid of net neutrality.

Also Net Neutrality has fuck all with government spying on you. They gonna spy on you with or without net neutrality. Because again. Net neutrality has nothing to do with NSA spying on you. Net Neutrality makes makes it so you have equal acess to all websites. Makes it so access to some small new video streaming website is just as fast as your access to youtube. Makes it so acess to Gab I'd just ad fast as Twitter. You get the idea.

Regulation ensures competition. Without regulation it is possible for a single company to dominate the market and if you knew anything about economics you would realize that one company can't compete with it self.

NN makes sure that a single company can't dominate the market and therefore ensures competition

I know this is bait but... Anyone who is against net neutrality is either being payed by the ISPs or actually retarded. Ending net neutrality doesn't promote competition, it allows companies to more easily shut down small competitors who are offering a better/cheaper product. No net neutrality will allow the ISPs would be able to prevent consumers from accessing their competitors websites. This effect isnt even limited to competition among ISPs, any company could pay the ISPs to prevent consumers from accessing their competitors websites.
>>
>>751936704
The did the converse equivalent. They started throttling connection speeds to certain sites, which is even more jewwy and sheisty because it was done in secret to make you think the services you were paying for like netflix were shitty when it was your ISP intentionally fucking with something YOU PAID FOR.

Because they could offer more value-for-money products and services by not being excessively regulated, which will start a price war.

>do you think they are not allowed to lower their prizes as is?
There's no room to. Infrastructure costs money and people's use of that infrastructure grows exponentially as the internet ages.

>Maybe you would like your ISP to offer a youtube package and then a netflix package separately and charge you different rates for different traffic and maybe completely block services that compete with their own.
If you don't like a package, don't buy it. It's called capitalism. If many people don't buy a package, they would be forced to stop offering it since it doesn't make money.

The idea that regulations are bad is because they stifle competition, no? Monopolies operate on the premise of having no regulation, because they control the entire market. In this case, reducing regulation is also stifling competition because you're handing the controls over to a single entity.

It was happening though. It was jus getting started. Comcast and verizon. We're throttling Netflix and youtube. Those sites videos were loading slow. Paying for 100mb internet (which is more than enough for video streaming) and Netflix and youtube would take a long to load and forever to buffer. So yes faggot. It was happening and you can be sure had NN not stepped in, these ISPs would have started charging extra for access to fasterling video streaming to its customers. They were already trying to get Netflix to pay them money to make sure Netflix video reach computers more reliably.

Your argument is flawed. ISPs do not have competition. Most ISPs have exclusive rights to areas where their biggest competition is slow DSL. No competition, ISPs have no reason to lower prices. This is so wrong. A magazine costs money because they have to hire writers as well as actually print a physical document. ISPs do not generate any content (they don't need "writers"), they merely provide a means of allowing people to access content others have made and published. Nor do they have to physically "print" anything. They are strictly keepers of the cables. The cables are in the ground already, and they are not having any trouble staying afloat under net neutrality. They are still growing richer every single year, still laying cables, still hiring more and more people.
>>
>>751932893
Net neutrality is a decent concept is implementation is shit. It's basically a way for mega corps to control content and keep smaller companies from challenging them.

That's the thing about modelling. If the old technology and the new technology share the same causalities, then it makes sense to apply the old technology's model to the new one -- all the linkages are in place, you don't have to reinvent the wheel. But if the old technology only looks like it shares the same causalities, then the imposition of its model on the new one is most likely intended to give preferment and advantage to the special interests behind the fallacy.
We ought to create an annual award in honor of Ajit Pai, perhaps a gold-plated cow patty with his name attached.

This article supports neither position. Thier still is no good reason to repeal from what I've seen. Fortune just states that it's either the isp or the websites that will pay for the data. I prefer the isp to and this way we have laws that block prioritization, which will help prevent monopolies.

there's no reason to be against net neutrality unless you're an ISP, a paid shill, hostile foreign entity or a goddamn fucking idiot.

