I thought hillary was also against net neutrality?
>>
>>751735041
what exactly is the arguement against net neutrality? unless you´re a already big company able to buy more bandwidth so you can make even more money, whats in it for the simple man?
>>

You got it backwards.

it's an obama regulation. trump even wants to kill the thanksgiving turkeys obama pardoned.

Good.
>>
>>751735214
No. Every person with a brain is for net neutrality, unless being a republican who sold his voice against free net and free speech.

And dont expect Trump to give a shit about net neutrality, he still supports Roy Moore, he may be raping children, but as long as he got that R infront of him, he is a great person in Trumpies eyes.

remember, she has a public opinion to help her win votes, and a private opinion which is the way she really feels. she's said this many times.
>>
>>751735351
a non-amerifag here. but are there any arguements out there against it? im realy curious, because i think net neutrality is a good thing, but im also intereseted in opposing opinions? are there reasonable facts, or is it just some alex jones like character saying "Net Neutrality supports inter-dimensional pedophiles and will turn everyone gay" ?
>>
By this time next year, without Net Neutrality, basically:

You'll pay for internet the way you pay for cable.

Want to use 4chan or other social type sites? You'll have to have that package. Want to use email and messaging services? You'll have to have to have that package. Streaming, youtube, video services? You'll need that package (and enough bandwidth).

That's basically it. Right now, the internet is "regulated" in such a way that if you pay for access to the internet, the ISP itself cannot pick and choose what parts of the internet to let you connect to.

Without Net Neutrality, that goes away.

The internet will be, basically, DLC. You pay extra to get certain parts.

Anyone trolling or being partisan about it because one side or another supports/is against it is a braindead loser.
>>
>>751735041

if you are against net neutrality then you support having to pay $50 extra per month just to get netflix

so think about that whydon'tya?
>>
>>751735640
"I would vote for net neutrality because..." Literally in the "source" you posted. Are you not able to actually read what you post?

>>751735351
You didn't even try to answer the fucking question.

What's the actual argument against net neutrality? It's absurd to argue that it's bad simply because someone you don't like, liked it at some point. That's idiotic as fuck.
>>
>>751735746
children cant give consent.
>>
>>751735864
but that is the actual argument against net neutrality.
>>
>>751735646
It prevents somebody from making more money, which is why he may or may not pay people to advocate against it. It is pretty entertaining to annoy people who get very emotional over it though
>>

Not enough to make me show emotion, but enough for me to call it out as trash.
>>
>>751735041
Whose propaganda is that? Net neutrality benefits everyone except for the largest, wealthiest corporations on the planet.

Do you want the internet to continue to become "pay per view"?

>>751735916
You're fucking retarded. I already know what the argument is, I'm trying to drag it out of you retards. It's not because "obama" ffs.

The argument against net neutraliry is simply that corporations should be free to control and monopolize whatever they please, which they want to do very badly, but has absolutely no benefit to the 99.5% of the people on the planet not owning those major coroprations. They want to control the internet because it's profitable.

It would honestly be like the US government letting Halliburton or some other big company BUY the US interstate system and charge people per mile.
>>
>>751736044
yea, except the kids were 14.
>>
>>751736041

but they'll be telling you exactly what to do: GIVE US A SHIT TON MORE MONEY TO ENJOY THE WEBSITES YOU USED TO ENJOY FOR ONE FLAT RATE
>>
>>751736041
Except that:

>we (taxpayers) created the internet - not ISPs
>we (taxpayers) paid for and built the infrastructure it runs on - not ISPs

The product doesn't belong to them. The internet itself is not their intellectual or created property - nor is it even provided over physical lines which they own.
>>
>>751736108
it is because of obama though. trump said he would undo everything obama did, he's following through.
>>
>>751735575
Now you know how it feels, man. To have people with an ideology you don't identify as pushing that ideology on you. Feels good, right? Makes you want to vote against them and have their freedoms taken away, doesn't it?

I remember before 2015 where i had to pay for site packages. Oh wait??
>>
>>751736108

exactly

common sense dictates that net neutrality is the only rational way to even have an internet

i am one of the most conservafags around, yet i support net neutrality precisely because it creates a level playing field upon which even the littlest competitor can compete - just plug into the web, set up your site, and go for it. without net neutrality, the only ecommerce site in the world will be amazon, the only video site in the world will be netflix, and the only search engine in the world will be google.

the world without net neutrality will be like stalin's russia, except instead of it being state-controlled media, it'll be the biggest corporations's-controlled media

Government projects at DARPA literally created the internet, and even your dumbass knows that already.

And you already know that the telecom lines that the internet runs on were built by the government, on the taxpayer dime

And bonus - we paid for hundreds of billions of dollars of upgrades to them - for the internet companies - and they pocketed half the cash.

>>751735041
Wrong, i'm on 4chan and for net neutrality. In short the only people who are against it are ISPs (because in this way they can trottle your 4chan traffic and charge you or 4chan extra for a fast connection. Same goes for any other website.) and idiots that don't understand what net neutrality even means and just repeat what fox news tells them.
>>
>>751736388
Oh no the poor tech companys. See Anon you fucked yourself now all together say it with me.