They can already charge you whatever the fuck they want.

An end to net neutrality means that companies like Netflix are going to have to pay more, not consumers. Will Netflix raise their prices? Possibly, but it will be bad for their business.
>>
>>751936641
NN helps competition.
Here's a scenario.
NN is repealed so now netflix subscription prices increase because they are charged for the traffic they generate. People cancel thier subscriptions and go back to cable as the ISP'S wanted all along. Now since netflix is less competitive the isp's are free to increase thier rates to match with the conpetition.
Repeal of NN is just a way to extract more cash from the consumers at the expense of the dot com companies. The isp's will never upgrade thier infrastructure when they can scam more money from consumers by giving money to Washington.
Former FCC chair published an article on brookings outlining how the repeal of net neutrality is in no shape or form beneficial to consumers.
>>
>>751941070
Consumers WILL pay more. Give it time and there will be tiered package pricing. They already do that shit over in Sweden. Wouldn't take long, just a few years.

An end to net neutrality does NOT mean that they can block access to websites unless you pay. It's merely a slow lane which ALREADY exists.
>>
>>751941070
Credit cards do this. Yeah different type of market, but the same principle here. principle being if they can double charge , they will. Credit card companies charge stores to use card swipe machine, and credit card companies also charge credit card users. Yes ISP will double charge. Charge sites like Netflix for fast lane to consumers, and charge consumers a fast lane to Netflix. You're really fucking naive if you think that wont happen. Greed is fucking human nature and ISP are sure as shit greedy.
>>
>>751941301
If they try that, then there is going to be a class action lawsuit. They won't get away with it. We need these kinds of precedents set and ending net neutrality actually gets a lot of gears turning. We'll have more rights by the time its all over with.

just. support. and. keep. NN. alive.
we don't have to speculate what they can or will do...just keep the fucking NN alive.
>>
>>751941689
Yes they will get away with it. Other companies (credit card companies biggest example) already get away with it, so why do you think ISPs wouldn't get away with it to?
>>
>>751941728
They're not going to block access to websites based on what tier you subscribe to. That's not what an end to net neutrality means. The "neutral" is referring to the prioritization of packets. Keyword: prioritization. The packets can't be blocked by your ISP unless they contain illegal content.

They would either outright block access to websites or slow access to the sites down so much its not even worth trying to use those sites. It wouldn't happen immediately after NN is repealed, but give it a few years and you will see it start happening.

49.99 tog et access to these sites. 69.99 to get access to these sites plus the 49.99 packes. This site costs and extra $5 to access. $10 to access to this site. Cable companies already do this ins ISP's in sweden already do this because they can. $20 for a 3 day pass with access to only certain sites.

Having a credit card isn't a basic human necessity. Our society is increasingly dependent on the Internet and many things can ONLY be done online now. If they block access to certain websites or charge more, there is going to be a lawsuit that will open the Internet up for once and for all. Obama's regulation is just a band-aid.

Here's what will actually happen:

Access to the Internet will finally become free. Just like how companies offered during dial-up days. Remember Net Zero? You will see a return to that. This will be the ad-driven Internet that you know today. You will get access to the ENTIRE Internet, but like dial-up, it will be useless for games and media (which is how it should be). Packets can not and will not be blocked whatsoever. This way people can register for classes, fill out paperwork for a loan, do their taxes, etc. which they need to be able to do for free since it's a basic human necessity at this point. You should be upset that you have to pay to do this ALREADY -- unless you go to the library, of course. But you don't complain because you pay your bill so you can get access to all the free things that the Internet currently has to offer like pirating games and movies, you nigger.

If you want Steam, Netflix, etc., then you have to pay. This is a good thing. Those services will improve and we'll see the beginning of truly high-speed Internet in this country. Google Fiber will see more demand. They will expand their infrastructure. There will be more competition for lower prices and better speeds.