Goodbye Net Neutrality Yaaaaay
>>
>>751736414
It's on public land, and most of the telecommunications lines were originally paid for (and still currently maintained) by taxpayer funds. Huge upgrades were paid for by taxpayers as well (400 billion dollars worth) but telecom companies pocketed half the cash and did few of the upgrades.
>>
>>751736442
so why doesnt the government become the service provider if they paid for the lines?

Because this country is a quagmire of fucking morons who love le invisible hand of the free market and think that private companies running everything is great.

I think private companies are fine, but on essential things like communication that are all built on public land and with taxpayer money - the TAXPAYERS should decide how they're used. We SHOULD nationalise it, but our people are too fucking dumb.

What do you mean? if someone wants to be kooked up to the internet they pay a ISP on a regular basis.

if theyre not capable of providing and updating their service they should get kicked out by ISPs that can.

ISPs dont lose money since theyre only providing technical backbones and the allowance to use the internet. costs that should be covered by 20 Bucks paid by pretty much every fucking person in (but not only) the western world.

In the United States, net neutrality has been an issue of contention among network users and access providers since the 1990s. In February 2004 then Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell announced a set of non-discrimination principles, which he called the principles of "Network Freedom". In a speech at the Silicon Flatirons Symposium, Powell encouraged ISPs to offer users these four freedoms:[25]

Freedom to access content
Freedom to run applications
Freedom to attach devices
Freedom to obtain service plan information
During the FCC's hearing, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association urged the FCC to adopt the four criteria laid out in its 2005 Internet Policy Statement as the requisite openness. This made up a voluntary set of four net neutrality principles.[28] Implementation of the principles was not mandatory; that would require an FCC rule or federal law.[29] The modified principles were as follows:[30][31]

Consumers are entitled to access the lawful Internet content of their choice;
Consumers are entitled to run applications and services of their choice, subject to the needs of law enforcement;
Consumers are entitled to connect their choice of legal devices that do not harm the network; and
Consumers are entitled to competition among network providers, application and service providers, and content providers.
In 2007, Comcast, the largest cable company in the US, was found to be blocking or severely delaying BitTorrent uploads on their network using a technique which involved creating 'reset' packets (TCP RST) that appeared to come from the other party.[33] An August 2007 report noted that ISPs had been throttling BitTorrent traffic for almost two years, since 2005, but Comcast was completely blocking it in at least some cases.[34]

Although i support net neutrality, i'll give a counter point.

Regulations hamper innovation.
The more regulated an economy is, the less efficient it is.
net neutrality is a regulation that limits the services that can be provided.

Hypothetically, picture an ISP, lets say Comcast that provides 30gb, 60gb, unlimited internet plans for $30, $45, $60 respectively.

What if by removing the regulations, they could add a new plan
Free, but you can only access websites that comcast approve, like Disney, Hulu, fox tv, and basic emails. Youtube and wikipedia are disabled on the free plan.

And its free because Comcast get a small kickback from the above's ad revenue.
That's a innovative product, and a reason for repealing net neutrality.

There are probably other possibilities that exist that i haven't thought of, but works out along the line of a reduced functionality of a product for a reduced cost.

Free market economics.
The real concern is that the US has the most fucking bullshit ISP companies in the 1st world.
Its not a free market in that regard, because there is no competition, and many places its a monopoly. The large telecom companies don't even contest one another because they are happy providing an overpriced under performing service and don't want to rock the boat.

Without the safeguards of NN or open competition, its just another tool for the ISPs to price gouge consumers.

Disclaimer:
Its 4am and i'm going to sleep, so i'm not going to see any reply
I also don't live in the US, but in NZ. Your FCC isn't going to do shit for my countries internet one way or the other.

This is a US problem. And frankly, if any of your governments did its job and smashed the telecom companies so there was active competition, you wouldn't be worrying about this shit either.

So a summary reading of this thread reveals there are two camps.

PRO Net Neutrality proponents seem to have a thorough understanding of the issue, in a partisan-free assessment of what is beneficial to the people of the United States and its economy.

ANTI Net Neutrality proponents have no idea what net neutrality even is, let alone why it should or should not exist and are incapable or rational assessment beyond partisan politics.

I'd say any rational assessment clearly shows where the merit lies and what's immature nonsense.

That wouldn't happen. They would limit their normal service and provide an premium to make more money. Regulation of the market is nessesary because ISP companies are monopolies in some areas and constantly trying to maximaze their profit.

I don't think OP's picture is right, because 4chan will be one of the first things to go away if net neutrality goes away...

Or it will be bought out and repackaged to be more like reddit...except more heavily regulated, by the Warner Bros/AT&T merger...which since net neutarlity no longer exists, only people with Time Warner/AT&T service can look at 4chan.

Because without net neutrality, everything because monetized for ISP's like Verizon, and you can end up with a situation where if Verizon partners with Amazon, you can only view Amazon through that service. Sorry T-Mobile.

>>
>>751737551
As I implied.
The biggest problem you have isn't net neutrality, its how your communication companies have established monopolies and refuse to compete.

If your government was working in the best interests of your nation, they'd smash those companies and punish them any number of ways.

Our government did here in NZ, we had one telecom country in the whole of NZ that was once goverment owned, but was sold to the private sector with some limits imposed.
One being the max they could raise their prices would be a generious 4% a year. When under the goverment it was averagin about 1%

well 10 years of private sector ownership raising the price 4% year upon year, and it was clear how much price gouging was happening.

But what could anyone do.
They owned all the copper lines that connected all the homes.
A new telecom company would require a monumental investment laying down a second pair of lines and tearing up the roads and pavements to lay them.

It was utterly impractical.

Our government stepped in and split the telecom into two.
One which owned the cables, and another which provided the service. And the prices for using those lines were set by the government.
And instantly there was competition, to contest the monopoly now only required a rental agreement from the line company.

And well things have been great ever since.

If any of the bullshit happened where my services got limited unless i paid more, i'd just swap to another ISP provided. The cables aren't owned by any ISP, and anyone with a few thousand can start ISP of their own.

So what i've tried to say is this
Net Neturality isn't the biggest problem you have, its your ISPs are so shitty as is your lack of choices.
>>
>>751738104

Because the pro-net neutrality camp has made a very clear and compelling case, and all I here from the other side is literal ad hominem rubbish and baseless partisan politics.

so again, is there ANYONE here with a real argument against net neutrality? Seriously anyone?
>>
>>751735257
Basically the argument against net neutrality is that it will allow the ISPs to partition up internet for cheaper packages. So poor households or elderly people can be offered internet that will go to say... A thousand, five thousand, ten thousand (Idk) websites chosen by the isp at normal or faster than normal speed. Websites not under their package they will either be unable to reach or the speed will be much slower. Websites will then be able to buy preferential treatment to be on certain packages that the consumer will buy. If you want internet as it is now you will have to buy a higher end package (similar to getting cable with ESPN unlimited, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, The Movie Channel, NFL, ect) at a higher cost. It ends up being a money grab for the ISPs and a way to throttle websites for more money and to control information.
>>
>>751738409

Holy crap this.

Everyone here better start liking Tumblr because that might be the only thing available to you.

If Verizon or Spectrum consider 4chan to volitile, they may just block it completely, and you'll have to have some small time ISP that doesn't care like Optimum or something to view it,

>>751738642
It doesn't really benefit the whole United States at all. In a small part it will allow a small amount of lower income people a limited version of the internet. ISPs also claim it will allow them to spend more on improving their infrastructure... Which probably isn't true.

I wish they would keep net neutrality and then change internet service into a utility and not a private service.

yeah I don't see how this negates the need to repeal net neutrality, we live in a free market com--pays have been impeded long enough and should be free to move with accordance with our free market economy, right??

daily reminder:

Net Neutrality essentially means that the internet is treated as a utility, meaning that ISPs cant throttle or charge more money for access to certain sites/content.

There's nothing hypothetical about what ISPs will do when net neutrality is eliminated.

2005 - Madison River Communications was blocking VOIP services. The FCC put a stop to it.

2005 - Comcast was denying access to p2p services without notifying customers.

2007-2009 - AT&T was having Skype and other VOIPs blocked because they didn't like there was competition for their cellphones. 2011 - MetroPCS tried to block all streaming except youtube. (edit: they actually sued the FCC over this)

2011-2013, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon were blocking access to Google Wallet because it competed with their bullshit. This one happened literally months after the trio were busted collaborating with Google to block apps from the android marketplace

2012, Verizon was demanding google block tethering apps on android because it let owners avoid their $20 tethering fee. This was despite guaranteeing they wouldn't do that as part of a winning bid on an airwaves auction. (edit: they were fined $1.25million over this)

2012, AT&T - tried to block access to FaceTime unless customers paid more money.

2013, Verizon literally stated that the only thing stopping them from favoring some content providers over other providers were the net neutrality rules in place.

Why would 4chan be on a blacklist? I still don't see it. Going to 4chan or any other message board doesn't use enough bandwidth for ISPs to care. This is more an attack on P2P and file sharing.

>smaller sites like 4chan
C'mon, i know we like to pretend to be edgy underground leets, but 4chan is fucking huge. If anything Nip Moot is going to get offers for kickback/partner sponsorship if this gets repealed.

What the fuck are you talking about? There is no third side, The US is a two party system. Grow the fuck up. I'm saying it's irrelevant to say political bullshit around net neutrality, because it's bigger than that. It's not a partisan issue at all, and to make it that is foolish and extremely suspect.

What happened to the "I don't care as long as you have to suffer?" Kys

nobody cares about net neutrality you fucking nerd. why dont you go to a dungeons and dragons festival? I know that game doesnt require internet.

We could read the graphs just fine, but they provided no relevant information, and they certainly didn't mean what you acted like they meant.
